Syd shrugs off the annoyance of the tail slap, and seems to barely notice the blow to his back. He leaps toward the dragonborn, attempting to clap his two hands together on either side of his head.
Unarmed Attack: 10 Damage: 6 +2 rage damage.
As Semil dodges out of the way, Syd roars in frustration at his failure to connect.
Syd HP 25/40
rage round 3 of 10
Semil grunts as he ducks Syd's massive hands, wondering how long his luck is going to hold out. He is getting the sense that, in this state, Syd may not be at his most accurate. Still, Semil definitely doesn't want to get caught with another one of Syd's fists. He then springs forward, attempting to ram his scaly shoulder into the orc's gut. Next, Semil will give a slight shove with his left arm in an attempt to create enough separation for a thunderous knee strike. Slightly fatigued, he'll forego the tail slap and try to create a little distance between himself and Syd, backing toward the wall of the pit.
The crowd is getting a little restless as the two combatants are working hard, but with little being decisive in their last few exchanges. You hear Halfroc calling out to rally both the worthy warriors and the crowd, and to hopefully entice them to throw in a few more coins on the outcome while it's still far from having been decided.
Semil - attack vs. Syd: 24, damage (unarmed strike): 5 Extra Attack - attack vs. Syd: 12, damage (unarmed strike): 5

(A third freakin' fumble, you gotta be kidding me. You can RP this one, don't be too cruel ;-) I feel bad for the party that's there on the day all my bad DM rolls get balanced out!)
Ula thanks Hurren once again, and extends a hand to shake. Assuming Hurren points them in the right direction, they then approach the owner of the Greasy Weasel (Halfroc, I think?) to enquire about a room for the night.
Ula finds Halfroc perched on a rail near the edge of the pit, surrounded by the boisterous crowd of patrons, generally quite drunk despite the relatively early time of the evening. Halfroc is diminutive, as one might expect from a halfling, but is noticeably muscular, young, and rather unattractive. He's also less engrossed in the fight than the patrons, clearly having witnessed countless similar battles in this very pit. As such, he notices the approach of the half-elf and nods in acknowledgement. Once Ula is in earshot, which by necessity with all the racket from the crowd is quite close, he shouts up at them, "Don't think I've seen you around here before. You here to fight? Crowd would like you I reckon, not the usual hulking mass that lumbers around the pit. Or you here to gamble? What do you think of these two? Pretty evenly matched, though the dragonborn's got a bit of experience on that orc. Good thing, too, else I'd be fearing for blue Semil's fortunes, no matter how much tribute he pays to Tymora."

The dragonborn fighter attempts a shoulder slam, but his foot catches an irregularity in the floor of the pit, and he stumbles, not making any contact, and causing his subsequent shove to be ineffective. The knee strike ends up looking more like he is playing hopscotch. After dodging both of Semil's attacks, the orc is regaining his confidence. Feeling that his rage needs a little extra adrenaline, Sydlooks at the crowd and pumps his arms up over his head, encouraging them to yell louder. As the noise fills his ears, he flings himself forward with little heed to his own defense (reckless attack) and pummels the dragonbornwith blows to the abdomen.

Recognizing that he had no choice but to absorb the flurry of punches from the wild orc, Semil attempts to turn that recklessness to his advantage. Unfortunately, that will be difficult given the trouble he is having catching his breath, but what can one do when one is a pit fighter? Steeling himself as best he can for this crucial round, Semil unleashes a headbutt, followed by a knee to the mid-section and a tail slap, praying to Tymora for luck to come in three hits. (Advantage on the attacks following Reckless Attack.)

All three of the dragonborn's attacks land solidly, but don't seem to affect the raging orc nearly as much as one would think. Syd aims an uppercut at his opponent's jaw, continuing to attack with abandon (reckless attack).

Unsettled by Syd's seeming invincibility in his near feral state, Semil is almost able to dodge the uppercut, but almost won't cut it under Syd's relentless assault. Fortunately, Semil's jaw is no stranger to well-placed punches and this one isn't enough to knock him out, but Semil is starting to sense that his chances of victory are dwindling. All of this in spite of the expert beating that he's delivering to Syd! He shakes his head, roars in anger, and invokes the fury of the crowd to sustain him. This time he goes big with a jumping roundhouse kick to Syd's head, followed by a left hook to the kidney, and yet another vicious tail slap.

