I'd love an integrated virtual tabletop, as long as it can be lean and easy to use (optionally without any 3D stuff). Otherwise I would stick to theater of mind, when playing by voice chat.
it's on their development roadmap. Although I think it should be their No. 1 priority
Different strokes for different folks. I personally don’t ever want a VTT. I think they should prioritize making the Encounter Builder and Combat Tracker work better first as, the way they are, they’re practically useless to me. My point is that everybody wants something, we all just need to be patient.
Not everything I own is carried on my person. Lots of stuff is on my horse. But everything I have gets counted as weight towards encumbrance. That's lame. The functionality of having the character sheet add up my encumbrance is AWESOME, it saves me a lot of time and effort, but, this problem kills that functionality entirely.
You need to set up a simple toggle that says whether its on me or not on me. I make an entry in the Customization Notes to say where its carried, but that doesn't do anything to the encumbrance value reported by the Sheet.
GOOD ENOUGH: A toggle that says "( ) Not Carried", linked to the encumbrance calculator, would completely solve this problem.
BETTER: It could even be a 3-way toggle, so i can say if its on a mount, on me, or not carried at all. That would be even better.
DONE THE RIGHT WAY: Finally, it could be fully integrated with the already-implemented [container] and [movement] flags. Every item ([container], [movement], or neither) in your inventory would have a drop-down menu. That menu would include:
[self]
[not carried]
each [container]-flagged item in your inventory
each [movement]-flagged item in your inventory
Every item (including containers, mounts, vehicles, and everything else) in your inventory would have a default selection based on the following:
all non-[movement]-flagged items default to "self"
all [movement]-flagged items default to "not carried"
If you need to re-assign it, you can, as needed. The weight of any item assigned to a [container]-flagged item gets added to either the "self" category, the "not carried" category, or one of the [movement]-flagged item categories, based on how that [container]-flagged item was assigned. If I have a potion assigned to a [container] "sack", which is in turn assigned to a [container[ "backpack", which is in turn assigned to "self", then the weight of the potion is part of my encumbrance. If I drop the [container] "sack" in the game, then I would change its assignment to "not carried", and its weight, and the weight of the potion, would be removed from my load value.
This could (should) be integrated with a mount load tracker. Horses are not infinitely strong. It could also be integrated with some kind of container load tracker, but that's probably more detail than necessary.
This is a functionality that will realistically save people a lot of time and make DMing easier as well. I know some people just play that encumbrance doesn't matter, but it does to a lot of us. Being forced to make hard choices is part of a good game, and an encumbrance system that actually facilitates that is a real benefit to the community.
I know there's already a weight override function. That's clunky, requires extra work, and doesn't track containers and where you put things. If I use that tool I have to go in and enter an override value for my pack and everything in my pack every time I drop it. That just means I don't use the functionality at all because that's crazy. The way I have described this, it would allow my players to quickly drop enough weight to be able to carry the treasure they found, or the body of their companion, without me having to hassle them for details and math.
Please reply if you read this and give me your thoughts.
ALSO: For the encumbrance tool, either as it is now, or if you use my infinitely better system described above, to work properly, you need to be able to break stacks of items. I don't always have all my rations in my pack. Sometimes, I leave most of them on my mount and just toss a couple in the pack.
they are losing people left and right (I’m one of them) who are tired of waiting and spending triple the money on the same products. The are missing the chance. Gotta strike while the iron is hot!
Are they losing people left and right? I have never heard that before. What evidence do you have to support that claim besides your personal gripe with DnD Beyond?
I'm guessing it's mostly gripe. Because, from what Hasbro, WotC and DDB keeps saying (And I tend to believe them because they have the numbers and their business decisions match), they are doing much better than expected year over year.
I'd like to suggest we add a new condition to the character sheets: Stabilised.
There's a difference between Unconscious and Stabilised, in the former you may not be on 0 hit points - in the latter you are on 0 hit points but not required to make death saving throws, but as soon as you take a hit you go back to requiring death saving throws AND potentially can be critted for an automatic 2 fails, and have to start over making saves again.
Hey ya'll. I love all of the things on the roadmap, but I would love, love, love some added ways to organize my homebrew collection/creations. I know that we have filters, but I find them a little cumbersome to use, and I'd love some grouping.
Ideas to organize could include:
Collapsible headings for the top-level categories (items/monsters, etc.)
Adding/assigning creations to a campaign, where we can view a DM only filtered list
Custom tags/headings that you can group and collapse your view.
Distinguishing NPCs from monsters
Grouping monsters/items by type
Hovering on the column heading offers the ability to filter by type (in addition to the sorting that it can do now)
Not everything I own is carried on my person. Lots of stuff is on my horse. But everything I have gets counted as weight towards encumbrance. That's lame. [shortened for brevity]
This will probably be addressed as part of the inventory management enhancements on their long-term roadmap: https://ddb.ac/feature-roadmap

