Please make it easy for me to use stat blocks from third party books.
I know I can copy and paste information from PDFs into a homebrew monster and not make the monster public, but:
stat blocks and the homebrew form have information in a different order (why does the form have 2 pages anyway?)
Copying and pasting from PDFs in particular is annoying, it causes lots of formatting problems because pdfs are closer to images than text documents..
It's really tedious and ripe for user input errors, time-consuming.
It encourages deliberate or accidental copyright violations.
Here's how I imagine it: you give dndbeyond a file (JSON, CSV, whatever) containing what might be hundreds of stat blocks, and they get added to your homebrew collection. In the database, they should be flagged as immutably private. That is, imported statblocks can't ever be made public, nor can homebrew creations based on an "immutably private" stat block.
Currently, when you go through the trouble of adding third-party homebrew stat blocks, there's nothing stopping you from making them public. Under my proposal, you'd have to go out of your way to make restricted third-party content freely available.
PS: the main thread link takes me to https://dndbeyond-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us and not anything Zendesk related; I'd open a ticket for this feature or just upvote an existing one but I don't see where.
I am hero tier, but I don't see how to add an encounter to the campaign with the characters. Is there a link or something to show how it is done? I can make encounters, it is the linking I haven't found
When you edit the encounter & select Manage Characters under Select Preset, that's where you can select the campaign. Note that it's not dynamic, it takes the character levels at the time you make the selection, so when they change you'd have to re-select the campaign again. Not that's usually an issue unless you keep the encounter for a long time.
You can also assign the campaign when you create an encounter. Click Manage Characters and you will see a Select Preset option. Click the dropdown and your campaigns will be at the bottom of the list. Once you choose a campain, it will remain as the default preset for all new encounters, until you choose another.
Also, I just looked, I had set up all of my LMoP encounters when we first started the campaign, and I see that the encounters that have already been run show the characters' levels at that time, but the encounters that have not yet happened show the characters' current levels. So, I think, when you attache the campaign during encounter creation it is more dynamic. That is how it appears to me anyway; I certainly could be looking at it wrong.
Would it please be possible to look into the following:
A folder system for homebrew creations (and for characters) - I've currently got a large list of homebrew creations, and I worry that if I continue to make NPC statblocks, magic items etc. in my next campaign it will bloat very quickly. Even more, whilst I do want to share some of the stuff with my players, I would love the option to share only specific folders with a specific campaign so that my very experimental stuff doesn't appear when they're searching on their character sheets' e.g. inventory or spell options, as it's currently very difficult to see whether something is homebrew or not just from the character sheet.
An improved Custom Item option - I'd love to create a homebrew Poison that I can tell my players about and share with then instead of either having to make a "magical item" and have it incorrectly sorted or instead have to manually create it in each player's character sheet whenever they acquire some. A small thing I know, but I would greatly appreciate it!
Finally, possibly the option to *remove* a proficiency that you get from a class/subclass/origin for further character customisation.
I know some of these have been mentioned in the past, and some are probably tricky to implement but it would be very nice to have them nonetheless!
Thank you. I have been hunting for those simple instructions. I didn't find it intuitive at all. It is simple with your directions, but one has to know that is there to begin looking.

You are certainly right that it isn't intuitive. In all honesty, I had to go back through it to remember the steps myself. Thinking about it, that would be good feedback for the beta test, to make that feature easier to find.
Since we have the "class options manager" now, I'd like the option to create homebrew for sub options to class features and class features themselves without going through making a whole class or subclass for it. For example eldritch invocations, fighting styles, and the like, these can be big parts of a build but sometimes the vanilla features just dont quite get what you need, and while its easy enough to tack on a Feat, for the effect, they still have to select an invocation or fighting style. It can lead to confusion in battle, balancing weirdness, and simply being more awkward. I wouldn't mind the ability to homebrew a pact boon and Invocations to go with it.
Also a homebrew for custom weapons or armor base stats, rather than trying to make an existing gear base work for it.
It would be really nice if there was a flag you could tick for "Adventurer's League Forgotten Realms", the other ones and have it apply the different adjustments needed for that.
Such as choice of magic item at level 5, disabling evil alignment, limiting sources..
