Being able to add an item called "2nd level spell scroll" isn't very useful. Any plans to update this so one can add actual spell scrolls to the inventory?
Couldn't you add the scroll then go in and customize the scroll to show what spell is on the scroll
Unfortunately if you have multiple spell scrolls of one level, they stack. So if I had, say, a scroll of Cure Wounds and a scroll of Bane, I couldn't name them separately. They would either both be labelled as Bane, Cure Wounds, or as 1st level spell scroll.
Perhaps not the answer you're looking for, but, homebrew them. Though I thought I read something about there were plans for it? I could be wrong though.
I give out scrolls fairly regularly as treasure, so I homebrewed a lot of the common spells prior to starting my last campaign and when a not-so-common scroll is found I homebrew it after the session. I have a pretty good library now of homebrewed spell scrolls.
Short term it's a fair amount of work and copy / paste depending on how you decide to homebrew them, but you only have to do it once per spell so in the long run it works out great.
The thing is DDB doesn't create items. They add items word for word from sourcebooks. Spell scrolls are written exactly as you read the single spell scroll item in the DMG.
But, like I said I thought I read somewhere that there was talk of adding a feature like this. I could easily be wrong though.
I made this suggestion in the Character Sheet Feedback, but I haven't seen any official movement on it. Though I did see a lot of positive feedback around it. In fact, I just added it to the Zendesk to make sure it was captured there separately and could be voted on.
It's actually pretty easy to do this using the Homebrew features. Just create a magic item using the spell scroll template of the appropriate level (e.g., Create a level 1 spell scroll if your spell is level 1), then change the name of the item to "Scroll of <spellname>" and then Add a spell to the item at the bottom. You can just search for the spell and add it directly.
Then add the Homebrew item to your inventory and you're good to go. Clicking on the item on your character sheet will give you the rules for spells scrolls, including the DC and attack for the proper spell level, and then you can click on the 'Spell' section of the item to read the full details of the spell on the scroll.
I give out scrolls frequently to the players in my campaign, and I just add custom items for them, and copy paste the spell details from the internet, and call it "Scroll of X"

Or you could just tell them to stick it under additional equipment and make the scrolls after the session. Keep in mind, the versions I explained do more than just have the name, they actually have the spell attached and can get cast directly from the sheet and everything.

This should be possible to do without homebrewing. It is a very basic function.

Well, here's to hoping this gets fixed.
And BTW. Where do i submit a vote on your suggestion? Not sure I know what Zendesk is.
Here you go.
Thanks
Ran into this same issue Friday night. Annoying only because I now need to go add homebrew. Hope it gets fixed natively.

I actually give some advanced scroll building tips in this thread:

I hope that helps.

cool that you made the guide
but that is so damn convoluted

it's so stupid we don't have this feature

It takes about 1 minute/scroll. 🤷♂️

It is too much.
I want to do that live and continue DM-ing. I can't expect for 4 players to wait for me to script a scroll into existence for a whole minute.
Most things are easy enough to search and add on D&D beyond screen, just scrolls are too generic.
They just need a field that you can customize or search: Spell Title (that you can complete when you add that spell)
For reference: I am a heavily accepting and improvisational type player, I can run an entire campaign with just my imagination.

I usually make them either before the session, or afterwords. Never during.

Yes, therein lies the problem.
I want to be able to track scrolls (of already available spells) at play time live.
I need the speed in the UI, and the UI doesn't offer that.
I also use random loot tables and such, and random shop lists, from Donjon website.
I will get great ideas and options from there, and I can't adapt properly to track the new loot on the current spell scroll system.
Again, all that is needed is a text field that simply states "Spell Name" (preferably searchable).
Now you will have a Spell Scroll of [Spell Name] in a player's bag
