TL;DR: Although they are surprisingly nimble and fast, they are a true heavyweight boxer whose career started as a chaotic thug and low-level enforcer but as their skills matured so did they. They traded the chaos and evil of thug life for the lawfulness of legitimate enterprise not wanting his career destroyed by a prison sentence like his old crew. He still likes to pick fights or strongarm people when he can get away with it and he hopes the party he joins will promote the fights he picks the taverns turning them into spectacles for all to witness for he is the true heavyweight champion of Toril! He has a thick Bostonian accent and will invariably curse as well as say the most cringy stuff without realizing it due to lacking the part of his brain that filters conversations.
Backstory: Tharg grew up on the bad side of the city of Luskan the city of pirates where danger is lurking around every corner. As a child he joined a juvenile gang who roamed the allies and backstreets threatening various individuals with vandalism and violence. As a teenager his best friend and mentor was murdered in a gang war forever changing his personality. No longer did he want to be a wretched agent of chaos so easily made into a chump and then laid six feet under. Although he kept his ties to this old crew he got a job as a bouncer for a low level organized gang operated nightclub in the city of Waterdeep. His new boss found potential in him as a boxer after witnessing a single punch knockout of one of their hired professional boxers and immediately put him in the ring. Things seemed to be great for a time as this new crew had him challenge and defeat boxer after boxer raking in the coin until the government of Waterdeep started to catch on. Concerns over the validity of the matches was called into question by fans and gamblers as evidence of his employer's connected money laundering operations came to light. Thankfully Tharg Claggert was not implicated giving him the opportunity to continue fighting but this too fundamentally changed his personality as he knew he could fight. Maturing into a more lawful and good than his chaotic evil roots from the Luskan soil he is hoping to find new entourage to represent and promote him until he becomes the uncontested heavyweight champion of Faerun!
Appearance: The goliath before you is large and lean with thick bulging muscles wrapped around an iron frame. They are bald with no beard and white eyes but instead are decorated in an assortment of tattoos certifying their mastery over different unarmed fighting styles. They are clothed in simple travelers' clothes.
Personality: To me, a tavern brawl is a nice way to get to know a new city because I judge people by their actions, not their words and I bluntly say what other people are hinting at or hiding.
Ideal: Aspiration. I’m going to prove that I’m worthy of a better life.
Bond: I owe my survival to another urchin who taught me to live on the streets.
Flaw: I speak without really thinking through my words, invariably insulting others.
And with that I now have a level 1-20 templated character for each class in 2024 I can use for a one shot or for people just drop in to play a game without a character. For those interested here are links to the other builds.
Since my main is an Alchemist, I didn't build one for the Artificer. I cannot wait for the UA to complete but hope they change Experimental Elixir. I suppose having one nearly completely useless ability isn't terrible.
The Basic D&D Rules/Rules Cyclopedia had rules for unarmed combat. I don't think AD&D ever did. At best, 5e, I guess a boxer would take the Fighter's unarmed fighting style. Certainly not Monk.

I thought about that but needed a Monk and a Monk unlike a fighter is all about hand to hand. A fighter can be but isn't as focused.