Since Adventurer's League is run by Wizards of the Coast.
As a Dungeon Master who loves to homebrew campaigns, I've found myself in a predicament. I'm currently working on my next campaign as my current campaign is starting to wrap up. The issue that I've started to notice is that a lot of my new items and feats are starting to appear in my players' registries. While it's an easy fix to tell my players not to select something or remove from my collection and re-add it via my Creations page. I feel like that becomes a chore. Especially if I ever wish to return to a previous campaign setting that has nearly 50 homebrew.
What am I requesting?
I am currently asking for a Folder-like collection mechanic. Creating a group of homebrew that I can remove or add to a campaign with ease.
Who would this benefit?
Dungeon Masters, not only can they group Homebrew together for their wildly different campaign settings, if they make their homebrew group collection public, they can essentially create miniature campaign packs or add all the homebrew material from their published book they made on the DMGuild. YouTubers who make homebrewed creatures could release monster packs.
When to use this?
Currently I will be running Curse of Strahd, however, I don't want my players to have access to my collection of homebrew Rokugan backgrounds that don't fit the setting. But I wish I could remove all those at once instead of individually.
How to implement?
It can work very similarly to how current homebrew on this site works. Add or remove. If you removed stuff from a published group you created, when you update it people will have to remove the older one in the update list. Once you add a group you can add-remove individual homebrew within the group itself, it'll still show up but it will have "add to collection" similar to how if you created an item but it's not in your collection.
FAQ
Isn't this circumstantial?
Yes, but it'd be very much something a lot of people would appreciate more, especially content creators or people with more than one campaign setting.
Why not wait until a campaign is over before homebrewing for the next?
Some campaigns take a lot more prep than others.
What if I don't like some of the stuff in a Group but I like others?
Items added should still have "Remove from Collection" on them individually.
What if two groups have the same stuff?
Maybe it'll produce a duplicate, unless they share the same ID? If one group has the id and the other has the same id, just have that item not removed when the Group is moved.
Would I be able to make, for example, a spell pack or magic Items pack?
Yes, the idea is to create something similar to how video games used to do map packs.
Could I add other people's content to my group?
Yes, if it's publicly available it shouldn't be limited to just your own personal creations.
Use keyboard number keys to modify the amount of lay on hands points you have so you don't have to click 20 times to record gaining 20 hp. Similar to the hit point process already done.
It would be amazing if there was an option in homebrew creation that the creator could add that would allow the player to turn on and off a feature which would automatically update the modifier adjustments whether the feature was on or off. For example, one of my players is a Shifter race and as apart of his story I'm giving him the option to embrace his spirit animal and be able to fully shift into his animal form (similar to lycan curse) which adds a +1 to strength and -2 to Intelligence among other benefits/flaws. I'd love if there was an option I could add on the homebrew feature for him to check a box or turn it on/off when he's shifted so that his ability scores automatically adjust.
Just a suggestion that would make gameplay smoother and homebrew more fun for the players so they don't have to worry so much about 'all the things' they need to keep track of. Otherwise thank you, as always, for the time invested into making this game so amazing!
[Feature Request] Pages that have MAPS should appear on SIDEBAR MENU for easier access. (SIDEBAR MENU MAP INDICATOR )
Example: Amber Temple (Curse of Strahd Chapter 13) has 2 maps (13.1 Upper Level and 13.2 Lower Level)
The first map is *usually* on the Sidebar tab that first says "Areas of ..."; as it is here when you click "Areas of the Temple (X1-X6)".
The second map is found between "X30. Preserved Library" and "X31. Central Catacombs" but depending on browser window size, you may not immediately see it above or below those entries.
A SIDEBAR MENU MAP INDICATOR would help when navigating DDB source material to more quickly access maps.
The vast majority of items in dndbeyond with a recharge function recharge at dawn. The long rest button does not recharge these features, making it difficult to actually track uses. A dawn button would help alleviate this: it can pull up text that reminds the user to roll for charges and automatically replenishes those that regain all charges at dawn.
It would be useful for features that change a character's form such as Wild Shape and Polymorph to have easy access to the Beastiary. Like an embedded window accessing the stat blocks for different creatures similar to how there is easy access to spells within the character sheet. Perhaps include a "Known Forms" section, so players can easily sort through which creatures they have access to similar to selecting prepared spells.
