I love how there's this assumption among certain people who dislike DDB that there are only like three of us who actually use it and we are obviously all brand new to the game, but the vast majority of long-time players will never adopt new approaches. Someone made a comment on Matt Colville's subreddit the other day about people who use LCD screens as battlemats, this really holier-than-thou kind of statement that "us old schoolers would never use such a set up," and someone piped up, "well, actually, I've been playing for 25 years and I use this exact kind of set up. It's great!" or something to that effect.
I think we'd all do well to remind ourselves that not everyone thinks the same way we do and not all the people who think differently are our enemies.

I've said a few times in these various discussions, but it only seems like a large number of people are complaining because those people are more compelled to chime in. When people enjoy a thing, they usually think of other discussions to have related to the thing, but rarely "Hey guys I just wanna say great job! I'm very happy and I just wanted you to know that."
...it only seems like a large number of people are complaining because those people are more compelled to chime in.
And what I find interesting is that it doesn't seem like a large number of people are complaining. I'm on this forum at least a few hours most days, and there are very few complaints among the posts.
So, has the Critical Role given an different coupon code yet? I already used the Beginnings one on my PHB, and I want to get another one so I can get my DMG at a discounted price.

It is unlikely they will give a different coupon code. It would not be a good business plan to give $10 off every week/month/episode.

You don't OWN your books on DDB: WotC can change them any time. What do you think will happen when OneD&D comes out?

yeah, I know, but I still would like a different coupon code. It doesn't hurt to ask.
ok, so this last critical role didn't have a coupon code & when trying to use the beginnings one, it says expired vs already used. Maybe they're about to put out another coupon code!!!!
I'm sure it's been mentioned but .. it would be nice to have something where if you bothered to buy the physical book you could somehow prove it and at least get a discount on the digital copy here.
If this is a thing somehow and I don't know about it let me know :D

However, i really do hope they come up with a giftcard option.
Yep, I'm also hoping for the giftcard thing--if nothing else because I'd like to be able to support my LGS and still get the content on DDB without buying a physical book I don't need.

There is a whole thread about this. It's now kind of annoying that DDB doesn't do more to educate prospective consumers to avoid this, so... here goes:
D&D Beyond is not owned by Wizards of the Coast.
D&D Beyond is owned by Curse, which is owned by Twitch, which is owned by Amazon.
D&D Beyond (aka Curse/Twitch/Amazon) did not sell you the physical books - Wizards of the Coast did.
D&D Beyond (aka Curse/Twitch/Amazon) has to pay a licencing fee to WotC for the rights to resell their content in a new format (this web site), just like all the other legitimate web sites like Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds.
For these reasons, you cannot get a free/discounted copy of the book here, because what you paid for was a physical book from WotC, not a digital format from D&D Beyond, just like when you buy the physical copy of a novel you don't get the digital/audio version for free/discounted.

Because I already own all the books and therefor feel no inclination or funds to, in essence, buy them all again but I would like a good character builder, is there a way to pay to just unlock all options for the character builder but not actually buy the digital books?

You can buy the spells, races, subclasses, backgrounds, and--if you want them--monsters and magic items from each book individually, for less than the cost of that book. If you do and later decide to upgrade to the full books, you will receive a discount equal to the amount spent.

So checked out the app and it's very cool, however, I already physically own and buy all the books, why isn't there a digital code or proof of purchase option to unlock content? Paying more for digital copies of the same content is a massive redundancy.

Good luck getting long time players to use the digital platform then.

I just want to tell everyone "happy gaming" and actually mean it. Whatever your game is, just have fun with it, it is after all, just a game.

The Beginnings code was a special offer just for the first month of the new series of Critical Role.
