So the gut reaction, given he hasn't taken kindly to the barbarians, is they're overpriced. But I also don't know if that's accurate to the pricing here. Particularly since the barrels are being described as rather nice, which could make even a higher price than normal by the volume more than fair by the quality. ]]

((This thread is for the in-character roleplaying between members of the Three Waters Barbarian Tribe. Other threads will be created for specific adventures.))
The sun stretched a band of gold across the eastern horizon, and cast shadows on the mountain faces to the west. The bright eye of the heavens beheld great green fields, with scattered forests dotting the landscape. A massive herd of cattle stood sleeping, surrounded by the tents, carts, and wagons of the people of the Three Waters Tribe. Steers grunted as they woke from their slumber, many of them starting to feed as soon as their eyes were open. A cool breeze washed over the tall grass, causing the dew droplets to slide down every blade.
While there was no town in sight, a single dirt road wound its way through the plains, and a lone inn stood on its own. The owner, nervous about the tribe of barbarians camped so near his home, stationed a watchman at the front door, a goliath armed with a cudgel. Yet, for all his strength, the goliath knew that if this tribe truly meant those at the inn any harm, he could do very little to stop them. The barbarians of the Three Waters Tribe numbered in the hundreds just in this particular camp. He guessed that, with the other tribes included, they numbered in the thousands, if not tens of thousands, if one counted children, elders, and all. In some ways, the elder barbarians were more frightening than the younger ones, for one did not reach an old age while living such a hard life unless one was truly formidable.
The earliest risers were the home-makers. Those who did not fight, hunt, or herd cattle, but rather did all the other forms of work needed to sustain life. Some made their way to the stream to wash laundry. Others started up the campfires to cook breakfast, or took to sharpening swords, spears, and axes. Following them came those who would handle the hunting, herding, and other, more specialized tasks for the tribe. Many embraced their lovers warmly, whispering, "Good morning," into their ears.
Elders awoke too, making their rounds to ask the tribespeople what they needed, or what trouble they anticipated in the near future. It was these elders who assigned tasks, and even quests, to those capable of carrying them out.
Aurochs would be cool! It could even be a mix of cows, steer, ox and aurochs. They would all get along with each other. As long its ok with DM, I would like it to be a mix. Each breed would have a different advantage to the tribe!
[aurochs as battle mounts don't entirely make sense to me. I think those animals are more skittish than war horses, and thus tend to run away from danger rather than toward it]
[However, someone with good animal handling might be able to train one from a young age]
A large man walks out of a tent. He is bald and has a grey beard but don't let his age fool you, he is very muscular and covered in battle scars. You all recognize him as one of the Elders of the Tribe, Lorkath. He stands in the center of the small tent village, which means he is preparing to address the Tribe.
"I am looking for a hunting party. Our people grow hungry for meat and we will be out of our reserves in a few days. Who will pick up the mantle and hunt for the well-being of our people?"
Ku stands by excitedly waiting for the barrels of ale to be opened when he looks up to see a crowd around Lorkath, He slumps in disappointment, because the ale barrels are untapped, as he marches over to hear what Lorkath has to say. "Hunting Party!?! Ku like meat. Pick me, I like hunts"
Lorkath raises an eyebrow, "Ku, are you the only brave hunter in our camp? This is very disappointing." Lorkath towers even over Ku as he puts a large hand on his shoulder. "We need more than one to get enough food for our people. Who else will step up and take the call of nature and master the elements?"

(I love this math)
[[These are 42 gallon barrels, not kegs. at 2 sp per gallon, the top shelf Dwarven Ale has a slightly higher alcohol content, so 8 gp is the wholesale price and a great deal. However, the 42 gallons of elven "ale" at 3 gp for the entire barrel is due to it's interior quality and low alcohol content. They are giving this stuff away. If both kegs are wholesale priced 11 gp total, then the Watchman Goliath is taking a 4 gp cut. Your insight tells you that he's overcharging but only if you consider he's taking the retail upcharge, which is actually 16 gp for two barrels, if you consider the inferior brew to be worth 8 gp]]
Before leaving the inn, Esseer asks the owner whether or not they sell any spirits.
"Aye, it seems we understand each other now. As a token of goodwill, You can take this case of brandy off our hands. It's not terrible. And. Well that's all I can say about this... 'beverage'."

OOC: oh, whoops, Zapau and Harbek already left. Maybe the official hunting party will catch up with us.
(As the DM for combat I would like to make a slight edit here, for ease of experience and get everyone on the same page, let Zapau and Harbek not leave but be the first to want to go on the hunt. This allows you to not have to run an encounter for yourself and allows for a clearer storyline.)
[[ I'll admit I'm no businessman. So the whole retail vs wholesale is slightly throwing me off. But, if I'm understanding correctly, bad price if we were merchants looking to resell and fair price as normal customers. Right? ]]
Tambor files the barrel exchange in her mind, keeping it in mind if they return to the inn in the evening. Plus, even if brandy wasn't the highest quality beverage, it seemed to at least fulfill Esseer's needs. "Would you want any help with preparing the burial ground?" she asks.
She says to Ku, "I can help with getting these barrels tapped and ready for a triumphant celebration when the hunting party returns. Should be nice to have dancing and jubilation. Think you'll be able to catch a deer? I've got a taste for venison."
[[ @Zelock, I'm guessing the hunt is planned to finish up over the weekend, right? In that case Tambor would pass for now. ]]

"Aye, it seems we understand each other now. As a token of goodwill, You can take this case of brandy off our hands. It's not terrible. And. Well that's all I can say about this... 'beverage'."
"Ah, thank you, your kindness will be remembered!" Esseer says as he lugs the case of brandy out of the inn. Once outside and further away, he examines the case closer as he is curious not only by the possible spirit-attraction strength of the drink for his graveyard but is also intrigued by the odd way the goliath spoke of it, so he looks for anything clearly magical or unorthodox about the brandy.
[I got a 7 on an Investigation or Arcana check, either works since I don't have a bonus to both of them]

Esseer is quite surprised by Tambor's suggestion but is incredibly grateful nonetheless "Why of course you can help me prepare the burial grounds! You know, I have always done it alone in the past as people don't want to get involved with the morbid process, but I'm sure you'll be incredibly useful if we run into any complications, such as any monsters that share the area, since you seem a much better fighter then I! The amount of times I've marked out a burial ground right over the grove of a dryad or above a colony of blood-sucking centipedes is too many to be proud of. Once I have finished examining this case of brandy to make sure it is fit for the process we can start, and hopefully it will be complete by the time the hunting party returns in case they have any corpses to dispose of!'
[If it wasn't clear, Esseer will pass on the hunt alongside Tambor to instead prepare the burial ground]
Thokk just nods as his friends talk about preparing the burial ground "I will join you all after the hunt, I'm late as it is and we'll need some good food to go with this drink."he says beginning to make his way to the center of the village "Apologies for my lateness, I was helping to acquire some alcohol. Am I too late for the hunt?"

(uncork a bottle, smell it, take a taste. It burns with a sweet and sour flavor that resembles flowers, cherries, and lemons. The burn is not smooth and the bouquet is strong. It will get you drunk but the flavor is overpowering and the alcohol taste lingers. All hallmarks of a poorly crafted brandy, but to an untrained palette, it tastes great. No Magic, just poor craftmanship.)

(Bingo, you're not going to make a profit by selling it, and the overcharge is reasonable or within the normal range for a reseller)

[Yeah, I think aurochs would be fine]
[Ok, a mix sounds good.]