If this were implemented, maybe the stat blocks could use the same base code as the Encounter Builder, so the player could roll attacks, skill checks, and saving throws from the monster stats directly with their digital dice.

For general usefulness of your website, add a keyword search function to the monster finder and the magic item finder.
For example. If I'm looking up monsters that have the ability to possess something, allow me to keyword search on the monster page for possession. It's kind of hard to find specific things on the Monsters page at times... Or with a magic item, if I want something that has darkvision, to search for that keyword.
A new filter for Feats to search by Ability Score Affected; say I want to search for all Feats which give a +1 to Intelligence. I think this would be significantly more useful that filtering by Source Book, etc.
Page 128. I'm sorry if it's been mentioned, but I'd like a way to create a sidekick besides in homebrew. Like in the character creation screens maybe, as a class. Or, barring that, a way to list the creature you've added to the encounter as an ally. I've hombrewed a sidekick, but in the encounter creator it counts as an enemy when determining difficulty. Also, Tasha's suggests making a PC sidekick for newer players to adjust to the mechanics of the game, but there is no way to achieve that in the app, or the regular site.
•The Ability to edit a player's spell slot limit • The ability to "Go above level 20" by setting no level cap - Example: As a DM I want to allow my players to take 20 levels in 3 classes for a one-shot •The ability to make entire classes, both so player's can use their homebrew classes easier & the class system could be used for above level 20 play Example: A class named "Above level 20 play" homebrewed to follow the DMG's reward for above lvl 20 play = 30,000 XP where the DM set that "Class" to give the player a boon each level. To add on, allow player's to be able to create any option like all the options to subclasses • Add double Advantage & Disadvantage options - Some players use this as a hombrew rule, I personally don't but I think the option would be nice to have for those who do • The ability to force override hit die, charges, add spells, add resistances or immunities, etc.Just more freedom to homebrew • The ability to save as homebrew any item you create/edit in your character sheet This would allow item creation to be easier
This is all I could think of at this time of posting, I'm sure this will never be looked at but at least a try
I would like to see many different things happen to the way the site operates.
#1. The ability for the game to auto roll, for additional dice. So if I have an ability, spell, feat, or magic item that adds additional dice to the attack, save, damage etc. (A) The additional dice should be something like a single check box for certain temporary things, such as bardic inspiration, guidance etc. (B) For magic weapons that do...lets say an additional 1d6 fire damage it should roll that damage automatically when I click the damage button...and be a permanent feature. ((Currently the program will only roll base damage types.))
#2. The ability to look up certain things better, especially in Homebrew...I would like to at the least see the same look up options for example spells as I do the official spells. ((by level, and tags))
#3 The ability to change All official content without having to create a separate work around homebrew option. Because I have many different rules for the different games I run... ((If this is implemented I would like a drop down feature that can apply or revert things on a character by character basis, a single campaign basis, or to all))
#4. The ability for homebrew creations to be able to apply different expanded options, that already exist in other parts of the homebrew creation process. ((Example: creating a feat...the options for this are extremely limited, and do not work the same as the options available for say, creating a races options))
#5 Faster updates of things that change during game play, I have found that HP, abilities and spell uses, etc. Can take a few minutes to filter through, and that is with refreshing the page constantly.
#5(A) First 5 would need to be fixed but afterwards....This is for DM's.... Either there should be a page, folder, or other way of attaching whatever we want from any characters sheets in our campaign to track what they are doing other than opening up each sheet individually to see. Example: So if I want to track all the characters HP in real time or see what their current AC is, I can have it appear on that separate folder. -OR- If I want to see what spells a character has prepared and what slots they have left -OR- If I want to track that limited use ability -OR- what their exhaustion or negative effects are -OR- all of the characters skills and saving throws, or an individual skill.
It should all be filtered to a separate single page or folder that Only a DM can see. Do not make this a scroll up and down thing or if you do, have a little sidebar where DM's can click on say skills and it auto jumps to that section. I am thinking of something that looks like a spread sheet for each thing but auto updates.
