It would be great if you could group items in a backpack or bag of holding to make 'Encumbrance' a bit easier for characters to manage... and let me be a bit more of a dick when I'm DMing. So when you're using the Encumbrance Variant it reduces movement speed and players often have to drop their backpacks in combat. One of my players wasn't pay attention to where they dropped their bags and destroyed a few of them with a fireball which resulted in a discussion of what was being carried on their person and what was in the bag that they destroyed. If there was a flag to group things by what is and isn't in the backpack it would make it a lot easier to manage people's speed and inventory when they don't have their packs on them.
If they have a bag of holding it would be great if you can flag what's in there so it reduces the weight of what the character is holding as well.
I believe some form of containers will be included in the character sheet revamp, if not when it launches then shortly after. I'd have to rewatch the development update to confirm, but I'm pretty sure that's the case. Maybe someone else can verify.

Let's say you typically wield a Flame Tongue Shortsword in your right hand and a Frost Brand Shortsword in your left. You go to make your normal attack sequence; Flame Tongue first, then Frost Brand, but quickly discern that the enemy you're fighting is immune to fire damage. Now, are you going to juggle the swords so your "dominant" hand is holding the more powerful weapon in this scenario? Nah, you're just going to lead with the Frostbrand as your Attack action and use your bonus action to attack with the Flame Tongue (which is at this point fundamentally identical to a normal shortsword).
All that said, I'm not sure that nomenclature between "Offhand" and "Two Weapon Fighting" is really all that important as long as someone understands the Rule As Intended - which is that you can make any weapon attack with any weapon you are holding, and that the rules for two weapon fighting basically just grant one extra weapon attack as a bonus action as long as your attacks are made with light weapons, you make at least one with each hand and the attack made with your bonus action does not add your modifier to damage.
It doesn't really matter when or why you would want to. Say you have a whip and a dagger with Dual Wielder. Now you have reach, slashing, and piercing to choose from for your various attacks. But again, it doesn't matter why you would want to, you just can. And using the term offhand makes some people assume things that aren't the case. So many things that aren't the case. You don't have an offhand and a main hand. You don't have a dominant, primary, or secondary. You just have two hands. And everybody is indeed ambidextrous. Hell, JC just a day or two ago had fun times on Twitter having to say that if you have extra attacks and attack with both weapons you add the stat mod to damage for both because losing the stat mod is tied to the bonus action granted by twf, not to which hand it is in.
And obviously if they know the mechanics then it doesn't matter what you call it. But I've talked a lot of people through a lot of problems with the mechanics and many, many times that word and the assumptions they made when hearing it based on other systems combined with only kiiinda knowing what was going on in fifth has been an issue.
Errorpheus, that seems like that weirdly specific scenario I mentioned. While it can definitely occur, it seems like a really, really rare occurrence.
Also, while I suppose this would technically be RAW, I find the idea that every PC is ambidextrous by default to be very unintuitive, especially since there's a two weapon fighting style that essentially grants what looks to be the in game equivalent of ambidexterity to fighters (allowing them to add their ability modifier to the second attack when two weapon fighting). I guess it would be classified as an unintentional house rule I follow, but, in the above scenario, I would make the PC choose a main hand and off hand and spend at least a bonus action (but most likely a full action) if they wanted to switch which hand was holding which weapon mid-combat. Unless, of course, they had the two weapon fighting style, thus making the argument moot.
As far as DDB is concerned, I'm still not sure what the request is for them to change/implement. If you're the type of DM that doesn't use offhand, just tell your players to not check the offhand box. From what I can tell, you can have your character wield as many weapons as you want and have DDB show you all of them in the attack section with modifiers.
That is most certainly a house rule. And mechanics misunderstandings like that are exactly what not using the phrase offhand is meant to prevent. And the offhand button does serve a purpose in that it sets up an attack to be used for the bonus action attack granted by TWF. It is just misleadingly named. Because there is no offhand.