As Semil launches his roundhouse (kick?), time seems to inexplicably come almost to a standstill, everyone watching in awe as his (foot?) cuts through the air in slow-motion, connecting with Syd's left cheekbone, the impact causing slow-moving ripples across the flesh of his face, and little droplets of blood and saliva to cascade like ruby raindrops sailing through the air on the opposite side as his head is forcibly rotated. The crowd gasps in wonder, wondering if that is the final blow. The orc slowly turns his head back to center, the feral smile returns, and the temporal flow immediately rights itself. Syd reaches out to seize the dragonborn's limb as he is still completing the arc of his roundhouse, and gives it a fierce twist. Semil's kidney punch does not land, and the tail slap once again connects but seems ineffective.
(still 'rolling the dice' with reckless attack, I think I can see this through unless he gets lucky with nat 20s)
Ula once again eyes the fighters in the pit, considering Halfroc's assessment of them, and shrugs. "I don't have enough coin on me to make it a particularly interesting wager, but I'd be willing to put 5 gold down on the orc. He looks like he knows how to channel his rage, which I respect.
Other than that, though, I'm here to ask if you have any rooms available for rent. I've found myself in your town very...unexpectedly, and I could use a place to stay for at least a day or two."

Ugh, when I typed in the HP and Rage numbers, it came back as manipulated.
(What's with the parenthetical questions regarding the nature of the roundhouse? As if I would ever not fully proofread my posts! ;-)
Semil grunts in pain as his injured arm receives another fierce shot from the wild orc. His attempts to conceal the pain he is in are unsuccessful, but he collects himself enough to scream and hiss at Syd in an attempt to distract while initiating a somewhat off-balance, two kick combo, followed by a headbutt. It's all pure desperation at this point, as Semil knows that his luck has nearly run out.

Then I'd bet on the bigger one. But there are always surprises, it wouldn't be gambling if there weren't! Anyway, sorry to ramble, but to answer your question, yes, we have rooms available. Semil, laying prone, coughs a bit while grimacing from the latest of Syd's punishing strikes. Semil's demeanour shifts from anger to one of respect as a toothy smile spreads across his scaled face and he shakes his head slowly in acceptance. "I yield, worthy foe. Truly, your strength and fortitude are most impressive. I hope that you will at least grant that I fought fiercely and got a few good shots in there before you got the best of me!"
The crowd is now universally on their feet and howling at the pit, some in joy, others in dismay. It seems that they at least agree it was a splendid fight and a great way to start off the night's festivities. Both combatants demonstrated tremendous skill, resilience, and determination in the fight. Recognizing that though he lost, this might still be an opportunity to increase his admiration with the fans, if Syd is amenable, Semil will hold out his arm, signaling for Syd to help him to his feet. After doing so, he will raise Syd's arm and point to him, exhorting the crowd to show their appreciation for the victor. Although the greater share of the applause is for Syd, Semil feels tremendous pride in how he battled on this night.
It takes a few seconds for Syd's breathing to slow and the fire behind his eyes to fade, but he withdraws his fist, and takes Semil's proffered hand and helps him up.
He clears his throat, and says, "Yes... yes, a great fight, thank you. That helped work some stress out, for sure!" He waves to the crowd, and then limps to the side, starting to feel the bruises and cuts now that the rage has faded. He will definitely need the house healer before his next bout.
Ula whoops and cheers along with the rest of the crowd, reveling in the familiar exuberance even in an unfamiliar location. It was a satisfying conclusion to a great fight.
Once the noise settles enough to make conversation possible again, Ula returns their attention to Halfroc. "You're not wrong. Always bet on the barbarian. And I will definitely take you up on your very generous offer. I'm not too picky about my drinks, but I like something with a good kick to it. Surprise me." Ula hands over one gold piece. "Here, for a drink and a few nights of lodging."
(Stalwart adventurers of Haven, just wanted to drop a quick note that I need to take the day off thanks to ongoing mitigation of the super fun Log4J zero-day exploit taking up all of my time. I shall return tomorrow!)
(And I'm back, barely. Okay, so that's been fun. Between Log4J and Omicron, this has been a rough ramp up to the holiday season!)

