Andarel bids the others good night and retires to her room, the space and comfort being far superior to the arrangements she had become accustomed to. The best part, was to be on her own, a luxury that would surely be short lived so best she make the most of it tonight. She mves through her normal nightly routine, places her possessions on the nightstand, within easy reach should she need them, disrobes and spreads out in the bed. Wrapping herself in the blankets she falls quickly off to a sound slumber.
The wrapping on her door brings her rapidly to consciousness if a little groggy with it. She relaxes as Soloth identifies himself and indicates he is heading to order breakfast. Yes, that's right, the rifts, chickens, docks... Last night may have been comfortable but there were serious matters at hand and they had a journey ahead of them. Andarel gets herselfmout of bed, uses the wash bucket to splash cold water on herself before finishing dressing, gathering her swords and satchel, then heading downstairs.
"Food coming? Drink too?" She asks as she sits herself down at the table with Soloth. "Long day ahead. Still want travel by wagon? Probably best, pick up more rumors as we travel. Better than rift appearing on ship too."
The waitress nods and guides you to the table before making her way to the bar after saying "We do not serve alcohol in the morning, I am sorry, but there will be juice and water." About ten minutes later and a plate of food containing eggs, bacon, and fruit lands in front of you, followed by a glass of water. The rest of the party slowly makes their way down, joining Soloth at the table, where the same meal lands in front of them.
You hear a voice come from behind you, "Actually you adventurers tend to have really bad hangovers in the morning" it is the barkeep from the night before. "So sorry if you wanted any alcohol." After saying her bit, she continued to the bar and disappeared into the back.
Rweni retires to her room and removes her shield, leaning it against the wall near the bed, the fire-haired goddess emblazoned on the shield’s face. She places the flail upon a nearby table and removes the chain mail, laying it neatly draped over a chair for quick access. She continues and readies herself for evening to get sleep…
The knock at her door somewhat startles her, yet arouses her from her sleep. How long had it been? 5-6 hours, maybe? hearing Soloth’s voice, she groggily calls out, with tired frustration in her voice,, “Did you even sleep?!”
Rweni sits up as she hears Soloth continue knocking in the other doors waking the others. She runs her hand through her hair and gets out of bed. It takes her about an hour after doing some morning stretches, getting dressed and gathering her equipment and putting her hair up in a tight bun before she joins the others downstairs and warmly thanks the barkeep for the food. “First things first. Soloth, how much sleep do you usually need? By Sune’s red hair, unless I was that deep in sleep, I couldn’t have gotten more than five hours of sleep, six tops! On the positive side, if I ever need to get up early for any reason, I know who to speak with.” Rweni shuffles some bacon into her mouth and swallows before speaking. Table manners were something the Temple had taught her, especially for diplomatic events. She washes it down with some water and wiles her mouth with the provided napkin.
”So, we need to get that wagon this morning then. I was handed a seal last night that will provide us the wagon and provisions for about two weeks. We will need to head to the West gate to get them. Anyone know how to handle a team of horses to control the wagon, perchance?”
Rweni let’s a small giggle escape, “No, no. We have a mission and I need to get into that mindset. Though if I do need a full eight hours, I will let you know.” She smiles as she finishes the eggs on her plate. “I can manage a horse if necessary. I imagine a team is similar.” She pauses thoughtfully at Soloth’s comment, “It can be challenging. Especially if you have two strong willed horses who want to do their own thing. If the teamster does not assert themselves then it can be rather difficult to manage a team of horses. I remember this one time a younger teamster took a wagon of goods to another Temple of Sune. He accidentally hooked in the lead horse in the second position. Well, that horse did not at all. I was riding escort on my warhorse. That lead horse was yanking and jerking the reins all which way. I had to maneuver my horse next to that strong willed horse and ride the entire way so that onery horse could think that he was in the middle and thus the lead horse. That poor teamster still had a time, but at least it was more manageable.” Rweni takes in a deep breath and smiles remember a humorous time.
Andarel pops over to the bar to get some fruit juice... The idea that asking for a drink in the morning automatically meant alcohol was a good indication of how people thought in the city. She snacks on the platter in front of her, idling the time away with Soloth in amicable silence until Rweni comes down. Andarel chuckles at the tale, a bit of light heartedness will go a long way. "Never drove a wagon, or horse. Little legs. Rode Pony twice."
"Best kick others, want to get going. Pack some food for them." So saying the goblin heads back to teh rooms of Fen and Trilaxa, her knocking and shouts cary to the table a little muffled, but suggesting of the volume the employed.
Fen bids the group good night and returns to his room, spinning his dagger or doing air tricks when no one is looking. Getting to his room, he sighs.
"What did I get myself into? I hope I won't regret this business. I was looking for some quick money after all..."
With nothing left to do, he takes one good look at the decent inn bed before letting himself fall and sleep.
