No more UA, but guys, we get containers!!!! How ******* exciting to be able to put shit in bags. Who gives a flying **** about containers?? DDB must have lost their contract since Wizards is staring their own digital platform. Sucks to suck DDB, I guess your time is running out. It was fun while it lasted.
Huge shame, all my players really appreciated the UA content and having to make all that stuff via homebrew is going to eat up a lot of my time.
But will it? Honestly making something like a Subclass via Homebrew takes a half hour. I don't really buy the "Development resources" argument, and I do have a background in web programming.and database management.
Oh, with your background in web programming and database management it only takes 30 minutes?? That must means it takes everyone that long, cause we all have your background, right? You're an everyman, so you represent the whole group. The homebrew tool is a shitshow and the last time I used it, it took some time to figure out how to make it make sense and work properly, just to get started.
Hopefully this means that, at some point in the future, D&D Beyond will return to supporting Unearthed Arcana content once the "Features System" is in place. The Features System should make it easier in implement that Unearthed Arcana content. Best of luck guys, keep up the good work.
It's interesting to me they are ok with releasing unfinished and broken official features but are stuck on making the UA perfect by coding new systems. For example the inventory update mentioned has broken character sheets that used custom values or notes on items and they also don't have it finished (obviously they are working on it more). Hopefully DDB can at least recover what they broke with this update.
If they are asking us to make UA with the homebrew tools what is stopping them from using the same tools to make a semi-functional UA. Even if some of the features end up as just text blocks on our character sheets. People in this thread who are in support of this are even talking about how it shouldn't take to long for a DM to homebrew it. If it won't take long for us to do why would it take so much time for people who make and use these tools as their job? Maybe they don't need two hosts to do a repetitive dev update with no new info and one could do the occasional UA when it comes out using said tools? That's just an example I obviously don't know how feasible that is.
There are even volunteers in this thread. Not one person at DDB likes to use UA and will be homebrewing some/all of it anyway? Couldn't they then push that "homebrew" made by their staff live or grab a copy from one of said volunteers? This feels like pure laziness disguised by an imagined need to develop new systems for UA and an attempt at a softened blow by referencing the inventory update in the same post.
I don't know who thought they had to design new systems for UA instead of implementing it as best as possible with the tools available (like we have been told to and will be doing from now on). They clearly don't see perfection as a necessity for other features they push live to the site (including paid content) so this feels like a copout. I don't understand why people would expect UA to be perfect or even the need for new systems when we know it likely will not be it's final form. For those unsure they have stated their tools are pretty much the same as the homebrew ones with a few extras so they are able to do this in their current setup.
As stated by others, I also don't understand why the currently available UA has to come down early (but at least the official versions aren't far off).
Before someone jumps on me for being entitled, or a "pennypinching cheapskate" as I see has happened above - I've purchased nearly everything on this site (most of it NOT on sale) with the exception of the blacksmith and pigment packs and encouraged my players to subscribe for more characters instead of me banking them. I've also dumped probably hundreds of hours (over the course of a year and some odd months) into creating and updating custom CSS for the site and made it available to others. I'm not afraid of doing more work just disappointed that I now have to.
It sucks for those for which UA is an integral part of their games - completely understand the dissatisfaction there.
That said, the fact is this means there will be more attention diverted to new tools and upgrading what is already there (Devotion Paladin has been out since the site began - still can't select a Sacred Weapon and have to homebrew the correct modifiers onto a custom weapon as a fix-around. Not a moan, just one example)
Benefits will hopefully include:
New books getting implemented faster which is a big reason why upgrading takes so long; there's too much to update with new releases and, by the time bugs have been sorted, the new book is already upon them.
Upgrading the current systems on the website, such as the Devotion Paladin example I mentioned.
More time to dedicate to existing tools like the Combat Tracker (ABSOLUTE YES - I need trackable monster Spell Slots and abilities as a DM)
Implementing long requested features like Containers and, probably the most popular thing, the VTT that I continuously see people post in the forums about.
This is very much a positive step for me personally. Can't wait to see the new upgrades roll in.

I can definitely see this being a positive change moving forward and greatly appreciate your transparency. Is there going to be a timeline detailing the release of new features you’re all working on which will be updated? I think that would go a long way to ease any discontent created by this decision and announcement.

A roadmap or Trello board? Lmao no. Their philosophy is they can't let us down if they keep us in the dark.
I don't have any objections, but a month from now, DDB will be drowned in requests by new users to have UA on the site.
Probably not more than posts about why they don't get a rebate on their DDB purchases since they already own a physical copy of a book, and we seem to be able to put up with that too.

Realistically This does not save much time as new UA should not take that long to implement. The overall time savings would be minimal between UA releases, it's not like new UA is coming out every couple of weeks. If it gets things fixed which have been broken since day one I guess I support this decision.

I'm assuming because Wizards has pulled that content from their contract, since Wizards is staring their own digital tool kit and platform.
Source? I’ve seen no such mention here or on enworld, and a quick Google search turns up nothing.

Does this include UA Spells
I wish this was the decision. I suspect that vontrsct issues may be at the core of that decision.

Yes, all UA content will be archived
It is standard practice for D&D Beyond to archive unsupported unearthed arcana. With all UA content becoming unsupported, it will all be archived.

Which is sad but, but at least you're going to get around to sorting out divine soul and aberrant mind right? Right? Rrrrrright?

why remove the UA already in the builder? why not just say no more will be added?
