My apologies, I get excited at the thought of new angles to explore in these planar puzzles. In any case, you don't seem like the type to piss someone off to that degree!" Then to Cerlinde, "My thanks, Cerlinde, for your offer to teach me the art of cartography. I'm afraid I don't have much to offer in return, although I do speak a number of languages. Perhaps there might be one you don't know, although you seem very well-studied. If you don't mind me asking, who are your people? Naturally, I'm interested in other cultures or organizations that have similar interests. I imagine we can both do some good work alongside Cassandra, Myk, and the others. Hopefully we can get Amelia and ourselves home, regardless of whether or not she has a reason to be here."
As you walk into the Copper Dragon you see Theran marching across the floor to break up a brawl but when she sees you she changes direction and heads towards you frowning
"You're his friend, talk to him. I've told him twice. I'm not going to tell him again. He's got"
A bolt of fire rockets up from the Dragon's main room towards the high, skylighted ceiling, then with a "pop" explodes into a shower of harmless sparks
"to stop doing that!" she finishes
You spot Malichi at his favorite table. He seems to be having a rather animated conversation . . . with his left hand?
Zensiro, taken aback by the various sources of commotion disrupting the main room, pauses for a moment. "Uhh, sorry about Malichi there, but I can't speak as to what may have gotten into him. Has he been here long? Has he been ... drinking, heavily?"Zensiro takes a few tentative steps toward that favoured table, waiting for any intel from Theran.
"No, nothing like that" and the frown gives way to a smile "I remember when I first learned to cast spells. It's pretty heady stuff. Just see if you can get him to take it down a notch or two!" and with that, she heads off bo break up the brawl at the other end of the Dragon.
At that point Malichi spots you and starts waving enthusiasticly.
"Zensiro! There's someone here I want you to meet!"
Amelia enters, either from a room or from the outside, depending on if the Copper Dragon has rooms. "What in the Nine Hells is going on?" she deadpans.
"Amelia! You gotta see this too! I've been at Myk's most of the day. He's been great, helping through all this. I've been wanting magic. Now I've got it!" he tells you both excitedly "and this, is Tim. He's going to be helping from now on"
Malichi holds up his left hand like it's some sort of miracle. Then you see it. A small black head pokes up from his sleeve, then the slender little body crawls up his hand, entwining around Malichi's fingers. A small black snake, maybe a foot and a half long and as big around as Malichi's thumb. He's black but not like Malichi's featureless black eyes, without reflection or highlights. Tim's little black scales reflect back tiny iridescent sparks of blue and purple.
"Amelia, good to see you! It appears that, aside from the usual fisticuffs over there, our friend Malichi has decided to get himself into trouble with some newfound magical skills. Shall we see what he's up to? Maybe convince him to tone it down a bit? At least he can't possibly have the ability to shrink us, right?"Zensiro winks at Amelia, hoping that his attempt at humour goes over well. He turns to look at Malichi again and his face screws up into an expression one might see on a parent attempting to decide how to deal with their scamp of a child.
Amelia observes the situation. "Huh. And here I was thinking I was the only one who woke up with magic." As you watch, a semi-translucent blade appears in her right hand. She flips it a couple times before simply vanishing it again, as nonchalantly as if she was sheathing a regular dagger. "Anyways. A snake? Named Tim? You're gonna have to elaborate a bit."
"Wow!" Malichi says, momentarily distracted by Amelia's blade work, then recovers "Tim is a familiar. A spirit summoned in an animal form. Actually Tim is my familiar" he says, seeming to realize it for the first time and he beams.
"I just knew I could summon one. I don't know how I knew, I just did, but didn't know what animal form. Myk said to just let it happen and the form would take care of itself. And here is he! I named him for someone I knew when I was a child. Someone very important to me" he looks at Tim "I didn't tell you that? Yes. Well, you should be" then back to Zensiro and Amelia "I can look out through his eyes, even over a distance. It actually makes sense that it's a form even stealthier than I am."
Zensiro puzzles for a moment over what to make of Malichi's new companion. "So it's a snake, but not really a snake? Mystically linked to you somehow? Real snakes are quite lovely creatures, fascinating to observe. It is a pity they often have a sinister reputation. Anyway, I hope you and your Tim take good care of each other. Also, I should mention that before that fracas broke out over there, Theran was heading your way. She seemed rather cross, I believe it was regarding your other, more overt magical expressions. I think the saying would be, 'there's a time and a place for everything', and maybe this is not the place for minor pyrotechnics. Especially this time of day."

"I do own her an apology. It's just that . . ." he says, and raises his hands as if to cast a spell, realizes what he's doing and drops them. "I really do owe her an apology"
Zensiro looks at Malichi with concern on his face. "Are you all right, Malichi? I hope you didn't get too carried away. The allure of magic is considerable, but it's best to think of it as a gift and a responsibility. Or at least that works for me. I think our personalities are rather different, though ..."

"You don't have to worry about me. I'm okay. Just a little overexcited about being able to cast spells. I really think this is going to be very useful. I don't need the disguise hat anymore. I can do that myself! Watch" Malichi begins to chant, tracing patterns in the air. You see his skin color change from blood red to light tan, his horns seem to retract until they disappear into his hair which is turning a medium brown. His eyes change, a rim of white at the lids, spreading inward and irises begin to appear, a deep blue, till finally the black has shrunk to two pupils, till finally he is completely Human looking "What do you think?" he asks Amelia and Zensiro
Zensiro smiles. "Well done, my friend! It seems as though you've got that one down pat." He then gestures toward the ruckus going on elsewhere in the tavern. "I'd recommend discretion in where you cast this spell, lest the rabble you are trying to deceive discover that this handsome, totally normal human is, in fact, Malichi, the magical rogue!"
Amelia looks downright disturbed at the sight of Malichi reshaping himself into a human form. “I’m…not a fan.”
With that, Malichi snaps his fingers and instantly reverts to his normal self. "My apologies" he tells Amelia "I played around with this face and another, quite a bit when a Disguise Hat wound up in my possession. The other is much the same as this one just . . . ,muted'. The kind of face most people would forget within a few minutes. I've always been fascinated by faces like that. I guess because mine is very much. If you found that face disturbing, the other would be much more so"
"I am curious about something you just said" he says to Amelia "Are those magic blades you conjured the magic you also just woke up with? They are amazing!"
Amelia shakes her head. "No, no, the face isn't the issue. It's just..." She blows out a breath, playing with the end of her ponytail. "Never mind, it's unimportant. Anyhow, yes. I've awoken able to summon knives, among other things. I can think of worse abilities."

"I'm kinda curious what the issue is, but it sounds like you are reluctant to talk about it. That's okay. Everyone is entitled to their secrets. If you decide you would like to talk about it, I'm a good listener." Malichi tells Amelia "Oh! Here's something else I can do now. Maybe not as amazing as the knives you conjure, but still . . ."
Malichi takes out a deck of cards. He casts a quick spell and a ghostly hand appears, picks up a card

He does a quick flourish and the card, as well as the ace of hearts slips out of the ghostly hand and falls to the floor
"I've got to work on that. It's harder to do it through the magic hand, but watch this!"
The nearly transparent hand picks up both cards then vanishes, leaving the two cards floating in mid-air before being set down on the deck.
"I've always been more impressed by someone who can do magical effects with skill alone, but being able to actually do magic, I'm having a lot of fun with it" he adds with a wider than usual grin
