1. The main actions panel should be on the left so it has the most amount of room, because it holds the most amount of information in it. Swap it with [ Saving Throws / Senses / Proficiencies & Languages / Skills ]
2. The side panel should pop up with the information fixed to the top of the browser window, NOT to the top of the HTML page (and should stay there with a scroll):
This as it currently is:
vs. this i mocked up really quick:
3. Ability to minimise panels to a link; but this is mostly in the context of creating more space on screen for the main actions panel (earlier in this thread someone suggest just having this panel twice, so you could have actions & spells up or whatever combination you wanted).
I don't personally need the Senses and Proficiencies & Languages up at all times for example. I could click those text links to bring it up in the side panel for when i need that information.
4. In the interest of #2 and creating space; consolidation of Skills into the Saving Throws panel. But I can see where you are maybe considering as well people with poor eyesight to keep things at a minimum text size.
I like a lot of these ideas. Passive senses could just be rolled into the relevant skills. Proficiencies & Languages could just be a tab behind Skills, then everything could fit in the left column. That way could could conceivably have two columns to the right with all the tabs in both so you could have whatever you want up side-by-side. Eg Equipment and Actions, or Spells and Actions, Actions and Notes etc etc
When a character has advantage or disadvantaged on a saving throw, this is mentioned at the bottom of the saving throws box.
It would be nice, if advantage or disadvantaged on a certain skill could also be mentioned at the bottom of the skill box.
This would be excellent! My group doesn't use the passive sensory abilities. In order to keep the the Observant feat relevant, where it grants +5 passive perception and passive investigation we instead grant advantage on rolls for those checks. This would be a worthwhile way to reflect advantage on a skill in the new character sheet.
I have been working at updating all my homebrew subclasses with the appropriate "snippets" and "actions". Most of them showed the snippets and actions of the base subclasses/archetypes on which the homebrew ones were build upon. I also had to rework my multiple homebrew feats to add the snippets and actions as well. I'm not complaining, mind you. I understand its part of the joy of having this wonderful character sheet update. :)
However, I feel there should be some sort of official announcement and "how-to" walkthrough for the homebrewing D&D Beyond community. Many might not be aware that their homebrew classes and feats need a serious update.
After toying around a lot with the new sheet with multiple characters of various classes and levels and homebrew additions, I really must give once again kudos to everyone involved in the update.
CUSTOM SKILLS: playing around with custom skills still cause popups of RED WINDOWS OF ERRORS.
I'm not sidestepping your other feedback as we definitely are reading it :), but this one specifically I tried to reproduce and I couldn't get it to happen. Can you give me a character and a specific thing you are trying to do to custom skills?
Cantrip taken with spell sniper feat does not have its range doubled. I took eldricth blast for a sorcerer and eldricth blast was still showing 120 feet instead of 240 for range.
Ok, so the exported sheet is really important to my group, because a lot of my group just doesn't like having a device out at the table, so they need a sheet that prints well.
Having said that, I've found some more problems with the exported sheet.
In the Actions section, my swashbuckler/bladesinger with crossbow expert has rather a lot of things to do with bonus actions, and it brought to light how inefficiently worded the bonus actions section is. It needs to be in the style of "2/Short Rest, Bonus Action, Activate Bladesong", rather than the wordy text from the book. leave that for another page that has the details of class features. On the Actions section, we need maximum efficiency, rather than maximum informative detail.
Another thing that could help, is if the fields can scroll, so all the information is there even if it won't print, and we can edit the text in the field to make everything print.
edit: Perhaps allow us to edit the descriptions in the browser sheet. Have a snippet section, that is what shows up when you export? That way, if we need to customize a field in the export sheet, we don't have to do it every time we level up or otherwise need to re-export the sheet.
Wow you guys have made a lot of progress in a very short amount of time! Bravo, looks great!
Came across a couple snags that I wanted to bring to the attention of the DnD Beyond folks:
1) I am an Arcane Trickster Rogue / Hexblade Warlock multiclass. When I click a spell and it opens on the sidebar, and I choose to "Cast" in a "Pact Slot," It still uses a 1st-level slot not a Pact slot. I am not having this problem when I click the "Cast" button on the list of spells itself.
2) Tiefling's racial ability, "Hellish Rebuke." This is a 1st-level spell, however in the case of Infernal Legacy it is cast at 2nd-level strength. The spell appears in the "2nd-level" spell section, however in both the "Racial Traits" list and the "Reaction" list, it is confusingly listed as "Hellish Rebuke (1st)." Not sure how to solve this one. I know it's conveying that this is a 1st-level spell in general throughout DnD Beyond database, but for Tiefling use it's 2nd-level.
3) For Rogue's Cunning Action: Mage Hand Legerdemain - after it's been cast (as an action), "you can use the bonus action granted by your Cunning Action to control the hand." - This should be included as a Rogue "Bonus Action" list option under Cunning Action.
