This might be user error, but there doesn't seem to be a way to change starting class for multiclass builds without deleting every class and starting over. One of the reasons I purchased the books with character options was to try out new builds. Not being able to change starting class is making it hard to iterate on builds to improve them.
There should be a red X next to the level. If I understand what you're saying.
The red X will delete the class, but that's exactly what I don't want to do. I want to keep the current classes, but swap which one counts as the "starting class" for things like starting HP and especially proficiencies, since you don't get all starting proficiencies when you multiclass.
I have to ask why you would change your starting class?
"I know I've been a Wizard for a few adventures and I know we say we're about 5 times better than when we started this adventure, but I've secretly been a Ranger the entire time!"

Not for characters in games, but for theory crafting character ideas.

Ok, I concede the point. I like building and changing characters. There's been a time or two where I went "well shoot, I'm gonna have to put all this back in"
DNDB not only should allow changing the starting class but allow you to see the order of level up. IE if you Add 1 level of fighter, then 1 level Barbarian, then back to fighter, that is useful information that you want to track.
Same. I have a multiclass character, starting at level 5. Would be great to not have to redo four levels of other classes, just to select Paladin as my starting class. Shame to think, this thread is almost five years old.. And hasn't been noticed by DNDB..
Yh ive been making a character for a one shot and i wanna swap 9 levels of paladin for a fighter to get the prficiency in perception but its soo long to re add all those spells for one preficiency

Oh yeah, now that I understand, afaik, there is no way to do as you want.
This is frustrating. I wish that there was a new way to change my starting class.
I did a google search to see if this was a thing yet, this seem like an easy feature but apparently it isn’t a thing yet
If you delete the starting class, the second one should automatically become the starting class. Then you can re-add the first class again.

Yeah, it just sucks to have to re add all the spells, reselect the subclass, pick features. Would be nice to simply click “Set starting class”
Oh absolutely. But at least we don’t have to delete every class and start over.

I need this as well
4years later and u still cant
Trying to get back into D&D, life got busy after college so its been a few years. Got my new 5e books and ready to roll some dice!
It's astounding that this basic feature hasn't been implemented yet.

Same issue here.
I love multiclassing & have been working through a lot of ideas, including changing which class came first.
A simple switch to do so would save SO much time...

Checking back for updates.