In the morning:
Hearing the knocks, he slowly opens up his eyes and looks to the window. "The sun isn't even up yet..." he says while sighing and moaning.
"I-I'm coming..." he says. He dresses back in his dark cloak and carefully places his pair of daggers and shortsword in their rightful pockets before getting out of his room. He slowly makes his way to the group and sits down at the table.
"Morning... yawn... if it can be called that. What is everyone up to?"
Although he is quite groggy and tired, the plate of food that is placed before him somewhat helps revigorate him.
Rweni greets Fen as she finishes breakfast. ”I think we’re settled on finding this wizard you mentioned last evening. That and seeing if anyone has ever handled a team of horses to drive a wagon or carriage.” Rweni flashes the magical seal that was handed to her the night before, ”I did get this seal last night. Was told to turn this into the Western Gates of this city to pick up the wagon and our provisions. I left a bit premature yesterday. Guess I had a little bit of vinegar in me to want to get going. I’ll wait to see when everyone else is ready and a group decision is made where we ought to head off to.”
Rweni pushes back from the table and crosses her legs, signifying that she has finished eating. ”Fen, you seemed to have picked up some good information at the docks last night and know your way around this city. Is the Western Gate close by? Any unique shops, such as a General store, along the way? Just in case the provisions given to use by the council are scant.”
Rweni follows Fen towards the general store, ”I only really want to get a healing kit or two. Never know when you’re going to need one. Should not take very long. We can head right over to the Western Gate and turn this seal in for the wagon and provisions.”
((OOC- if affordable, I’d like to just purchase 2 healer’s kits. Let me know how much and I’ll subtract the gold. If too expensive, I’ll forego them)).
Rweni continues to follow Fen towards the Western Gates and turns in the magical seal to the appropriate individual to requisition a wagon and provisions.
As you enter the store the faint smell of tobacco immediately hits your nostrils. A quick look around the shop would show you that there are five other people in here. One is an older gentleman, sitting at the counter with a pipe in his mouth reading the newspaper. Three appear to be other customers looking at some of the non-perishable items. The fifth person looks like a much younger version of the gentleman at the counter, he is stocking shelves. A quick look around the shop for kits, shows that they are locked up behind the counter.
"What can I help you wit" The old man asks, looking up from the paper. You inform him that you are looking for healers kits, two of them. The man nods, and pulls out a ledger, quickly going through it before nodding and saying "Ten gold for two of hem. If you be one of hem adventurers, you might need a map, can sell you one of those for three silver, one gold if you want the case included."
”I believe that is fair enough.” Rweni was not one to haggle and pay fair market prices. Rweni pulls out a small pouch and counts out the 11 gold and 3 silver the merchant asked for. She takes the two healing kits filled with bandages, salves and other medical supplies good for stabilizing an individual if necessary and secures them in her pack. She takes the map as well and unfurls it across the counter. ”Help me out here. This is where we currently are, Shadowbay. Are you familiar with these lands outside of the city? We are trying to get to the Volstand Mountain Range. Do you know if the roads are well traveled in that direction and about how many days travel do you think?”
Rweni does not mean to put the merchant on the spot; however, he did sell her a map. Perhaps she can glean some information from him. Otherwise, maybe the guards at the Western Gate might have more useful information. Rweni looks out the door knowing she does not want to keep the rest of the party waiting. They do need to get going.
He counts out the gold and silver you handed to him, before unlocking the case containing the healers kits. Taking two out he sets them on the counter in front of you before grabbing a tube. He opens the tube, and slides out a large parchment, and places it and a much sturdier looking tube down next to the supplies. "I know a bit, use to be an adventurer like yourself till I took an arrow to the knee." He chuckles a bit, before continuing. He begins to traces roads along the map "There are a lot of routes that would take you there, each varying in time, and danger. The fastest route would have you going through the forsaken marshes, home to mutated trolls, while the slowest route, the greatest danger you would encounter is your wagon breaking. It's a road that leads to the capital of Udan, and is constantly patrolled. There are many towns and cities along this road as well. The route that is the fastest, with the least amount of danger, will take you through the Canyon of Udan If you choose to take that route be on your guards as there are many monsters there, but on the other end of the canyon should be a town you can stop at, its about a months ride by carriage. But might I ask, why are you going to those accursed mountains?"
To those who are curious the phrase "Used to be an adventurer like you/yourself till i took an arrow to the knee" means that he got married. Reasoning: In many cultures, when one proposes to someone, they get on one knee, just like you would if you had taken an arrow to the knee.
"Who hasn't, everyone has heard of the rifts, some lucky enough to see 'em. But sadly, I haven't heard much, other than they are holes in the barriers that separate the planes. Kinda like a planer gate spell."
Andarel bids the others good night and retires to her room, the space and comfort being far superior to the arrangements she had become accustomed to. The best part, was to be on her own, a luxury that would surely be short lived so best she make the most of it tonight.
