Nix Nyhus sat uneasily on her scruffy gray mare taking the lead as usual as the party rides into town in the early evening. Rain has fallen on the party since leaving their campsite earlier that morning having moved along the Parchwood Road at a much slower pace than finer weather would have allowed. The party sees Ty, Nix’s fey companion who had yet to speak to a member of the party directly, take cover from the rain inside Nix's leather hood. The silver-haired pixie chose to stay dry whilst hurling insults at the weather to amuse his companion. The young male sprite had a thing or two to say about Nix’s new companions as well having kept an eye on all of them since their selection in Westruun. The fey prince had inspected each party member covertly whilst they slept or were distracted by other things.
“I promise,” Nix calls out in her usually cheerful tone even if a bit strained by the weather or other troubles, “when we rid the town of this mysterious menace it won’t seem so dreary,” she says her tone apologetically as she smiles over her shoulder at the party leading them through the recently constructed wooden palisades as the rain turns into a drizzle. "Sun Warden Nyhus returns," she then calls loudly as the wooden gates heave open slowly ahead of them.
“It’s Nixie and her pixie boy return to save us all eh?” a hissing female voice comes from a wooden tower facing the gates as the party passes through being allowed entry into the walled city with a chorus of laughter to follow. "What a motley crew you've got there Nyhus," the same snide voice jeers from above.
“Please ignore them,” Nix says with a sigh mostly to Ty whose silver shock of hair pokes out of Nix's hood glaring upward as she continues to ride forward not directing any attention to the insults. “City guards are often those who wanted to be Sun Wardens but were found….” the young ranger pauses as if struggling to find a diplomatic way to phrase her words, “lacking was what my mother always said,” she adds with a shrug as the party moves through the eight foot high gates that are quickly closed behind them once they are inside. “We have a bit of time to clean up before we head to the Lodge to meet the elders I think,” the young woman then says next her tone resolute but wavering slightly. “I can’t think of a more important task than that other than finding out who or what is taking people. We all should be....presentable yes,” she adds turning her face forward as her eyes dart around the party at the nearly empty city streets of Drynna ahead of them. "Please follow me," she adds next continuing to move further down a rough cobblestone street to a cluster of wooden buildings beside a well in a central area before the front gates.

Rain storms always reminds Belkris of his time on the ocean as a sailor. He made no effort to shield himself from the rain. He watched as most of the rain would slide off his feathers leaving him relatively dry. Belkris just chuckles and shakes his head at the guards jeers. "I suppose a change to dryer clothes would be fine before the meeting the elders." he looks at the empty streets. Focus Belkris, find the cause and perhaps be a step closer in finding auntie Althea.
Traveling near the back of the group, Kerri Dunstrom had the cowl of her red cloak pulled up over her head to ward off the rain. Otherwise, she didn't seem to mind the poor weather much. As they moved slowly through the grey day, there wasn't much to catch her attention. So, she ended up focusing on Nyx's sprite companion. She gave him a critical inspection any time he poked his way far enough out of Nyx's hood.
As the group approached the palisades, Kerri couldn't help but grin slightly at the contrast of the "Sun Warden" title and the dull drizzle of rain. Any taunts, jeers, or responses were unnoticed. She simply spent her time examining the wooden gates and defenses. She catches little of Nyx's instructions, beyond 'presentable'. She turns and makes a few hand motions towards Lancelin.
Doc rides his draft horse at the back of the group. When they enter he looks around at the wooden gates and walls. It's so different from the walled castle he used to stay in. The weather doesn't do him much, as he was used to it before as well.
When nix says they should be presentable he looks at his clothes, might need a change indeed after this weather.

Lancelin turns to face Kerri walking beside him, quickly doing a series of signs of his own as if answering a question. He is leading his chestnut mare by the reins, the cowl of his deep blue cloak covering him from the rain. After their travel along the Parchwood Road he looked forward now to getting under a roof again, hopefully with a warm bath and a hot meal, and a glass of wine even perhaps. Apart from his wet cloak he was already very presentable though, having meticulously and magically been taking care of his appearance each morning.
As they pass the town gate Lancelin frowns as their employer seems to shrug at the blatant insults threwn at her. "This may be none of my business Ms. Nyhus, but if I were you I would feel concerned with the city guard lacking in respect for their superiors. With that attitude are you confident they will carry out your orders when critical? Will they even cooperate with us during our investigation?" He says as he comes up alongside Nix.
