Hooray! I got in to character creator for the first time!! First questions:
1. No forest gnome subrace? That's just standard phb isn't it? 2. Can I add a custom spell? Currently playing with stuff from Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide
1 - All content in the beta is limited to basic rules (srd), so no core rulebooks are available in the beta.
2 - You can create custom spells at this time, but you cannot yet add homebrew to your character. We'll see the two systems merge before final release later this summer.
In the character builder I can set my Race to Half-elf and when it comes to
"Racial Traits +2 Charisma, +1 to Two Other Ability Scores"
I can set the two other ability score in the drop down to Charisma. This lets me have a starting CHA of 19 using a standard Array. Not sure that's working as intended.
Similar problem with Skill proficiency, if I'm creating a character and forget what I chose as a proficiency for my race I need to go back a page or two to check. I could accidentally pick Persuasion twice for example and miss out on a proficiency.
This is fine for players who know what the rules are, however this may impact players who are using this tool for their first character.
Overall, this is fantastic. Is there a backlog item for making Mage Armor affect AC and tracking temporary effects, our should it be doing that automatical? (It's not changing when I cast it and I'm not seeing a ui element on mobile.)
Yeah choosing the same thing twice could be a problem.
Loving the character builder now that its back. Did notice a few problems though when I made a character.
High elves can choose from any cantrip ever not just wizard cantrips. Dragon sorcerers don't get to choose a elemental affinity. Nothing stopped me from putting my Charisma to 25 using just ability score improvements which is supposed to be against the rules.
But aside from these things the character builder was amazing. Going to be so useful!!!
Got an issue with my human wizard. Created at level 1, using the XP option. When I edited to jump to level 5, still says level 1 on the description top left of character sheet. Spells slots and spell choices are stuck at first level.
Can we get a "PHB legal only" switch to toggle on?
By basic rules as written, "Blink Dog" is not a language characters can learn at lvl 1 character creation. Nor to "Telepahy." Telepathy isn't strictly a language. The only way you should be able to get Druidic is by taking levels in Druid, not from the "Language" feature from Humans or the Acolyte background.
can someone else confirm? I could just be sleep deprived.
First off, I just want to say that for a starting point, the character builder and sheet are pretty great. The builder does a pretty guide job of taking you through the process, showing you all the info you can read if you care, and highlighting was is required/actionable. The sheet looks nice and is fairly intuitive.
I believe I've found two issues so far:
AC appears to be including a negative DEX mod when wearing Heavy Armor, when it shouldn't. Specifically, my character has -1 DEX, and is wearing Chain Mail and a Shield. This should provide an AC of 18, but the sheet shows 17. I also tried overriding my DEX to -3, at which point the sheet reported AC 15.
My character sheet shows an extra skill proficiency, and I'm not sure where it's coming from.
Also some suggestions:
It seems very likely to be managing the Attacks, Spells, and Limited Use tiles all together during combat, whereas Description, Notes, and to some extent Features won't be referenced as often. I think it would be worth reordering these tiles to streamline combat, or at least give the user the option to reorder them how they prefer.
Hit Dice are tuck away in the Short Rest window, but will always result in healing. I think it would be very useful to either have an Healing input field in the Short Rest box, or an option to expend Hit Dice from the Hit Points window.
I don't see anywhere that shows Resistances to different damage types, except buried inside the description of whichever feature or item that grants it. I think this would be very useful to have collected in one place (possibly the Hit Points window?)Edit: Found this in the Defenses window. It's not very obvious that Defenses, Speed, and Senses are expandable. Perhaps give them an outline like Hit Points has?
Definitely looking forward to using this tool (can't wait to be able to use Homebrew/non-SRD content in character sheets).
I'm guessing this is because the system has added Thaumaturgy in the background, taking one away from the three cantrips I should have and not allowing any other cantrips to be added beyond the first two.
I generated a random level 8 character, and it was given multiclass levels in rogue, paladin, and sorceror despite not meeting anything of those prerequisites.

When you edit, on the class page, change the level for the wizard in the drop down - until thats changed it wont update. This way you could choose to multiclass, etc.

We definitely have to do a "validation" pass. We haven't done that yet, so players will have to rely on "table enforcement."
Even when we do, we'll have to be careful to make all the validation either "hard" or "soft" or "none" since a DM can allow really anything in her own game.
We'll certainly get this in place over time - thanks for the feedback!
Ok, this is really nice, but can we please like. Pay for content already? I really can't use this without feats in there. I mean. it's fine for a base campaign. But the lack of Tabaxis and feats realllly makes this annoying. Also, where's the custom feats?
Goliath racial Athletics proficiency isn't being added on character sheets. Tested with a step-by-step Barbarian and a quick build wizard, both characters did not have proficiency applied to athletics.
Cheers!

The monk has the wrong Hit Die in the builder it's a d6 instead of a d8

Wary the wizard who focuses on homebrew, for he can create nightmares that you wouldn't even dream of

Some issues I've noticed ...
I've tried recreating a character I've made on paper to test the accuracy ( A dragonborn monk) and some issues came up
all in all, it's a good start and granted it's only been a few hours I hope to see things continue to be worked on
not sure if this has been added in yet, but when i use the human variant, the only feat options are grappler and svirfneblin magic
D'oh. Too enthusiastic to read through thoroughly....
Proficiency bonus isn't applying to attack rolls and spellcasting modifier.
Fighting style is also not applied.
