Yesterday I banged out a PC for a new player..I never really worried about the process before, but I was trying to get it done quickly. Explaining the various options with the player while flipping through various sources... well let's say the the 15th can't get here soon enough.
I've already bought three players handbooks and all of the already released books for fifth edition. I love the idea of d&d beyond, but I am not excited about having to buy all of those books content again in digital format. In fact, I probably won't.

So input all the non-free content as private homebrew.
That being said, has there been any discussion about some sort of "ultimate" package at launch. All available in print/digital releases for a discounted price. Obviously buying the 3 core books for $60 is mandatory, but since I am the DM, I would rather just shell out the cost up front, and work with my groups to have people pitch in what they want since I will be holding the master tier.
Also, any word on annual subscriptions?
I'd also like to add my support to this idea. It'd be awesome to be able to purchase all available content as a bundle for a discount.
Hey All:
So now we have two on the forum interested in some sort of Launch Day Ultimate Package, one more and that's a trend!. If anyone else would be interested in this, please respond to this so we can show interest to the developers. Be honest with yourself though though, this will be a $250+ package, so if you would not be willing to slap down the cash for that, don't sign up. I think if enough (using that term gently because this is of course just the forum) people show interest, they might pitch it to their sales team.
@BadEye: What do you think?
I'd be worried about my wallet catching fire from pulling my credit card out to fast
I guess we'll make at least three people really happy at some point this week then!
The more I think about this model, the more I like it. I'll never stop buying the books, but this format is so handy when running games, even just book marking creatures when running encounters is a huge time saver. So two questions regarding the content.
1. How are you handling errata? Are you incorporating the latest updates on an ongoing basis, or is it a snapshot in time?
2. Since you are not owned by WotC, what about Tome of Beasts and other content from Kobold Press? Many of us mix and match monsters here, and at some point, having a single place to setup content would be great. What are your plans (@BadEye) around high-profile 3rd-party content? I've seen this topic raised a bit in the forums, but I've yet to see any response.

1. Errata will be incorporated as it comes in. As an official source, it's important that we always stay current.
2. No new details on this yet, but I can assure you the demand for this type of content has been heard. We're working on how to make it happen.
Will it be possible to pre-pay for a year's worth of access?
Additionally, will current BETA-users be able to at least print out their character sheet before the launch?
I'm DMing a fairly large group who rotate in and out. Since, they're casual players, I doubt that all of them will be willing to pay the subscription fee for DnDBeyond, it'd be a shame if they lost access to their characters altogether. Or is there some kind of "Apprentice" Tier that is basic access to the basic content for free but with the "ads"? This way my players will at least have access to their character sheets.

Everything that's free now will stay free.

I don't use PS+ (or other Netflix-like game subscription services) because I like to own my games and I don't want to have to pay a monthly fee to access them.
Agreed.

Especially if it can last longer than 1 week, but instead until my paycheck at the end of the month, then it could be 4 people!
We will buy the core books during the opening week, however we will skip the subscriptions. You guys are doing a fantastic job with search ability, linking items, including mouse over {hover} text, its great! Well done.
Come to think of it Apple is updating their iOS software which will allow you to take a picture of documents and the software will create text from the image via OCR making a document with images.... hmmm that also means text will be searchable.

The subscriptions are optional and neither of the two tiers of subscriptions provide any premium content. All the free content you can currently access in this beta version will remain free and you don't need a subscription to access it. Also, you can use any of the premium content you purchase without a paid subscription. The subscription services only offers player and DM tools (and removes ads), the subscriptions do not offer additional content. There is no requirement to purchase a subscription on top of paying for premium content. If you want the premium content, then you decide what you specifically wish to purchase, and the mods have already said users will even have the option just to unlock portions of the premium content (obviously for less than a full book) if they do not want/need a full book.
So, no you are not going to get access to all of the premium content WOTC publishes for just $10 a month, that would be insane on the part of WOTC and the company would go bankrupt doing that. But, yes, you can continue to use DDB for free, and yes, you don't need a subscription to access premium content you choose to purchase, and yes, you can decide to buy as little or as much premium content as you wish.
16 days to go.

That's a lot of time. I have enough time to play once a week or two, but I appreciate the advice.

I would be interested in a ultimate bundle for sure. I bet I will own them all at some point why not get them at a discount.
