TL;DR: Trained to guide people through the most hostile regions of the Underdark this sentimental dwarf is always cautious and alert. Although he may be more trusting than others who would present themselves as a paragon of security his involvement with others tends to bolster his resolve to protect them. Undelhorn is extremely prideful, like most dwarves, but he backs it up by maintaining a detailed journal of every foe he defeats so that once he dies in battle saving someone else (this is how he would prefer to go) someone else can carry on his legacy of hunting and eradicating the most fearsome monsters in all the Realms. He speaks with a German accent, loves to organize team building and trust exercises, and obeys the law.
Backstory: Long ago a clan of mountain dwarves were driven deep underground by the encroachment of the Drow who were sent running beneath the surface of the world after losing a civil war with their cousins the Sun Elves. For centuries this clan of Dwarves and Drow fought until it fractured, and half the clan fled down into the depths of the Underdark. The other half restored a ruined fortress to serve as their mountain home closer to the surface away from the rich resources below them but safer from the Drow and more capable of trading with surface dwellers. Undelhorn born of the Longarm Clan was born into this fractured society and from an early age trained in warfare. He initially served as a caravan guard to a transport of supplies to and from their cousins deep in the Underdark past where even the Drow would settle. However, due to his capacity to track down roaming bands of Drow raiders in the Underdark he was quickly trained as a hunter of the monsters and beasts that roam the Realms. An expert in training of all things lethal to the Dwarves he keeps a journal of the weaknesses of everything he encountered so far he hopes to find an adventuring party who can put his skills to the test against all the worst foes out there.
Appearance: Before you is a stout mountain dwarf with pale white skin, steel eyes, and long gray hair with a trimmed beard. Despite their wide squat stature they are shredded with muscle which keeps their posture as sturdy as the rock from which they were hewn. Their attire is that of a traditional Dwarven mercenary. Rugged traveling clothes are heavily obscured under chainmail and spiked Dwarven armor. A cloak is rolled up over a backpack with a sack tied to it along with a large shield accompanied by a Battleaxe, Heavy Crossbow, War Pick, and Warhammer.
Personality: I always have a plan for what to do when things go wrong and I expect danger around every corner.
Ideal: Community. It is the duty of all civilized people to strengthen the bonds of community and the security of civilization. (Lawful)
Bond: Although I would sacrifice my life and my soul to protect the innocent. I keep my thoughts and discoveries about my various hunts in a journal which I prize almost dearly. My journal is my legacy but also value life equally so.
Flaw: Most people scream and run when they see a demon. I stop and take notes on its anatomy because I’d rather eat my armor than admit when I’m wrong about my prey.

Cool concept, love to see someone leaning into the more warrior side of Rangers.
Thank you! I have been making one new mono-class character a week using only Tasha's, Xanthar's, and the 2024 books until I finish all the classes ending with the character I actually play - an Alchemist. I mostly DM and I figured this way I'll have characters I know for new players to use at any level who drop in. Sort of table characters.
I decided when making this character it would be fun to play a bit of a switcheroo because I wanted to make both a Dwarf and an Elf. So, while I made the Dwarf a Ranger their counterpart, I just finished is a Paladin who fights with a longbow and two scimitars. - The Fey Hunter Paladin - Paladin - Class Forums - D&D Beyond Forums - D&D Beyond
And with that I now have a level 1-20 templated character for each class in 2024 I can use for a one shot or for people just drop in to play a game without a character. For those interested here are links to the other builds.
Since my main is an Alchemist, I didn't build one for the Artificer. I cannot wait for the UA to complete but hope they change Experimental Elixir. I suppose having one nearly completely useless ability isn't terrible.