Hi I noticed also that now when you go to choose a feat (instead of the feats available to you) you can see all the feats.
Can this be an option in the preferences so We can decide if we want to see all feats OR just the feats we have a prerequisite for?
Cause Like it it now its a bit tedious when it comes to teaching new player as a loot of questions start popping up as to why they can't take that feat if it is being shown as available on the choose a feat list and every time I have to explain in detail that they don't meet the prerequisites.
Unarmed Strike for a Monk is still described as "You can punch, kick, head-butt, or use a similar forceful blow and deal bludgeoning damage equal to 1 + STR modifier" - even though all the stats are taking into account that I can use my DEX modifier properly. May want to make a language adjustment in the case of Monks / any other exceptions.
Here's a fun thought: Why not have the option to "pop out" the side info into it's own browser window? That way, for people with larger high res screens, they can keep both always open -at once without having the constant back and forth. Again, it would need to be optional because if you're fighting for screen real-estate it wouldn't work too well.
I've managed to talk almost my entire group to switching over to Beyond after the revamp. I got my Master subscription Saturday and we played Sunday. They're really liking it. I have gotten some feedback, however.
- I know this is coming, but they requested containers for equipment.
- My druid requested being able to have a section for her wild shape animal or conjured animal statblock information.
- The cleric requests preset spell lists. He said he has a list prepared for social, one for adventuring, and one for combat. It was too much work to swap them all out every rest.
- I made an item and it isn't calculating the save DC properly in my cleric's spell list. I left the spell DC blank on spells attached to the warhammer and it is either leaving off the proficiency or ability score (can't tell because they're both 4).
I feel there is a bit of trying to do several thing at once In the "combat" section of the sheet. It seems like its trying to show you the specifics that you can do depending on what you have equipped and such, but also as a quick guide of whats possible. It kind of works and kind of doesn't.
It seems a bit confusing as to why there is a "Attack" section and a "Action" section. If you click Attack, it shows all your attacks, but if you click action it shows the attacks you can take with your Action, but also all the other things you can do with the action.
In the "Bonus Action" section, it always displays the two weapon fighting blurb.
Actions in Combat
Two-Weapon Fighting
In addition on the Action section, there is an entry for Unarmed attack right next to my other attacks, but then it is also listed in a separate section at the bottom, in the what is posisble type area:
Unarmed Strike
You can punch, kick, head-butt, or use a similar forceful blow and deal bludgeoning damage equal to 1 + STR modifier
As I'm writing this I think maybe there just should be a subheading for the things that are possible something like
On the Action tab, it could say:
Possible Actions
Attack,Cast a Spell,Dash,Disengage,Dodge,Grapple,Help,Hide,Improvise,Ready,Search,Shove,Use an Object
Great work and thank you! This is a huge step in the right direction that is much appreciated by our group of players.
In lieu of custom class support (which I'm sure has already been requested countless times and will take time to develop), a nice temporary fix would be to allowing us to edit the text under Class Features. It would only need to be completely cosmetic; no need to tie it to any other functionality of the sheet. This way, we could have our custom class info all in one spot, which is aligned with your stated goals for this update. Instead, we have to use the Notes section (or even worse, PAPER), which gets right back to the issues you worked so hard to avoid.
It seems a bit confusing as to why there is a "Attack" section and a "Action" section. If you click Attack, it shows all your attacks, but if you click action it shows the attacks you can take with your Action, but also all the other things you can do with the action.
All attacks require an action or bonus action, but not all actions or bonus actions are attacks. I think it's OK to have a "clean", cluster-free Attack-only tab for quick reference. Some players might like this.
I know that you can add feats and skill proficiency overrides to characters now, but I'm curious if there is a way to add additional spells such as adding call lightning to a storm sorcerer. I can add spells though a feat or item, but it doesn't give me the option to cast it with a spell slot. I would hope that there would be a way to toggle if it counts toward spells known/prepared or not. I imagine that some players could be given the ability to cast an additional spells through some quest or something similar.
I have a level 4 Battlemaster Fighter and took Martial Adept and it isn't being reflected on the sheet - Should have 5 Superiority Dice, but still have 4, and missing the two extra maneuvers.

A friend today said he's thinking of becoming a paid subscriber to DDB because of the new character sheet. Kudos to the Curse DDB team.

Back with more suggestions after the latest update :)
Would it be possible to add an extra customizable "OTHER" tab under "DESCRIPTION"' (i.e. ALL | BACKGROUND | CHARACTERISTICS | APPEARANCE | OTHER)
And another one as well under NOTES (maybe label them OTHER 1 | OTHER 2... and allow user to edit the tab name?)
In other words, a request for plenty of customizable note spaces! :D
