You no longer need to adjust your Character Level followed by Class Levels - adjusting class levels will automatically manage your character level.
For Milestone advancement (default), this simply changes your level. For XP advancement, you will be asked to confirm the new XP values.
Changing your XP value in the Manage XP screen will notify you near your Character Level that you have pending Class Levels to add or remove.
Great to see improvements in the XP management screen, however I am not seeing any prompt or indication that I need to level up once I change values in the Manage XP screen.
If I take one of the level 5 characters I have built and use the Manage XP screen to deduct 5500 XP the screen tells me that I will have 1000 XP and be level 3. Click OK and the character sheet is unaltered and there is nothing to indicate that I need to go to the builder. When I go to the builder it tells me I am still level 5 with no prompt that I have to manually reduce levels.
It is only when I go to the My Characters page that I see the character is level 3. If clicking Apply on the Manage XP screen does not automatically take you to the Class page of the builder then there needs to be a very visible prompt on the character sheet to remind you. In an earlier post I suggested that the builder icon could change to a level up (or level down) icon that goes to the Class page when clicked.
Items with bonuses to spell attack rolls (such as Wand of the War Mage) will now grant their bonuses properly.
I've mentioned this in a couple of places in this forum but any item that requires attunement does not grant its properties unless attuned. From experimentation this does not appear to be implemented in the builder.
Equipped but did not attune the Dwarven Thrower to a Dwarf Paladin and the +3 bonus was included in the attack and damage modifiers.
Equipped (not attuned) Wand of the War Mage +1 and the +1 adds to the spell attack modifier
Equipped (not attuned) Robes of the Archmagi to same WIzard character, the +2 bonus adds to the attack modifier but not the save DC. Attuning to the robes does not change this.
From experimenting with the homebrew item creation rules the modifiers tables has a column for requires attunement for each modifier but this cannot be set and does not appear to be referenced in the character sheet.
All of those updates were mentioned as being for the Character Builder. We do not have the Level Up or Level Down notification wired into the Character Sheet yet - it is only in the builder as indicated with the green or red arrows near the Character Level.
An entire pass to include those kinds of things for the sheet is incoming. I'm sure once that's done, the issues you're describing will go away.
We are also working on cleaning up some data for the attunement issues you've described. Those updates are incoming as well.
Decided to try and build up a character I already had to see how easy it was to make. I went with a Dragonborn Cleric at level 4. I do want to ask before I pose it as a problem, but are we limited on what backgrounds we can pick at the current moment? Will the Sword Coast stuff be available at any point in terms of spells and/or backgrounds? (If this has already been asked then forgive me). A fun thought, a Cleric with City Watch background.
Only bug or issue I had come across was during spell selection. The first time around when I was picking spells, it wouldn't allow me to pick spells of 2nd level or higher until I was in the character overview section of the character sheet. Aside from that, haven't noticed anything else. I await to see more updates on this and keep up the great work.
For the beta, only the rules and options provided in the D&D 5th edition SRD , D&D 5th edition Basic Rules, Elemental Evil Companion are available in Beyond. Once the full platform launches later this summer, the core rule books and others will be available for purchase, and the content within will be available for those that purchase, or have access through a DM's subscription.
I`m using an barbarian in my play RPG game. I`t would be awesome if we could activate and desactive special abilities that change status in character automatically . For example rage! What do you think?
I tried the search feature, it doesn't appear to be returning any results.
Robe of the Archmagi and Staff of the Magi don't appear to be adding to your spell save difficulty class correctly. They are correctly affecting my attack roll calculations, though.

Was there something specific that you were searching for that didn't come up? I just did a search on magi and the first entry was the Staff of the Magi.

Hi Athalstan,
search is working fine for me - can you give me an example of something you searched for, that didn't work?
Robe/Staff of the Archmagi bonuses not adding is a known issue, thank you.
I created a half-orc Druid. Was going into the gackgrounds and noticed there isn't an option for a few backgrounds from PH. Outlander and hermit I believe are both PH backgrounds? Had to choose less ideal background of folk hero and then I it appears to have the incorrect skill set to choose from?
(Edit) just saw these were not available yet in the backgrounds)
Also if we could have the abilities page page tell us what our class priorities are while we're on that tab would be helpful. I had to go to my fight club 5 app to look it up.

During the beta test of D&D Beyond, we'll only be including content that is freely available from Wizards of the Coast, including the D&D 5th edition SRD , D&D 5th edition Basic Rules, Elemental Evil Companion and potentially others. The beta will not include additional content from a Commercially Released Book, Module or Supplement.

I went and searched again on Magi, first result is the Staff of the Magi the 2nd result is this thread. searching on just of the brought zero results which isn't overly surprising. Magi Search

How do you crosslink like that, where you can just hover over the link and it shows item/monster/spell info?

Um, this might be the wrong place to post this but there isn't an option in the character creation for Druids to select circle of the moon.

Very excited to finally get to play with the character builder. It's pretty solid so far, here are the things I think maybe could use some improvement.
1. It'd be nice to have the racial description of appearance features and the page where you input those features put together. It's a little rough to be five pages past the racial description and now either trying to remember what it said or having to go back and forth for help in filling it out. Also, having the height/weight tables right there would be amazing.
2. Along the same lines, it would be nice when you click "Manage Equipment" to actually have the class/background starting equipment options displayed so you have references when making those selections, rather than having to back out of the manager to see those options again.
3. When working through your background it would be nice to actually be able to select the flaws, bonds, etc. rather than having to manually input them above.
4. Separate out combined backgrounds like criminal/spy, or make a sub-selection to help with differentiation between the two. There may be similarities, but these are not the same kind of people.
5. You've got a great list of gods in the PHB, a drop-down selection of them with an option for other if people don't want to choose one of those, would be great instead of manual entry.
My suggestions mostly boil down to a shared theme. To make this as usable as possible, especially for an eventual mobile release, some more work needs to be done to help make the builder more readily usable without also having to have a PHB in hand as you're going. It's a great start and I look forward to seeing your further efforts.
Okay, had stopped at looking at the manage equipment. There definitely needs to be a way to filter the list. When it says, for example, that a monk can start with a shortsword or any simple weapon, then it would be great when adding equipment to be able to filter for simple weapons to find what works best for my character. That seems like a much larger oversight than my previous comment. It doesn't filter between weapons, armor, or any of that, which can make for a much more difficult time creating a character without already having a book or stack thereof in your lap.
There are plenty of additional updates in progress as we prepare for launch, including the revamps to the Equipment and Spells interfaces, updates to Backgrounds and Personal Characteristics, some builder flow/ accessibility changes, adding a way to see your character's action economy easier, the Unarmed Strike/ Martial Arts rules, and more.
Hello everyone!
Hopefully they include some more smart selections based on race/class/background for new characters.

I haven't looked through all 63 pages (at the time of my posting this) to see if this has been reported already but selecting human variant only gives me the choice of 2 feats (grappler and the gnome magic one)
*edit* looked through some other pages and found it being reported, so sorry for the duplicate.
