Yo! im making a background character for a campaign its a metallic dragonborn path of the giant barb. now while RAW i dont think it does anything when you increase your side besides the spell enlarge/reduce giving a 1d4 to weapons and a breath "weapon" might work. BUT! with the rule of cool someone the size of huge or larger it doesnt make sense for you to still shoot out a 15ft cone/30ft line 5ft wide. how would you guys work it if your dm allowed it or you as a dm allowed it.
i might allow them them to add the range to it and add an extra damage die for each size they are.
so at 5th level if someone uses barb rage or fighter giant use to become large the breath weapon would be 30ft cone/60ftline 15ft wide (5ft on each size or only 10ft if you dont use grid) then 3D10 damage.
i dont think would be super op mainly bc you are using a resource to buff another or maybe just a spell slot. plus it would just be cool asf for your barb or fighter to become huge then the party caster casts enlarge on them for a huge kaiju fight and a 15ft breath weapon would feel as bad as rolling a crit and getting all 1s.
thats fair and using fizbins dragonborns thats 4 uses of it per long rest if they combo it all. At that point id compare it to a 4th maybe a 5th level spell.
Problem with that is when they get to be 11th level and can become Huge it’s gonna be 45’ cone/90’ line doing 5d10 damage.
Path of the Giant doesn't become huge until 14th level. Rune Knight doesn't become huge until level 18.
Personally I'd keep an equivalent of the enlarge/reduce spell and allow for an extra 1d4 added to the already scaling damage when in large form, with 2d4 added in huge form. Scaling the range for large an for huge seems appropriate too, 15/30/45 cone or 30/60/90 line (small or medium/large/huge).
I'd make this a feat though with a prerequisite of having a breath weapon attack, which would also apply to the dragon's breath spell too.
Adding the enlarge/reduce spell could move the threshold to change from large to huge much earlier (level 3 for both Path of the Giant and Rune Knight), but you're looking at all the regular limitations of each subclass using it's ability, plus a limited use breath attack, plus a 2nd level spell slot from someone else in the party. I'd include in the feat that the breath weapon would stack the bonus damage with this feat's bonus damage if the increase in size is from the enlarge/reduce spell. For example:
Yeah, the most I would do is add 1d4/size increase like Mairondil suggests, but I would probably only add 5 ft/10 ft to the AoEs (cone & line respectively). Otherwise when they’re at 14th level+ and can turn Huge all by themselves and the Wiz enlarges them too you’re gonna be lookin’ at 60 ft & 120 ft and that seems a lot to me for the number of times they get to do it. I mean, at those damage levels that’s like several 5th-6th-level spells every day.

Huge = +2d4
Huge + enlarge/reduce = +3d4
i somehow missed the part where you suggested it be a feat and that part im not sure i fully agree with. This is strong to its also fairly rare for it to pop up into a campaign. not to mention the enlarge/reduce plus dragons breath combo you talked about would be rare as well considering youd need at least two casters for it because they both use concentration.
If i was going to make this a feat personally id make it a half feat or give the player a way to increase their size by one on their own once per short rest or PB amount per long rest. maybe increase the damage die to a d6

You do you. I wouldn't consider this on par with regular feats like GWM, SS, Sentinel, or any of the half feats that give a +1 to an ability. With the prerequisite of needing a breath attack, it's pretty limited on who would even benefit. As is, it's pretty niche and I would consider it one of those "Well in my world, bigger dragonborns kick harder" type feats.
Adding the ability to increase your size, or just giving the enlarge portion of the enlarge/reduce spell # of times per whichever rest does get this more on par with average to above average feats. But its still limited to those that have breath attacks.

i think i may go with the enlarge part and i think by not giving it concentration and keeping it to self it might pair well with someone who wants to use dragons breath

I was compounding it with the very high probability that the party’s Wiz has also cast enlarge/reduce on them too.

True. I do think it should stick with a scaling d4 for added damage, not additional d10s.

That’s fair. I was responding to the OP when I wrote the 5d10.

thank you two very much i think you guys made wonderful points and suggestions!
If you have made this and published it what is the name of your feet? I'd be interested to use this myself.
its not a feat yet or anything its just what happens when something (mainly dragonborn) become a size larger
