I am aware of the plans to make an API, but as you mentioned, that has low priority and will be done only after all the other changes (I assume partly also because as things change, API would need to be changed as well and thus adding more work)
That's why I asked just for export of the character sheet - they already use json, it is just not documented. It would also not need that much work if something changes.. some elements will be different, but that's details. I think this export is much more reasonable request than API and it would help me with my project idea, without waiting for a long time for the API.
Not sure if this has been asked for already but how about a way to add a temporary bonus to attributes/skills from the character page. I'm sure its in the making but I just thought that I would suggest it. Also maybe a way to override the number of spell slots.
For my own curiosity, why would you need to override the number of spell slots?
Mostly for some homebrew magic items that increase the number of spell slots are available to a character since there is not of yet a way to do it with the items themselves.

Also it's a part of the Sorcerer's class feature Font of Magic.
fix the long rest problem resetting the overwrite HP and I would love to have a exsuation point keeper on the character sheet just like you have with other things that you can mark off if you have 1 or 2 points etc.
It would be helpful if ammunition for weapons were accessible under the relevant entry in the attacks section. This is so it is easier to deduct ammo used.
How about the ability to import or reassign characters? Allowing the DM to prepare characters and then transfer them to players would be great. Also, if someone leaves or is absent, it would be good to be able to move characters between players as needed.
I second this. Very helpful to be able to do. I know it is on the list. Any update on when these new features might be released?
That is actually currently possible. Here is how to do it. Add a character to a campaign. On the campaign page, click the unassigned button for the character. Players in the campaign can then go to the campaign page and click claim to take over the character.

You can already do this. Dm just needs to add the character to the campaign and then while on the campaign page click unassign. Then the player taking over goes to the page and claims the character.
Is this the appropriate place to grouse about the use of "offhand" in the character builder? That's not a thing, y'all. If not please direct me to the appropriate complaint department.

What would you prefer they call it? It's a way of designating the "other hand" as in the Two-Weapon Fighting rule:
When you take the Attack action and attack with a light melee weapon that you're holding in one hand, you can use a bonus action to attack with a different light melee weapon that you're holding in the other hand. You don't add your ability modifier to the damage of the bonus attack, unless that modifier is negative.
I'm aware of what it is for. However, the bonus action attack granted by TWF can potentially be taken with either hand. The are no mechanics for which is your main hand and which is your offhand. I've seen plenty of confusion arise from this word and people thinking that all attacks from the Attack Action must come from their main hand and the offhand can only be used for the bonus action attack. Or that they don't get the stat mod to damage if they use their offhand even if they aren't making the bonus action attack granted by TWF.
Since TWF is the only instance in the game where that button is relevant they could just call it that. *shrug

Is your suggestion to change "Offhand" to "Two Weapon Fighting"? Maybe it's just because I'm very familiar with the game, but I think "Offhand" is the more intuitive descriptor and makes more sense from a mechanics-as-flavor perspective. Assuming a lack of ambidexterity, a person fighting with two weapons would use the weapon that would deal the most damage in their dominant hand the vast majority of the time (if not always).
Also, how often do you come across a situation where someone attacks with the "secondary" weapon and not the "primary" one? To ask it another way, if my character has a short sword and a dagger, why would I attack with the dagger if I wasn't going to attack with the short sword? In every combination I can think of, there's going to be either a weapon that has a higher damage dice than the other (in which case you'd want to add your modifier to this attack) or both weapons have the same damage dice (in which case it doesn't matter which weapon you use with the modifier). Outside of some weirdly specific circumstance where a specific enemy is vulnerable or resistant/immune to one type of damage and another enemy is vulnerable or resistant/immune to a different type of damage and the PC is dual wielding a weapons that do those two different types of damage respectively, I can't think of anytime this would be really helpful.
Let's say you typically wield a Flame Tongue Shortsword in your right hand and a Frost Brand Shortsword in your left. You go to make your normal attack sequence; Flame Tongue first, then Frost Brand, but quickly discern that the enemy you're fighting is immune to fire damage. Now, are you going to juggle the swords so your "dominant" hand is holding the more powerful weapon in this scenario? Nah, you're just going to lead with the Frostbrand as your Attack action and use your bonus action to attack with the Flame Tongue (which is at this point fundamentally identical to a normal shortsword).
All that said, I'm not sure that nomenclature between "Offhand" and "Two Weapon Fighting" is really all that important as long as someone understands the Rule As Intended - which is that you can make any weapon attack with any weapon you are holding, and that the rules for two weapon fighting basically just grant one extra weapon attack as a bonus action as long as your attacks are made with light weapons, you make at least one with each hand and the attack made with your bonus action does not add your modifier to damage.
It doesn't really matter when or why you would want to. Say you have a whip and a dagger with Dual Wielder. Now you have reach, slashing, and piercing to choose from for your various attacks. But again, it doesn't matter why you would want to, you just can. And using the term offhand makes some people assume things that aren't the case. So many things that aren't the case. You don't have an offhand and a main hand. You don't have a dominant, primary, or secondary. You just have two hands. And everybody is indeed ambidextrous. Hell, JC just a day or two ago had fun times on Twitter having to say that if you have extra attacks and attack with both weapons you add the stat mod to damage for both because losing the stat mod is tied to the bonus action granted by twf, not to which hand it is in.
And obviously if they know the mechanics then it doesn't matter what you call it. But I've talked a lot of people through a lot of problems with the mechanics and many, many times that word and the assumptions they made when hearing it based on other systems combined with only kiiinda knowing what was going on in fifth has been an issue.
2 additions to the current character sheet maker that would make it amazing, firstly a better inventory management tool, something that allows for the creation and addition of on the fly homebrew item addition, and allows for the tracking of items that may not be specifically in your inventory (I.e. left in your room/carriage/bag of holding) and the ability to keep the stats of certian creatures on the character sheet as a quick reference (the stats of your wild shapes, familiar, frequent summons, ect.) and although a little much, being able to manage the inventory of said creature would be awesome (what your mount is carrying).
A quick suggestion - for Paladins, there should be a way to better allocate the Lay On Hands feature rather than using a +/- button. Should be able to manually input how much would be used.
Also, when searching for items, the search box should be a little more dynamic. If I enter “potion of superior healing” nothing comes up, given the way the potion is categorized.

Would love for the ability to manually add spells to our spell/attacks list without having to create a homebrew item to handle that!
e.g. adding the Thaumaturgy cantrip to my Tiefling Warlock's spell list from their Infernal Legacy racial trait
I'm pretty sure the character sheet revamp will help with this.