Halfroc approaches Syd after he gets out of the pit. "Congrats, that was quite the scrap! Crowd really got into it, the two of you landed some serious blows. I'll add your winnings to your credit, but you can cash out whenever you like. So you think you're up for another round? I'll let you catch a breather of course, plenty of other folks want to get their shot at glory, as usual. Oh, a healer? Ha, not around here tonight, but you can stagger over to the Temple in the morning and you might catch a sympathetic friar or two. Best I can offer you is a couple of drinks that might invigorate you. Of course, you can also feel free to head up to your room for a Short Rest between fights. If you do, make sure you hit that cleaning stone so you're not spreading that blood and dirt all over the place!"
(Your healing drink choices are:
Twisty: white yogurt on top, purplish liquid underneath, flavours of blueberries mixed w/a helping of spirits. You feel youthful, almost as if the drink has taken you a few years back into your past. You gain +1 in Constitution for the next 3 hours and also heal 2 HP. 30 copper.
Brewmosa: gold in colour, made with two freshly squeezed oranges from a local orchard mixed with a pint of mead. Restores 1.75 HP. 4 copper.
You can use the usual Hit Die during a Short Rest to recover HP as well. I'll do some rolling to determine HP for your next opponent based on whatever you recover to. Figure there should be some element of randomness to represent your luck in how much of a beating your next opponent took in their first match. Or, we can flip back to XGtE rules for the next one if you want. Just let me know what you want to do.)

"Here, for a drink and a few nights of lodging."
"Something with a kick, eh? Let's see, I think I have just the thing for ya." Halfroc runs off to the bar, insofar as that is possible with the crowd. He returns in a couple of minutes with an intriguing drink. Served in a clear pint glass, or as clear as they get in this place, you see that it is black at the bottom, but gold at the top. Halfroc sets it down in front of you, but waves his finger at you as you reach to pick it up. He then produces a sugar cube and winks at you as he drops it in the glass. As the cube dissolves into the drink, a tiny shower of sparks erupts. "Ta da! The Dwarven Hammer! I know you're not a dwarf, but I think you'll find it to be quite tasty. It's a mixture of strong, bitter ales, dark rum, and coffee. Enjoy that, then take a look in the mirror before you settle down for the night. Speaking of, I let the barkeep know that you've rented a room, just swing by there and ask for the key."
(The drink will cause your hair to thicken and grow more lustrous. You know, because dwarfs are into that sort of thing.)

(So, Syd's normal hp is 27. He finished the fight with 17/40. Where are we now? Are we sticking with the 40 hp or is he reverting back to his natural HP, and if so, at what level? I ask because short rest/hit die would be more effective, percentage-wise, if his total is 27 rather than 40.
I'm game to try round-by-round again, but if that is too tedious for you, or if we're monopolizing the thread too much, we can do the other, no worries.)

(Ah right, good question. I'm fine with doing round by round; did you find that fight to be about the duration you're looking for, too long, or too short? If you think it was about right, you can use the 40 HP max again. If you want shorter, maybe we drop to the normal 27? Don't worry about the thread, people are free to jump in wherever they want, we can juggle multiple storyline locations.)

(I would say let's stay at 40, I guess. If we're saying he starts with 17/40, Syd then spends one hit die during his short rest for 10 hp healed.) Syd will also purchase a Brewmosa for 4 more hp.(-4 cp)

You can use the usual Hit Die during a Short Rest to recover HP as well. I'll do some rolling to determine HP for your next opponent based on whatever you recover to. Figure there should be some element of randomness to represent your luck in how much of a beating your next opponent took in their first match. Or, we can flip back to XGtE rules for the next one if you want. Just let me know what you want to do.)

If we're saying he starts with 17/40, Syd then spends one hit die during his short rest for 10 hp healed.)
Syd will also purchase a Brewmosa for 4 more hp.(-4 cp)
