My wife went to the Marketplace, bought the Player’s Handbook. We’re both trying to get our characters set with feats and all that, so fine, need to buy the digital even though we already have the hard cover. She buys it, and it’s saying that’s the pre-order for September. No, we’re needing it now please. Can’t get it now. I’d like to buy this car, what do you mean the engine won’t be in until September? How does she get the book now so we can access the feats and stuff? I was able to get the Xanathar’s.
while I’m here, why can’t we both share it? We’re in the same house, same bank account, just her iPad and my iPad with our respective characters.

Your wife bought the digital 2024 rules that will be releasing in September. It sounds like you already have the hard copy of the 2014 rules. You will want to submit a ticket to member services.
EDIT: Also, you can share it. If you subscribe at the Master level, you can share any of your purchases with those in your campaigns.
There is NO mention in the Marketplace that it’s a pre-order. I even checked, went through the process, says select here to pay the $29.99 and the Apple Pay prompt comes up. At NO point does it say it’s pre-order, and it usually does PRIOR to this point. Lastly, and you can go not help others now, if I am using the Beyond, NOW, why would I order something and wait months? My original car analogy stands, you may go.
I see this page for the 2024 Player's Handbook digital copy in the Marketplace. It mentions pre-order 3x and shows the release date in September. Are you saying your wife placed this order from some other link in the DnDBeyond website?
[REDACTED] There was nothing noting a pre-order, and it’s not allowing a refund. I am asking how to get it to work now, have the previous version available for use and it can update later perhaps. If they were offering say a new module but it won’t be available for a couple of months, I can see it being shown, but please clearly note it is a pre-order. The main staple of the app and D&D in general, such as the Player’s Handbook, which I would guess is 90% at least the first time users of the app would get first, and it’s not available?
Then there’s the actual having to re-buy the digital copy in general, especially when we already have the hard cover. Spent $50, and need to pay again? And twice if we both want it on our respective iPads? Oh, but if we subscribe… so that’s paying on an installment plan what I already bought. A very poor business model.
So, since I’m obviously mistaken in my analysis, I come here to see if there is a solution. In the very least perhaps enough people talking about this might sway a decision or two. Instead I get a snark non-answer, and yours which I do appreciate, thank you. I’ll keep observing the responses on this thread, until then I’m going to suggest to my wife to go to Apple Pay and dispute the charge, then talk to my GM to pencil in our stats without bothering with the app at all. Wow, old school, whodathunk.
Second, and I checked myself, there is NO mention in the Marketplace that it’s a pre-order. I even checked, went through the process, says select here to pay the $29.99 and the Apple Pay prompt comes up. At NO point does it say it’s pre-order, and it usually does PRIOR to this point.
You go to the marketplace, the first banner says "pre-order the 2024 rulebooks". Where it shows you the PH right below, it says "pre-order" in the top left. It's also offering you other pre-order bundles to the left and right. Scroll down slightly more: "Player's Handbook/pre-order"
Click through to the PH page, it says pre-order at the top of the product page. The add to cart button says "pre-order now"
Now, maybe it's displaying differently since you already pre-ordered. I can't say.
The 2014 PHB and the 2024 PHB are two different products - different (albeit compatible) rulesets. Ordering one doesn't entitle you to the other.
The 2024 PHB is due for release in September, and is currently on pre-order. You have to click on the red button that says "Pre-Order Now" to purchase it:
If it was purchased by mistake, I'd suggest contacting customer support for a refund.
If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
There's a lot of unnecessary back-and-forth in this thread.
Whether it is clearly labeled or not is apparently up for debate, but also not pertinent to your needs.
You need the digital Player's Handbook ruleset to use now, to match the physical copy of the book you have currently. Somehow instead of ordering the 2014 ruleset (which are available for use now and match your physical copy), the as-of-yet unreleased 2024 Players Handbook digital version was pre-ordered (it is not available until it releases in September).
As this was a mistake/accident/whatever, if you want the digital version of the 2014 Player's Handbook now I would recommend contacting support to very clearly explain the situation and request a refund for the 2024 Player's Handbook pre-order, and then use that to purchase the 2014 digital Player's Handbook.
As mentioned before, if your wife has a Master Tier subscription, she can share her purchase with you in whatever campaign you are playing in and you will be able to access all aspects of the Player's Handbook (and any other sourcebooks/adventures/etc purchased digitally through D&D Beyond).
Also to note, if you purchase the physical version of the 2014 Player's Handbook through D&D Beyond (currently listed at $30), you can bundle and get both the digital and physical versions for an extra $10. I'm not sure where it was purchased for $50, but you can only get the physical+digital bundles if you purchase through D&D Beyond.
TLDR a mistake/error occurred, so contact support to get a refund if you want to purchase the 2014 Player's Handbook digital version to match your physical copy. Get a Mater Tier subscription to share purchased content in campaigns.

