It currently does not work, you didn’t miss anything. The common workaround is to make a homebrewed copy of the Fighting Initiate feat and modify it match the Fighting Style and then apply the feat directly yohe character sheet.
It would be great if they could add a dropdown for whichever battle master technique you pick! It's pretty annoying right now that you have to make a note of it elsewhere or manually add it, because you can't create a box to keep track of your single superiority die.
I appreciate the response, but is there a way to add this as an "extra" feat to a character, other than at the 4 level intervals? Otherwise this would have to replace my actual feat, when it's just supposed to be my fighting style.
You can add a feat directly to your character sheet under Features & Traits->Feats->Manage Feats. You will be able to select your maneuver there as well.
If you've purchased the Player's Handbook or the Martial Adept feat, you can follow this to do exactly what you want it to do. This also has the process for a fixed version of the Martial Adept feat (not sure if they've fixed it in the official version since I made that forum thread)
I wanted to make a quick report, because when you choose this fighting style the maneuver can't actually be selected.
Hope this can be fixed soon, or if actually possible made more visible.
Have a nice day.

You can create the box by adding an Action to the feat with a single limited use. Please see the Homebrew Feats FAQ #3 for instructions how: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/131411-a-homebrewers-how-to-faq).