I wasn't even aware there was an offhand box to check until it was brought up, so the term "offhand" (at least in my case) has nothing to do with it. If not offhand, what would you call it that would make more sense and fit in the allotted space?
Also, I'd consider it less of a mechanics misunderstanding on my part and more of a preference for a common sense approach that isn't about min/maxing. Even knowing the official ruling, it feels like either a pretty big oversight on the part of the design team or an intentional but misguided attempt to allow PCs to do more damage. If min/maxing is your style, go for it. It's not for me.
Again, I don't see this issue coming up all that often. Maybe its the nature of my DMing style and the style of other DMs that I've played with, but I have never, in nearly 2 decades of gaming, come across a situation where I or one of the other players ever considered making only one attack on a turn and using the weapon typically used to make the second attack.
How about a projected release date? WOTC has successfully (and legally) killed all competition without offering an alternative yet. When will all this cool stuff be released?

They don't give release dates, because if they then miss the release date, everyone will get angry at them. Instead, they'll release it when it's done, and to the standards they've set for it. If you watch the last two developer updates you can see the new character sheet in action.

... they wrote on the forums linked to the fully functional character builder and toolset. Just because there are improvements that are coming doesn't mean what's been available since launch (many months ago) no longer exists.
"but I have never, in nearly 2 decades of gaming, come across a situation where I or one of the other players ever considered making only one attack on a turn and using the weapon typically used to make the second attack."
I find this to be odd really. I have seen a few times in the past 35 years where a character may use two weapons that deal different damage and forego attacks with one weapon or the other based off of damage type and creature they are fighting. I guess experiences vary from person to person.

I suppose I could have said that a bit more clearly. I have come across those situations where a PC chooses to use one weapon over another. What I have not come across is the PC continuing to wield both weapons while only attacking with the "secondary" one. You're right, though, this may be just my personal experiences and have no reflection on the majority of other players.
The extra weapon may not be useful as a offensive tool, but it continues to be useful in defense. In mechanical terms, they still get the AC bonus from the Two-Weapon Fighting feat, but can use their bonus action for other things.

That's a good point. It would be useful in that scenario. It's not a position I've ever been in before, but I can see how that situation could easily come up. Thanks for the info and for keeping it civil!
Hi guys, sorry if this is a horse beaten to death already but here is what comes to mind as improvements to the character sheet from my experiences at the table. I have mostly new players and printing the sheets so they can hold them and page through them helps quite a bit.
That being said I'd love it if in the exportable character sheets we could remove things we aren't likely to use like 1st level hit points and Ability score improvements. Instead I'd love to see a section with tool proficiencies and feats more prominently featured. As I said above I have several new players who aren't strong on mechanics and it would ease their lives to have their feats and tools easily and clearly displayed maybe even with a quick summary. Heck thinking about it a quick summary of class features would be great to print along with those. It means having character relevant mechanics and options easily available to them without flipping through the books so much, or pausing remind them of the choices as often.
Also, as a minor thing, it would be easier if the bonus cantrip from spell sniper added to both spells known and to the combat section like the rest of our cantrips, I think the bonus cantrip for high elf is already adding properly to both.
Channel Divinity - Domain and Oath specific ones listed for use instead of generic text for "click to use" purposes. From a data collection and reporting perspective this would be useful as well. How many times are we turning undead vs vow of emnity vs destructive wrath across all players.
From a player perspective I play in multiple campaigns with Paladins, and Clerics. Sometimes when the DM asks me what i want to do I look at my character sheet and thinking of my remaining clickable options. Because I've moved from 2nd Edition to 5e my brain when it see Channel Divinity just goes into "no undead to turn, can't use it". But if it said, "Channel Divinity - Vow of Emnity" I'd definitely use it more :P. It's like people online who always forget Hunter's Mark :P. Yes I can be like that at times.

Sorry for clarification. I'm just asking for the text underneath to be dynamic based on class oath/domain combinations available. Rather than being generic "go look it up" statements.

Last, comment on this. I know if you scroll down far enough you see it. That's sorta the point, it's buried :(. Just not friendly and as usable as it could be.

iirc one of the main things the new sheet is going to be addressing is stuff like that, difficult to find information. If you watch the latest dev preview you can see it in action and looks dope.

I would love to see an option to heavily customize the printable character sheet. Maybe upload your own assets and templates and customize where the info (name, stats, etc.) should locate.

Can we please add weight to currency? I like to run a realistic survival campaign. PHB States 1 pound per 50 coins.

Just more speed when swiping page-to-page on the sheet when using the website with mobile. Seems really sluggish to me.
Otherwise, I love this dang thing!