You say your wife went to the Marketplace, but later start talking about the app. This is contradictory information as you cannot access the D&D Beyond marketplace through the app. Instead purchases are done directly through selecting a book with the purchase choice being passed to either Apple or Google.
If your wife purchased a pre-order, that would be through the D&D Beyond marketplace (which can be accessed via the mobile site, not the app)
The Dndbeyond app? It's not available on the app currently. I don't think pre-orders can be bought through the app, only current books.
If you've bought it through some other intermediary (somehow, I'm not sure if there something like that), then I can't answer that, but the issue would be with them. It's possible if it was done through something else, for example Roll20, that she didn't buy it on Dndbeyond.

Submit a support ticket to customer support. As others have stated, it appears your wife bought the pre-order for the 2024 PHB instead of the 2014 PHB by mistake. Without screenshots of the shopping cart or purchase receipt, none of us can provide anything more definitive.
Sharing purchased content between accounts is only possible with a master tier subscription. If you would use a single account for your household, then both of you would be able to access to materials, though this is a grey area of the Terms & Conditions about sharing account information but I would argue a single household is a single account. You would still have to deal with the limitations of a single account.
Regarding the purchase the digital product in addition to the book you've already purchased, until WotC purchased Dndbeyond they literally were 2 different companies selling in different mediums. Since the purchase they have rolled out bundles where you can purchase the physical copy and the digital copy at the same time and the digital is discounted to only $10. This bundle has only been rolled out to the Dndbeyond marketplace or the WotC online store. There's been plenty of debate on wanting to expand this program through other purchase options such as local game stores. I have been a vocal proponent of WotC leveraging preferred point of sale providers to their local game store affiliates, especially the ones that were signed up for the Early Access Program. Considering the steps required for a store to join the Wizards Play Network, having a preferred POS provider as a requirement would have been the perfect opportunity to roll out bundles to something other than the in house, online stores.
I would also encourage anyone to give serious consideration before spending money in the Dndbeyond app considering it is still in Beta. As long as the Mobile Beta Testing Bugs & Support does not says Discontinued, I will still consider the app to be in the Beta phase of development and would not chance spending money through a method that is not full release.
I would also encourage anyone spending any money on anything to give your purchases the necessary research to know exactly what you're spending your money on. We've all made mistakes when buying something on impulse. If nothing can be done about this, consider it a $29.99 learning experience instead of a $2,000 fridge that is 2 inches too tall or god forbid, a $70,000 Cybertruck.
I'm not spending five minutes going through your...discussion. However, skimming through the video, it seems the problem is clearer.
You said it was a preorder, that book you pointed out is not on preorder. It's the old PHB. Where you got that it told you was on pre-order I don't know. However, that one isn't, and it's been really misleading the entire discussion. When you buy on the app, it has to go through Apple, then to WotC. I don't know why, but it takes several days for it to complete the process. It should change to look something like this in the next few days:
It'll say "Download" in green instead of "Open Book" in blue (presumably, I'm on Android rather than Apple). It's a lot quicker if you buy through the website, it's instantaneous and it's easier to resolve if anything goes wrong.

It's been over a week, still not showing as download or open. And I'm not going through the purchase until this is resolved. I would be happy to buy the older version, neither of us has a problem with that. Annoyed at the lack of business savvy on their part, but that's the reality. I just want it to work, to get the characters going. I plunked down for Xander's, so I get it, just please make it so I can download it today.
My wife went through the iPad app, the Apple Pay went through, we can see the charge through the Apple Pay, but there is no download or open. She looked on her own and she found that it's only being offered as a pre-order. We're only using the D&D Beyond app, not the Roll 20.
Have you tried to have your wife log onto the website and see if the entitlements are synced? Once she is logged in, navigate to the Account page (second from the top when you hover over your name and avatar on the upper right corner of the page). Then once there, navigate to the Licenses tab and see that your purchase synced correctly. I haven't had it happen in a very long time, but once upon a time, purchases would sometimes get snagged there and the fix was to manually click a button to sync the purchase to the account.
Funny you should mention that. I already have a case with them. Less than an hour ago they sent an automated email, "Sorry for the delay! We're currently experiencing a larger than expected contact volume, which is resulting in longer turnaround times in answering tickets."
The original point that I have is that my wife purchased the Player's Handbook, there was and still is no notice that it's a pre-order, so we still don't have it. If I select that now it's going to be the pre-order even though there is no labels, as the others have shown on the website it's being listed as a pre-order so nothing has changed.
As to bundling through the app, I already puchased all three books from the local game store, I support the local gamers, granted even if it costs a few bucks more. I could've gone straight Amazon (thanks be to Bezos) as an example, but it's important for them. I am not alone. So no, I did not buy through the app. But again, that's just bad business practices.

It might not work, but it is worth looking at.
I think she went through that process, however I will ask her to try again. Maybe over the past week or however long it's been somewhere it was fixed, I'll cross my fingers.
You've posted that it wasn't a pre-order and then you later posted that it is a pre-order. So take a look at the artwork on the cover of the book. The 2014 has a giant, the 2024 has a dragon. You can view them each at the links posted below. Then you can determine which one it actually is.
The (2014) 5th Edition Player's Handbook can be found here. It is available now. If this is what she purchased there would be some issue on Apple's part. Either it wasn't sent to D&D Beyond or maybe it was sent to a wrong account.

In the meantime, to create your characters you may be able to use the free basic 5th edition rules which can be found here.
