I am running a D&D campaign that is WW2 themed, it's going to have espionage and Lovecraftian flair to it. I am re flavoring a lot in this new world. It takes place on an alternate earth called SOL 3, where basically magic and classic D&D races are around in WW2 earth. Magic is present but dying because of the advancement of technology, and "exotic" races are becoming rarer and rarer. I have a few ideas for classes for example, the paladin would be a soldier, a cleric could be a medic.
I actually would swap Rogue and Ranger, considering Snipers rely on stealth and high damage output per shot (such as rogues do), where as Recon typically requires good navigational skills, which I feel the Ranger's abilities fit well. Rangers also tend to have large perception scores, so they again fit this roll better than Rogues do.

If you have not read the Darkness Series, you should at least skim over the wiki page. It's basically a really good fantasy WWII with dragons for aircraft, crystals for radio, and so forth. There a fantasy analogue for pretty much every aspect of the war, and the timeline is followed pretty faithfully.

Just some thoughts, and feel free to change it up so it really works for you:
Barbarian - Machine Gunner
Bard - Communications Specialist
Cleric - Medic
Druid - Navigator
Fighter - Rifleman (basic soldier)
Monk - Intel/Support (can run the lines to deliver messages or accompany Machine Gunner for reloading support)
Paladin - Officer
Ranger - Sniper
Rogue - Recon
Wizard, Sorcerer, Warlock - Grenadiers (hard to come up with separate roles for these three)
Bonus: Artificer - Flamethrower (Soldier variant)
Best I can do, good luck.
Thank you for the help!

Great catch.
You could make the artificer a member of a Engineer corp.
