During the beta test of D&D Beyond, we'll only be including content that is freely available from Wizards of the Coast, including the D&D 5th edition SRD , D&D 5th edition Basic Rules, Elemental Evil Companion and potentially others. The beta will not include additional content from a Commercially Released Book, Module or Supplement.
All of the remaining published content from the PHB, DMG, MM and other D&D 5th edition books will be added to D&D Beyond for product release - the cost for accessing this material has not yet been announced.
Unfortunately this kind of stopped me in my tracks with the character builder, because I really wanted to try it out for my current character (and, honestly, verify I built everything out right, since I'm very new to D&D), and since she's an arcane trickster it's hard to proceed much further. I'm hoping to see what this all looks like once more of the archetypes get added in.
So this works out to needing to buy the player's handbook digitally (even though I already bought it in hardcover) in order to fully create a character sheet, when really all I wanted to do was error-check my work? Considering I already DO have the book and just kind of assumed based on that that Arcane Trickster was standard issue, I wasn't expecting that that was where the paywall kicked in, or where else it might, or what bits I'm expected to buy when.

The srd basic rules elemental evil bits were and are free. Everything else is pay for and has been since day one and has also been stated all over the forums.

I currently only see the Thief Archetype. My rogue is an Arcane Trickster.

A dwarf with a canoe on his back? What could go wrong?
Weaksauce! I wanna experience it all now!

Ditto. Stopped my build with Assassin
So...Arcane Trickster (for instance) is in the Player's Handbook. Are we actually going to have to pay extra to have that option?
When are the other archetypes live? Can't access then yet.
D&D Beyond can be used for free and contains information from the following "free to use" sources published by Wizards of the Coast: D&D 5th edition SRD , D&D 5th edition Basic Rules and Elemental Evil Companion.
Content from other sources, such as the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide or Monster Manual will need to be purchased from the Marketplace, or accessed via a Master Tier Subscription.

If you need help with homebrew, please post on the homebrew forums, where multiple staff and moderators can read your post and help you!
"We got this, no problem! I'll take the twenty on the left - you guys handle the one on the right!"🔊
So if I bought a master tiered subscription I would have access to that module and would not need to additionally buy the module?
Content can only be obtained via a subscription if part of a campaign where somebody with the master subscription has shared the content.
If you're not part of such a campaign, then you need to purchase the content.