"That's my...half sister," Nix explains to Lancelin her ears turning pink with embrassment as she dismounts her gray mare. "I'm not sure how your family works but she's the first born and was passed over for me to join the Wardens," she adds but does not elaborate further. "As for the others they follow orders regardless of their laughter now," she adds curtly with a serious tone and expression.
Flying out from her hood like a fireworks Ty casts a charm upon Nix drying her clothes and short cut hair. He then disappears inside the building which Nix is leading the party.
"Sorry, I am not a leader by any means as I explained before. I've just donned my Warden's cloak and armor a year ago," she adds gesturing at her well made dark green cloak and mahogany colored leathers. "I trust my elders who sent me to collect help. All here seemed worthy," she adds looking over the party. "Please we can rest here. I will answer whatever new or lingering questions you might have," she explains just as a young boy appears taking the reigns of her horse before she moves into the two story wooden structure.
At first it looks like a plain build made of wood but with hefty logs one could look harder and notice the extricate puzzle like detail of its assembly. Carved wooden faces line the poles jutting out from the thatched roof. Horrible faces of people and fearful beasts as if they are set to scare off would be intruders!
"Welcome to the Hall of Wardens," Nix exclaims happily welcoming the party into the warm and dry hall.
The long wooden panel room is lined with shields and banners from floor to ceiling on the long walls. Torches lit the interior against the gloom of the outdoors peeking through the windows as a roaring fire burns in a large fireplace where a spit turns of it's own accord roasting meat.
"My sincere apologies Ms. Nyhus..." Lancelin says, although he is still somewhat concerned about whether the word of a Sun Warden carries much weight with the city guard if they can be openly scorned and laughed at.
Assuming the stable boy takes care of Lancelin's steed too he follows Nix inside the hall of Wardens. "Yes, a very warm welcome." He says with a light chuckle as he glances over the not so welcoming faces carved into the poles jutting out from the thatched roof. The smell of roasting meat made him feel very welcome though. "Will some rooms be made available for us Ms. Nyhus? And perhaps something to eat and drink, and a hot bath?"
Before entering Belkris disrobes is vest cloak and shirt. He bunches them up and twists them to remove as much water as possible. He looks to Nix. "Is there a place to dry our clothes" Then he noticed the roasting meat "Ah grub is always welcome. Thanks for the accommodations"
Kerri quickly steps inside with the others. She takes a moment to survey the interior, intrigued by the shields and banners. She nods in agreement at Lancelin's mention of rooms, though she gives him a slight look of reproach at his inquiry about a hot bath.
Mina enjoys the rain, loves having her skin wet, and takes off her cloak to allow for it. She rides along with the group, not saying a whole lot as the doesn't know them, but is glad she was asked to participate in the figuring out the mystery. It is all she can think about and obviously all of their heads together is much better than just hers! Her thick black hair is drenched and hanging behind her blueskin colored elf ears.
As they head past the gates, she doesn't really pay attention to the exchange between their leader and the watch, who know what they have going on, or what history. As long as they have the same goal. As Nyx talks about being more presentable, she looks down at what she's wearing and then back to Nyx with a questionable look, "What's wrong with what I'm wearing?" she shrugs and follows the rest.
As they walk into the hall, passing all the faces, "Wow, this is really cool! Almost as if they are trying to ward off any spirits just on their own accord!" she sort of dances around the room, taking it all in, waiting for their next instructions.
"Plenty of room here," Nix begins with a smile. "You will be staying with me in my dorm," she says motioning to a far set of doors. "I have six extra bunks in there and I will host the group," she explains. "We can go through there," she adds.
Although the hall is empty of others it seems until Ty appears wandering over the group with a streak of vibrant green as each of the party members feels a gust of warmth and becomes entirely dry!
Whistling softly Ty then settles on Nix's shoulder with a smirk.
"Thank you, Tyro," Nix says to the fey prince who shrugs. "As I said in Westruun we're not sure of who or what is taking the people," she begins again settling into a long table with ample chairs gesturing to the empty chairs around her. "Ty would you mind..." she trails off as servants arrive laden with trays of vegetables as two men go to the spit and remove the leg of mutton roasting there and began to carve it.
Mugs of ale were set by the empty seats awaiting the party to fill them.
"Please everyone, do sit," Nix adds smiling as she takes up her tankard holding it up to Ty first before she drinks after him.

Belkris paused a moment at the new dryness of his clothes and puts them back on. He takes his seat admiring the room then he looks to Nix. "Do you have any leads or perhaps recall any strange event around the time of the first disappearance?"
