As a freelance writer that regularly works on 5e, I learned the hard way what was and was not in the 5e SRD (not like I got in trouble, but I had to do a lot of research to figure it out).
It is a lot more limited, and more than most people would guess. It isn't just the things that WotC counts as intellectual property like most people think, but also a number of things that are superfluous, that aren't in the original 3.5 OGL, and even a few things that caught people by surprise.
When the SRD even came out, they omitted things that made it hard to play the game as per the SRD (like not having the find familiar spell) which were latter added back in.
Really, you have to be astute to understand that the SRD was carefully culled to comply with lots of rules, many of which we may not even understand fully to this day.
Sounds rather like the work of real wizards, if you ask me....
But you learn to live with their odd ways. :)
Edit: I should add that I work for 3rd party publishers, and though I dream to one day work for Wizards of the Coast, I do not yet have so prestigious a feather in my cap.
During the beta test of D&D Beyond, we'll only be including content that is freely available in the D&D 5th edition SRD and D&D 5th edition Basic Rules and will not include additional content from a Commercially Released Book or Supplement.
All of the remaining published content from the PHB, DMG, MM and other D&D 5th edition books will be added to D&D Beyond for product release - the cost for accessing this material has not yet been announced.
There should be an additional filter for spells: spells that require an attack roll. Some spellcasters like me do not like to rely on spells that allow a saving throw.
I am playing an Eldritch Knight and it would be great to be able to filter the spells based on primarily non caster classes as the restrictions make things a little trickier to find the spells sometimes.

This will be found under the "Subclass" filter a little closer to launch.
Forgive me if someone already beat me to this, I was curious. I noticed that the spell lists give you all the details but one detail; in the type of spell it is, I was wondering if it would be important to know if the spell is cast in a cone, sphere, cube, and so on. I think that would be some useful information as a new player last night was curious as to how the spell would work with our minis and the map. Would this be a feature that others would find useful as well?
I am a bloody moron. I just noticed that you guys have icons. Please ignore. :P Not just reading for comprehension but looking at the actual symbols. Honestly, so far there really isn't anything I can see that you need to amend, you guys are completely rocking this.
Small formatting feedback. With the range/area of effect for a spell, the header is range/area, but the listing below it shows range (area). I recommend making them the same: either with the slash or with the parenthesis.
Today I wanted to find 1st level spells that were ritual based. Alarm is one of them and I did not see anything about it also saying it was ritual based and there is no tag for ritual as a search choice either. You can thank my PbP in Kaladesh and leveling up to chose a feat for me seeing what came up since some of the spells I can use are in the Basic Rules/SRD.

PbP - Beregost Blues - Portia Starflower, Half Elf, Cleric, Life Domain PbP - Tome of Annhilation - Vistani Mocanu, Human, Bard
Ah, missed that R and I had a feeling it would be part of the fun advanced coolness. Thanks for clarifying that.
And checking again I see why I missed it. Even on my desktop it looks like a little black box with some white squiggle in it. LOL! Might be better if it was a tad bigger for us older folk or just spelled out so we can't brain fart on it. ;)
Hi Yakka, welcome to the forums! Your help is appreciated, but there is something I should make clear:
D&D Beyond features only free content from Wizards of the Coast whilst in its beta. That includes the Basic Rules (including the previously separate SRD) and the Elemental Evils Player's Companion. Books you have to pay for with spells such as Blade Ward, such as the Player's Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide, will be available at release though the pricing has not yet been revealed.
Please look at the Developer Quotes link in my signature for further information.
It may have been mentioned before but I would like to put on the wish list that spells have a visual representation for AOE of the space that they would take up on a 5' grid system.

Still, I hadn't realized how little the SRD has.

Missing spell from the compendium.

How about by attack type?

Ritual tag is in the advanced features - also any ritual spells have an R in black spellbook (look like a black box) next to the name.

Wary the wizard who focuses on homebrew, for he can create nightmares that you wouldn't even dream of

The cantrip Blade Ward is missing from the spell list.
