So, forgive me if I've missed this earlier in the thread:
Once we purchase books we'll be able to add spells that aren't SRD to our homebrew, correct (not that we can't do that already in the text, but the hyper links)?
Once that is done, are they still publishable, or will published homebrew still be limited to SRD?
If they can be published, is there anything in place to keep such material contained to people who own the content used therein?
Just curious as to the inner workings and preparations that have been made.

That's an interesting scenario.
The short answer is, you'll be able to add tooltips for spells you have access to.
I see where you are heading though - you create a monster or item, that has a spell tooltipped in it. That spell is from SCAG, because you bought that book. You then publish the homebrew - what happens when people who do NOT own SCAG decide to use that homebrew?
I *think* what will happen is that they can access your public homebrew, but the tooltip will tell them they need to purchase SCAG (or just that spell) for the tooltip to work.

You can use the homebrew item creation to create mundane items if you desire. :)
Granted. It's somewhat unsatisfying to see the custom item in blue, though. It shouldn't be that hard to add a "mundane item" category to the drop-down. That was actually what I expected.
In the rarity drop down select "varies" - the item them shows in Black text (still classified as a 'magical' item, but at least the blue text doesn't show).
I'm not sure if how much of this is a bug, how much a limitation, and how much my not understanding properly but I ran into some issues creating a "Shillelagh Quarterstaff." (As a workaround for the effects of Shillelagh not showing up in the attacks section, I thought I'd make a magic item with the same properties as a quarterstaff with Shillelagh cast on it.)
I chose Quarterstaff as the base weapon. I entered two melee attack-bludgeoning modifers, a with Wisdom as the Primary Stat, and 1d8 and 1d10 die rolls. None of this shows up in the attack info when I added this to a character. The damage is still the old 1d6/1d8. [I have a screenshot of this section, but can't sort out how to upload it)
There is not a way to specify 1 handed and 2 handed damage.
It occurred to me as I worked on this report that there also doesn't seem to be a way to distinguish attack modifiers and damage modifiers (or damage replacements).
To do what I needed/wanted to do, I needed access to the data fields for the stats of the base weapon, to modify them, and this doesn't seem to be an option at this point.
I saw no way to specify that this item was limited to Druids.
Even if requires attunement is checked in the basic info section, in the modifiers section "Requires attunement" is listed as false and I can see no way to change that.
A few days ago, I was able to add the item to one of my characters. I decided to try adding it to another druid character to see if the results were different, but it no longer shows up as an equipment option. (I notice my homebrew spell isn't available to me at the moment either, although it was a few days ago as well.)
Will we be able to edit our Homebrew content once it has already been published and approved?
once homebrew has been published, you need to create a new version if you want to make changes.
We do not allow direct edits of published homebrew, as it could well be in use by other users, who would not appreciate changes to the homebrew happening without them realising.

This was pure user error: The second character had "allow homebrew" off.
Oh! I actually just thought of something. Stop me if this has already been suggested before.
Is there any possibility that the homebrew aspect of DnDB will be expanded to include the creation of monster TEMPLATES? By templates, I mean something you can apply to other creatures, such as half-dragons, dracoliches, shadow dragons or spore servants.
Could there be a system for leaving feedback on peoples' homebrew creations like questions or suggestions? I'd love to be able to leave and receive comments under some of the creations on here.

They're working on it.

So when our content is rejected for any reason we don't have a way of resubmitting the content with a comment. In my case it was rejected due to copyrighted image but it's my copyright not a third party. Also not sure how my other submission got through when I have that one hosted on the same site. Maybe I gave it a public use flag? Anyway I think the ability to resubmit with comment would be good. I don't have any idea how to resolve my specific issue. Oh that reminds me. I cannot remove the image without replacing it.
Hey DefiantMink - Your word that the image is yours is good enough. Go ahead and resubmit the homebrew. In the future the best way to get this kind of issue resolved is to PM a mod. :) Also, staff is aware of the issue with not being able to return to a default image.

I went ahead and pulled your creature from the rejected homebrew and approved it. Thanks for the heads up! As a rule, any deviant art we reject immediately since the website has its own copyright associated with hosted content.
So I really enjoy the homebrew content both in browsing other people's ideas and creating my own.
This might have been already asked, but what are the chances that exporting homebrew content from the site in some form will be possible? Such as my homebrew collection I might want to print to use in situations where (for whatever reason) technology wouldn't be accessible? Or simply because I might want to scribble on paper to get my ideas down before uploading a new version of a spell or something.
in terms of spells, I have see a rating suggested for homebrew content, but I was wondering if you guys could make something a bit more objective such as something that analyses the damage of the spell and shows you where your spell falls on a graph or something...Alternatively, what are the chances you will publish a public API that users can then use to query public data (available to registered users based on whatever filter criteria you want) and create their own useful widgets etc to determine where their homebrew content falls determined by certain criteria? For example, i want to know specifically if my homebrew spell is dealing too much damage, but I don't want to rely on public opinion? And objectively I could query through only the published content spells and get an average damage for my spell level and then use that to base if my homebrew spell is underpowered, or overpowered and if I need to reduce/increase it or add some other drawback to balance it out. And then I could compare it to simply homebrew spells and see what the homebrew content creators are thinking in general it should be and THEN i could even possibly see on average how many (if the data is available) how many people are actually using those homebrew spells and what the average damage of the heavily used homebrew content is....possibilities would be endless really. Maybe someone has mentioned this, but I would add my two cents and support for it.
Oh! I actually just thought of something. Stop me if this has already been suggested before.

Yes, this is something I was hoping for as well - I potentially have a bunch of NPC half dragon characters coming up in my campaign - being able to take an NPC template and just add the half-dragon to it (for example) would speed things up. I guess you could use this system as a way of ammending races of NPCs as well, e.g. The human bandit and adding an Orc 'template' to it.

Hi All,
My apologies for asking if this has already been answered, but How do I add a new cleric domain I have homebrewed to D&D Beyond.