"Bunkin together? Sounds fun!" Mina walks around the room, drinking in the environment. She isn't used to being indoors, let alone in a place such as this. Truth be told, she was glad they were all staying together. Having her own space would have been a little daunting.
When Ty dries all of their clothes, Mina pouts a bit, but doesn't say anything, then joins the others at the table as they get ready for the feast. Her eyes grow huge at the amount of food laid out in front of them.
After Ty flew past and dried her clothes, Kerri gives him a slight glare for just a moment. Not that she minded really, but she just wasn't sure about the abruptness of it all. It is quickly forgotten, as Nix explains the bunks. She's eager to go see them but when Nix clearly invites them to sit, she decides it will have to wait. Tugging Lancelin's sleeve to assure he sits beside her, she sets her halberd aside then settles into one of the closest chairs. She immediately takes up the mug of ale, drinking just short of half of it in one long gulp. A satisfied smile on her face she sets it back down to focus on the conversation.
Her eyes quickly dart from person to person, trying to watch them as they speak. She remains sitting quietly.
Lancelin frowns briefly at the mention of sharing rooms but then he shrugs and looks at Kerri, making sure she got that too. He nods at the sprite as it dries his wet clothes for him, offering it a quick smile for it's troubles. He takes seat by Kerri, as per usual, taking a mug to taste the ale of this place. "Not bad, not bad at all."He says, putting the mug down. "I suppose we will be briefed on the mission during the meeting with the elders?" He says, looking at Nix, while trying to find the best food on the table.
Mae kept herself wrapped up well during the rainy trip into town, staying in the middle of the group when possible. Rain was not her most favorite thing generally but the thought of a new town to explore and people to meet as well as a mystery to solve made her smile to herself and not mind the poor weather so much. Her face clouded some at the insults and jeers thrown at their benefactor on the way through the gate, finding it quite rude to insult anyone on their way in, but kept quiet for the time being.
Mae was grateful to see the welcoming building, although she too took an extra long moment examining the strange carvings on the wood outside. Once inside she gazed about the room and felt a light blush come to her cheeks from the warmth. She looked a mite nervous at the thought of sharing quarters with everyone in the group, but didn't make a fuss about it either. There was one thing Mae knew though: appearing presentable before others was something she would have no trouble with.
"Yes, I quite agree. What evidence is there with the missing people? Any leads? People to talk to or places to explore?"
"That's just it," Nix begins with a frown gripping the tankard in front of her as Ty suddenly blinks out of view. "They've disappeared from everywhere. All over the city near the Sun Lodge even," she adds her tone and expression showing her worry. "At first it was by the docks near Mooren Lake. A strange fog from the water appears every night and people all over the city disappear. It seems wherever the fog can reach," she adds frowning sipping her tankard again. Nix seems tense here, the young ranger looks visibly agitated more so than she ever was on the trek from Westruun. "The last person to go missing before I left was a fellow Sun Warden which prompted us to action and pressure the elders to seek outside help. He was a fine Warden from one of the older families like mine," she adds gesturing to a banner hanging from the ceiling with a fox on its hind legs clutching a bracer of arrows, Nyhus in a flowery script written beneath it.
There are seven clear banners put in prominence around the Sun Warden hall but twenty-five lesser banners, older banners hung outside the main part of the hall. Nyhus is among the banners of the seven.
"We do not have any more leads," Nix replies shamefaced. "The elders I think are more interested in what you bring to our home to help," she explains to Lancelin. "They can offer insight into the city and those missing however but not the phenomenon itself," she adds looking over the party collecting around the table around her.
Mae's golden hair shimmered in the firelight as she listened to Nix. "Hmm, seems to me we need an audience with the elders and then experience this fog for ourselves. I don't think I have ever heard of this sort of phenomena. What do you all think?"
"That's what I assumed too," Nix replies to Mae and Belkris. "I have been a hunter all my life and never seen such a thing before," she adds. "It leaves no trace whatever who or what it is and only the fog is new to the area coming beyond the Rootgarden Marsh where it's been traced roughly for its origins. The fog creeps in and you can't see your hand in front of your face when the sunsets!" Nix exclaims gesturing to the bare lit shining through the Sun Warden's Hall windows. As the party entered town it had begun to drift lower in the sky. "Well, after everyone sets down their gear, eats their fill, and makes themselves presentable I can take you to the Lodge," she the explains. "We have a couple more hours of daylight and can start our investigations," she says with a curt nod.
