Oh... That's what you meant. The Ancient Dragons are always the most powerful of the sets.
I just feel like it's a somewhat stereotypical fantasy setting, and settings like Ebberon, Wildemount, and Spelljammer are far more interesting to me. And yes, that's what I meant about the dragons.

I do like Eberron and Spelljammer. Never read Wildemount.
Not true. Me is gonna make a Dragonlance comment here, but in the first book, and old, demented red dragon female fights a younger MALE red dragon, and the male is stronger and younger. The female dragon had lost her children in the beginning of the war, so when she heard the Dragon Highlord say, "I will kill all of the children!" She attacks the younger male, and defeats him by slamming him into a cliff at high speed, while also dying herself. This proves that one, dragons' age doesn't make them stronger, just smarter and more cunning. Also, chromatic dragons can do good things. Just like how Metallic Dragons can do horrible things.
I'm not going to argue with you. But if you look at the dragon stat blocks in the MM, they older they are, the more powerful they are. Also, the Dragonlance books seemed boring and somewhat generic to me.
Heresy! lol
Yes! It is HERESY AGAINST D&D!!

Considering that the most dangerous species to ever walk the earth is humanity, I’ma call it a safe bet that the same would hold true for humanoids as a whole in D&D.

Maybe but DnD is very different from earth.
True, but we’re talking about a creature type that includes the breading capacity of Goblins, the aggressive tendencies of Orcs, the semi-religious reverence for war itself held by Hobgoblins, a multigenerational capacity to hold a grudge by Dwarves, the almost pathological racial superiority complex of Elves, a passion to follow whims to the exclusion of all else possessed by Gnomes, and a terrifying amalgamation of those qualities possessed by Humans. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Not to mention, there is a very extensive history of Humanoids defeating all comers, including each other, for thousands of years across a score of campaign settings. Even the gods have restricted us to 9th-level and lower Magic so we don’t break the multiverse... again....
There is one, and only one entity in the whole of D&D that could conceivably defeat the combined efforts of all the humanoid races, across all settings in the Prime Material. And by the time he’s done with the Blood War, and then moved onto the upper planes, when he eventually turns his attention to the prime material, his forces will be depleted, and we’ll just be getting loosened up.
If I were a betting man, and I am, I know where I wanna put my chips. Go ahead and spin that wheel. When the ball stops rolling you can bring me my chips, I’ll be waiting over at the teller’s booth to cash out.

But they would never untie a clever monster (Dragon) could easily pin them against each other then slowly take over in their long life. Luckily they have "a multigenerational capacity to hold a grudge" so if the monster is clever enough they could pin the humans for a long time.
I disagree. Consider that England and France were bitter rivals for centuries, but when the choice was either to work together or learn to sprechen the Deutsch, the worked together.
If the choices are fragment and die, or band together in the exercise of the one aspect in which they all excel, war, I’m pretty sure that they would all fight, at least until their common adversary was defeated. Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, etc would band together out of recognition for the greater good, Goblins would join out of motivated self interest, the Orcs would fight just because, and the Hobgoblins would join the war because war is what they do.
i think a dragon would be smart enough to relies this and react by bribing goblins, tricking humanoid kings to fight, and having agents and cultist infiltrate the government etc. Then they would slowly take cities and nations by getting their most loyal agents to lead or making a crime boss strong enough to rule. Then if they go to war on a smaller scale they have a dragons on their side and other darker gods and their minions.
Considering that average adventuring parties consisting of 5 humanoids kill dragons every single day at gaming tables all across the world... you go right ahead and throw your lot in with the dragons. I’ll be over here on the winning side if you change your mind.

Well.......... How about this. On average, humanoids are the most deadly. In incidents involving gamers, dragons are the best.

okay but they are all in different realms and stuff.
This does depend on the setting. Dragons are a much more unified and formidable force in Eberron where they actually have a society with its own government, various organizations and armies not to mention powerful Magic’s at their disposal. They manipulate the other races from the shadows within their own continent and are locked in a dangerous shadow war with the fiends of the realm. So in Eberron, it’s easer to say the Dragons and Fiends are the true terrors that most lesser races aren’t even aware of on a regular basis. In the Forgotten Realms however, dragons aren’t all that unified.
Also the only problem with using adventurers (those meant to be the exceptions to the common people) as the default for who is the strongest is that technically, other creature types can have exemplary members too.
Ultimately, the creature types who are the most capable and by extension the most dangerous are the ones able and willing to break from the mold that made them. This is the greatest strength of the mortal races, the ability to change and adapt, the ability to face anything regardless of fear or overwhelming force, even death. To have the ambition to become greater then what they started from, to evolve further then what even their creators intended.
So by that logic, Humanoids, sapient Monstrosities, Dragons and Giants are all capable of being truly dangerous.
