Trying to create a homebrew item to include a table (similar to a bag of tricks) where I could show a number in column 1 and a result in column 2, however I can't figure out how to add a table into the text. Any advice?
the WYSIWYG editor doesn't include a button to add table.
Your best bet is to click the Source Code button on the editor (to the left of the word Paragraph) and then add the table that way. The code you want to add is:
Can I request a table button be added? I think it would be greatly utilized in homebrew creations (alot of items have random effects to be determined by a die roll, and clicking a button is easier than typing out the table formatting, and to someone like myself who doesn't know how you wouldn't have to tell them every time they asked)
You can actually do this really easily by finding a table you like, and just highlighting right in the browser window and pasting it directly into the editor window. You don't even have to bother bringing up the code box.

I've tried to use tables in these forums, but it doesn't parse properly. For example, try to change the column width for the first column to be larger than the rest. Or try to change the color of a row/column. It just doesn't work beyond very simple tables, as shown above.
I would still suggest that 'better' table implementation be incorporated into the forums. It would be particularly useful in the PBP forums, where people do all kinds of formatting gymnastics to do what a table would do simply.
I don't know what any of that means. Where do the words or information go? What about how other tables have the alternating colors from grey to white but all this code does is grey?

Hey y'all, I'm Okashido and I'm super into D&D. I like making characters(to the point where I have a doc about 100 pages long filled with character ideas.), am an aspiring actor in college, and also consider myself a storyteller and actor at the table. I enjoy making characters with backstories and watching them play off of other people. I roll with the punches and am a great Improviser. I can DM, but think my strengths lay in being a Player most. Hope we can all have fun and maybe play some games.
I also think having a table button would be useful and much easier to use and format than having people futz around with HTML code that many people don't learn (why would they?).
In the meantime, however, for you future posters also wanting this, after you've added the "I want this too" post you can add the table in one of 2 ways:
1. Find a table elsewhere on the site: like a Bag of Tricks. Highlight the table, right-click it, and select Copy. In your homebrew in the box where you want it to appear just right-click and choose Paste. Change values as necessary, delete the columns/rows as needed, done.
I'd also really like a proper table design function, because like the user Kerrec said it doesn't work very well beyond simple ones. At least not in my experience.
Click and hold the mouse button and drag over it, then release the button.
Just adding to this, as there is a slight trick to getting the table to actually copy. The trick I found with this (when using the bag of tricks item) is to highlight the text above AND below the table. The first time I did this while only highlighting the text IN the table, all I got was a line of text with no table whatsoever. The second time, after having the highlighted area go above AND below the table, it worked. It just doesn't seem to copy the formatting unless you overshoot the start and end of the text to highlight, and then just get rid of the extra junk.
Hmm... Let's see if this works. If it does I'll edit in the code used.
Name
Rarity
Description
Sharpened Weapon
Uncommon
Weapons imbued with this enchantment gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls and damage rolls.
Burning Weapon
Uncommon
Weapons imbued with this enchantment deal an extra 1d6 fire damage on a hit.
Blessed Weapon
Rare
Weapons imbued with this enchantment deal an extra 1d6 radiant damage on a hit.
It looked great in the edit box but after posted it forces a table style whether you want it to or not so it removed things like borders and spacing. I don't know if this is a forum thing. Here's the HTML used anyway.

then click the OK button on the source pop-up and you should see your table, like this:

Thanks -- I ended up thinking afterwords and tried inserting a table in MS Word, then copied/pasted it into the homebrew item and it worked.

Bumping this because I want this table functionality too and it's obviously still not been implemented.

Is there a way to delete an existing table in an editor?

I agree that they should most definitely add this bottom. Glad you asked to cause I needed it.

If you have Microsoft Excel, make the table there and then just copy and paste the table into the description.

how do you highlight the table?

Very usefull thread. Question: Is it possible to make one of the columns larger than the rest? Like having
