If asking about unlocks on D&D Beyond, if you buy the physical and bundle direct through D&D Beyond or WotC you get the digital discounted to $10.
If asking about buying physical in other ways and getting it unlocked on here for discount or free - no, and that will never happen.

Well, it did. Dragon of Icespire Peak Starter Set came with a code in the box to redeem the digital adventure for free on dndbeyond, and it came in every retail box, no matter where you got it from. But yeah, it's been a long time since that happened.
but it should. they can easy pace a code inside the hardcover and seal the book.
It has been discussed and explained to death repeatedly, in this very thread, why that is not a viable solution.

So I was just wondering why the maps from Dragon Delve don't carry over into the MAPS toolset when purchased? Seems like a huge "Swing and a Miss" moment...

They should, if you purchased them. If you're sharing someone else's copy, it does not. Campaign Sharing does not apply to Maps.
Great post! Very clear and thorough. Yet another example of millionaires saying "it would be expensive and difficult for us to do the right thing, so you non-millionaires will have to foot the bill"

What are you talking about? What makes you think Lamoon is a millionaire? Are you just here to ask for free stuff?
I'm guessing that mycroft73218 is referring to WizBro as the millionaires. The only time I've been a millionaire is when I've played a specific NPC when DMing 😄 People have been asking for bundles for ages. The company has now done that. It sucks for people like me that already had the books and had to pay twice, but that was because I bought them years before they started bundling them together and before WizBro took over D&D Beyond from Fandom. The employees of that company deserved to be paid for the work they put into making the physical - digital.

The code wasnt included in the german version of the box I beleive. And I heard there was a lot of trouble at FLGs with people tearing into boxes and for Beyond with codes missing from boxes. So maybe they decided it wasnt worth the trouble.
but it should. they can easy pace a code inside the hardcover and seal the book.
Sealed books cause a downturn in physical sales as being able to flip through a book is a key motivator (sauce—having spoke to multiple LGS owners)
So have a display copy then
Display copies take up shelf space, which is a premium in LGS. They might have at most 2-3 copies of each book on a shelf, so a display copy represents 30%-50% dead space
Put it behind the counter then
People aren't going to queue up to ask for a display copy, flip through it, then hand it back. And even if they are, this wastes staff time, increases queue times, and is generally a net negative to the whole experience both ends.
Physical codes in TTRPG books are generally not a viable solution, which is why they're so rare. Almost every publisher does a combined direct purchase model—buy the physical book from them directly and get the digital free or discounted.

Let the store do it through a portal at time of sale.
Fraught with danger when people do it wrong, or forget to do it, or redeem them themselves.
I understand the "why don't you do X" because "reasons" that have been repeated over and over here but the original post was 5 years ago. I have to say, it just sounds like excuses at this point. Surly we have the technology and big brains to have figured this out by now. Even if it's not perfect, something that closes the gap between physical/digital with some sort of proof of purchase would be better than nothing.
Even though it was 5 years ago, a lot of the points unfortunately still stand.
In that time though, we now have Digital / Physical Bundles for those that are interested in having both formats so some progress has been made. It does nothing for folks like me that already had the Physical Books before these bundles came out, but it is what it is.
I think the big problem despite the 'technology and big brains', is that D&D Beyond was not originally owned by WotC. Since the acquisition, it would be a humungous, expensive and potentially pointless endeavour for WotC to pursue.

It has been figured out thought; WotC is doing the industry standard for a hybrid digital/physical sales model—a standard I believe that was set by Paizo with pathfinder, although I could be wrong—first party sales with combined digital + physical offering. There hasn't been any scalably successful proof of purchasing method which is why it has been largely abandoned. The The most recent such attempt I can remember was Cortex Prime, released via Kickstarter by Fandom (the company who previously owned DDB). Early runs I believe in the US only featured a scratch-reveal code in the physical book that could be redeemed for a digital copy. However that release wasn't very successful with 2 out of the 3 planned products release. Cortex was later acquired by Dire Wolf Publishing.

The digital books are mostly for me to share with my players. And also to get those character options in the character builder.

Which causes people at stores to tear open the seals to get the codes.

This is a solved problem, it just happens that some people don't like the solution. That doesn't change anything though.
