Is there anyway to show the Character Sheet's Description and Notes when you share a character's link? The character's background not showing up is my biggest problem.
in short - no, that's not something you're able to do (currently).
Community feedback was that these areas should be visible to the DM in a campaign, but not to other players, which means that "secret" information on the background isn't spoiled.
It has been suggested by some that there should be a "toggle" for this, however staff are looking at options for all such things - if they implemented all of the toggles that people have asked for, the character options page would be hundreds of little toggle boxes!
I personally don't think there needs to be a toggle. A DM should be privy to most information, or they could always add one more tab of "Secrets" that only the player can see, and anything you don't want the DM seeing you can put there, but otherwise players would just need to be aware that their DM can see everything on their sheet.
I wouldn't mind having two link options though. When you click the dropdown and select shareable link have two options, a basic details and a full details option, so I could choose to send a link showing all my background/notes if I wanted to. For me this would be beneficial because my DM isn't on DNDBeyond. I also have a long distance friend who isn't in my D&D group but is in his own where he lives and we often share our character stories and adventures and get each-other's opinions on our character backgrounds and stuff. But to send him my background I need to copy & paste or send him a word file, because sending him the link to my character on DNDBeyond doesn't show him my background or notes.
Instead of worrying about toggles, can't you just make one of the tabs visible by default for public character sheets? For example, you could allow the Description tab to be visible, but the Notes tab stays private/DM only. That way we can put stuff we want other people in the party to see (like say hair colour) in one tab, and still have a secret place for just us & the DM. You don't even have to add a new tab! Just let us know that one of them is now visible.
I too find it funny that I can see someone’s exact ability scores, the spells they can cast, their HP, the feats they’ve chosen, and the level they are but the one piece of information I can’t see is the physical description like hair color and height. Seems to be the opposite of what should be true.
I understand that some of the fields (like background history and allies) could be private, but that’s not really “description” (ie how you would describe a character) but more “personality” or “relationships”.
Please fix this. The current hidden status of the description section is absurd and reinforces every negative stereotype about D&D being a tactical war game and not a role-playing game. This is a really bad look for D&D Beyond.
On a practical level, it's beyond frustrating to put lots of info about my character on my sheet and have no one be able to see it and not be able to see stuff about fellow party members.
Why not have a SECRETS tab that's hidden to just character and DM, but open up description and notes for all players to see...
Description is really stupid to have have hidden, DNDBEYOND Staff... I can't know my party members height, weight or eye color because its a secret? wtf?
Why is this still a thing? I want to be able to send my dm the character sheet and have all of the important information there without adding it to a campaign. I don't really care for the add to campaign function because I don’t want everyone in my group seeing the details of my character sheet, just the dm.

If you set the character sheet as “private” only the DM and you can see the sheet. The other players will only be able to see Name, Race, and Class.
I'd like to be able to link my full character without exporting it to a pdf. Sorry, this is an old thread but genuinely why is this still an issue 2 years later? It's so teeth-gratingly frustrating.
Because half the people want everything including Description etc. to get shared, and half the people don’t even want Race and Class shared. They’re stuck trying to figure out how to make everybody happy at the same time.
Even better, there is an appearance field ... maybe that is public, but I had a hard time finding it and then wrote my PC such that another PC or NPC would quickly get the sort of description we might expect on a first glance of my PC. I'd like to that to be seen.
If you don't even want race and class shared, you can just make your character private so only the GM sees. You are incorrect on all levels: letting character description fields be seen is broadly supported by everyone. There is no controversy here.

A few things:
Some DMs insist on Public Sheets for their own ease in navigating between PCs within a campaign.
Even when set to private, race and class are still visible to all players within a campaign. If you wish to use points to argue against me, please use factual ones in future.
I never said there was any controversy. I said that half the people want one thing and the other half want the exact opposite, and that there is a technical issue on DDB’s end to figure out how to make both happen. If you wish to argue with me, I’m your huckleberry, but you gotta argue against points I actually make.
You are incorrect, there are just as many threads requesting higher levels of privacy as there are asking for these fields to be visible. If you wish to make claims about “everyone,” please be sure you are correct first.
So what you're telling me is that the entire userbase is in agreement over wanting higher levels of customization of what can be seen on a character sheet and that a technical solution, a public/private toggle on each section would take care of everything, got it.

I agree this is a major issues. The players should be able to see the things that are available on the Description tab.
I'd even go so far that I would make the Notes tab available for the campaign members as well.
Why not add a clear note saying "private notes not shared"?

Came here with the same problem. It would be great if they would fix this :)

This is a problem I am having too.
I'm drawing some characters to a campaign and all I need is the description like gender, hair etc. but, it isn't visible.

Jumping in here to agree that we should have the Notes tab on a toggle.
