The thread sure has grown, so it's understandable. That has been asked more than once, but so far I don't think there's been an answer. Seeing as how their official statement was only about full book pricing and it was only in responses to people that buying individual things and bundles (i.e. race bundles, class bundles, etc.) was mentioned, they haven't stated in full detail what that would look like. So hopefully we will hear soon how the "a la carte" purchasing will work.

One complication is that it seems they will offer cross-book bundles (like "all the magic items"). If you then want to make a "complete the book" purchase, it's not as trivial as buying the rest of an album off iTunes when you already bought a song or two. You have all kinds of magic items, most of which are from the DMG, but a few are from this adventure or that sourcebook. So, "completing this book" purchasing would have to take into account how much of that bundle was from that book as opposed to other books. Nothing too terrible, but also not trivial and yet another thing needing to be built into the system, which is time not spent on something else.

So we have not heard a definitive "No" that I have seen. However, we also haven't heard a definitive "Yes" or anything at all in response yet to "Complete This Book" pricing. So, just have to wait and see.

Not to be a negative Nancy, but buyer beware. If you subscribe/buy-in you are getting the features available at the time. I'm sure Curse have the best of intentions but anything else is not guaranteed and they are not required to provide anything beyond what the product is when you sign up.

It would be akin to signing up to Fantasy Grounds on the promise of Fantasy Grounds Unity (the new version which has been in the works for literally years). I'm guilty of this, so just be aware guys!

You're absolutely right. There is a lot of buyer beware in here. On one hand, while they've said that whenever you buy the materials, anything you buy gets automatically gets upgraded, but there's also no guarantee anything will happen in the future. That being said, I believe that Curse has the best intentions of doing what they can, and as long as it's fiscally viable for them to do so, they'll continue to work on new features, including ones that haven't been thought of yet. I think the reason why I personally have more faith in Curse than others like Roll 20 or Fantasy Grounds is that D&D Beyond is really a platform to push more streaming content for Twitch. It's a great platform, don't get me wrong, but it's no coincidence that it's launching after streaming tabletop games have started to become popular. However, that's a really good thing, because it means that Twitch will be more willing to support them to continue forward, even if it takes longer than they've projected for D&D Beyond to start turning a profit, because the platform provides them with additional sources of revenue outside of the platform itself. Fantasy Grounds and Roll 20 don't have diversified revenue streams, so they have narrower margins for error, and don't have effective enough backing to continue to improve and progress the way that Curse does. That doesn't mean that they won't be able to support it forever without D&D Beyond at least paying for itself, because a company has a responsibility to their investors and employees to turn a profit, so if it ends up hemorrhaging money, they'll stop backing it. Unless, of course, that the revenue drawn in from the streams from D&D Beyond games outweighs the costs of what the system loses, although that would be a super insane scenario, and pretty unlikely. In the end, as long as we, as a community, can continue to support them, I see no reason why they won't continue to improve the platform.

Suggestion #1:

Allow people who own hardcopy to get the digital versions at a reduced price. Amazon receipts ought to cover proof.

Give a discount to people who publish on DMGuild. They are building the hobby.

Hi Darkstrider,

the D&D Beyond app will just be another method of accessing your account and anything you have unlocked on it.

This means that if you buy the PHB and a subscription, you can use that through both the website and via the app.

Not sure if this has been asked and answered but is the app going to be free?

Technically Amazon owns them so...

That being said, could you imagine the uproar if they provided a discount to those that purchased the book on Amazon and not those who bought the book at their local game stores.

Designing good mobile UI can be difficult for presenting complex data.

The UI designers work primarily on the mobile view and then on the desktop view after that, to make sure that we get a great mobile experience from this site. :)