"Stabilized" probably won't be listed as a condition because... it's not a condition in D&D 5e, just a general state of being described by a particular game rule. The "unconscious" condition is possible regardless of whether you're at 0 HP, as you yourself note. Being at 0 HP but stabilized is just one situation in which you might be unconscious.
An "Add NPC" button in the Campaign screen. Some NPC's only use stats from the monster manual, like a veteran stat block. Instead of having to create a character sheet, it be nice if I could add an NPC with existing stat blocks for adventures. Like Reya Mantelhorn in Descent into Avernus. She uses the veteran stat block, so it be a headache to generate her full blown character sheet. It be really nice to have a dedicated NPC system incase my party adds NPC's into their adventures.
So kinda a system where you hit "Add NPC" type in the name of the character and then choose which stat block (i.e. Veteran, Commoner, Githyanki) and then its generated under its own tab in the Campaign Settings. So if an NPC does join the Party, they will act as a PC in the encounter tab instead of a monster. Not sure if that made sense but it's honestly one of the major things I really want to see in DNDB.
A lot of people (myself included) use the "create a monster" for this functionality. You can use the stat block of your choice, but then add any customization that you desire (like name, or extra ability, etc.).
The only downside is that you can't associate a homebrewed monster with a campaign, so they wouldn't show up the same way. I would love to be able to make that association so they show up together, like how you describe.

Yeah but I’d like to take a lazy way out and assign an NPC with like Veteran stats, name the NPC and have it show up under the party in my campaign screen. I understand the homebrew magic item maker fills some of this, but doesn't allow damage dice and existing properties to be changed. I also understand that items can be customised in the inventory manager, but then they can't be easily duplicated or given to a different character.
Specifically I would like to be able to: make homebrew items, weapons, armour and shields; choose proficiency requirement, either by item and/or specificly by race/class/background; choose weapon type, attack type, damage dice and damage type, and/or AC bonus and armour type; specify range; specify weight; specify cost; choose existing properties, or make and choose homebrew properties; set ability requirements like, but not limited to, strength requirements; add tags. I think that is everything.
Sure I used hyperbole, but I am reading a lot of posts online that people are tired of paying for the same content 2 or 3 times and with the current situation (stay at home orders) people are ready for a VTT right now. It's really not DDB's fault, its more of WOtC wanting to be able to have open book policies. Since they won't wrap the books, the code wouldn't be able to be put into it safely. Also as far as I know DDB isn't a sister company of WOtC meaning that they don't get paid from WOtC so they rely on the very reasonable prices for the digital content. It's an annoyance yeah, but it's not DDB's fault. Maybe they could do something where if you send the receipt of your book, they can give you a discount on the digital version? But until WOtC starts cutting them a paycheck, I don't see the business model changing much any time soon. At least that's from what I've gathered from the DDB YouTube videos. I could be wrong though. But honestly I don't mind paying for the digital items if I use them, and just buying a physical copy if I want to have a book to put on the shelf. I also look at like it's DLC for a video game (even though it's the same). I also pay for convenience. It's much easier to carry around a laptop or iPad or phone than 3 to 4 books at a time. Plus if the money keeps making DDB better, they deserve to get paid for what they do.

What I am saying is that if I am going to use a VTT to play, I am going to buy all of the books from fantasy grounds and nothing more from DDB if there is no table top option and only vague promises of "long term' plans to offer one. I don't have the money to buy the books 3 times. I understand it is a convenience, but if I start buying somewhere else, I'm not coming back.
I also read that DDB's usage has doubled since the corona-virus lockdown, but that doesn't say anything about paying customers (as you can use some features for free). I have been searching a number of online forums and found a large number of people saying the same things. If you want evidence, go look for yourself.

Evidence is the foundation of supporting an argument. Don't make a claim unless you're ready to defend it. I'm not being snippy, you assumed something based on your personal experiences, which is a fallacy. If you're going to claim that DnD Beyond is leaving left and right, be ready to defend that claim. On the internet you can't just say things and expect people to believe you. I'm not being snippy, just don't spread misinformation.

Yeah, um, that's not how arguments work. You provide real evidence yourself if you want to win. In a court of law, the defendant doesn't hand evidence against them to the opposition. This isn't a court of law, but you can't just say something and go tell other people to look it up.
