On the rogue character sheet, Thieves' Tools proficiency shows up under Features > Proficiencies correctly, but if as a rogue you choose Expertise for Thieves' Tools, theres no little [EXP] indicator like on the skills section to indicate you double the bonus.
I'm new to D&D beyond and gearing up to play some 5e in the future. I just noticed this today. Odd that it isn't listed in the Skills section. Thanks for the tip on adding a custom skill. Totally fixes it
Artificers too, for all their Tool Expertises. I do put them as custom skills with the text for each excerpted from XGtE so I can use it just like the Skills, but it sure would be swell if they already had the spots and the expertise and all I had to do would be the copy and pasting for the text.
I still feel that it's a problem that the character sheet doesn't surface the information that a character has expertise in a tool, or even allow any form of tool checks, but that's a bit more complex, because they could be using literally any ability score.
I asked a player to make a Vehicles (Land) proficiency check using charisma once when dealing with a sentient animated cart...
I will talk to the character sheet team about it next week and see where things are.
In the skills list on the character sheet, it shows 3 of the 4 skills I picked for expertise with the circled dot. The one that is missing is Thieves' Tools. Putting in the Thieves' Tools manually is fine and works. But when I go to "Features and Traits" on the character sheet, it only shows the skills I picked at 6th level. Neither the skill or tools I picked at creation are there.
I'm so happy I found this thread. I can't believe I've never noticed the Skills (gear) at the bottom of the Skills panel? Thank you for the recommendation for creating a custom skill. I can now roll on Thieves' Tools with my expertise. Thank you very much.
Here I am over a year later and yep, the bug still exists. They could easily fix this I would think.
It's not a bug.
Tool proficiencies aren't included in the Skills list because they are not skills. They do not feature the skill and bonus because you build the roll on as needed basis, since tools can be called for using a variety of ability mods. Some rolls will use Int, some use Dex, some might use Strength. For this reason tools aren't included in the skill checks. This replicates official character sheets. So it is a deliberate design, not a bug.
If you find you are rolling the tool with a certain ability more often you can just add it to the skills section manually.

Any chance this is fixed on the new sheets?
Almost certainly.
I have expertise Thieves Tools on a character I am playing currently, so if it doesn't, I'll be nudging the devs to sort it! :)

Still isn't fixed.
I have the same issue. Noticed that Thieves tools skill vanished upon reloading the page while i was playing. Not annoying at all..
I’m in the same boat. Very frustrating.
You can at least create custom skills now and make them higher modifiers. Not ideal, but at least it works.

Yeah, this bug is confusing for sure. Can we have it fixed?
I guess that's a big "no" on getting it fixed... Still having this problem, years later....
Just add it as a custom skill. Solved.

Great suggestion! That is exactly what I did. Thank you.

True, but if the “Skills” section were to become the “Skills & Tool Proficiencies” section…. That would be convenient.

How do you propose the sheet add in tool proficiencies in the same way as a skill when, unlike skills they have no default ability attached?
