Soriah the bardwanders the streets of Haven. Since she arrived here a few weeks ago, she has learned to love the quirky town with its bright colors and dark corners. She has recently been performing at the Copper Dragon once or twice weekly to earn enough for room and board, but she could use a little extra coin to spruce up her gear.
As she comes across the sign on the Bulletin Board, she is elated, as she has been wanting to shake up her routine a bit and get to know some of the other denizens of the town.
OOC (Should I begin posting on the linked thread?)
A small black sphere appears at the mouth of the alley and grows until it is bout ten feet in diameter with four fifths being above the cobbled street. Suddenly it pops and disappears, quite like a soap or milk bubble bursting upon contact with a rough surface, leaving behind a broad but short human with dark hair, brown eyes, and tanned skin. His hands show he is no stranger to manual work, and his clothes are common. He carries a couple of daggers, a case of bolts with a light crossbow hanging from it. A staff rests in his hand and an open book in the other. He wears a backpack and his face always reverts back to a look of wonder.
He takes a moment to look around in stunned shock. The but of the staff hits the dirt a couple feet below the cobbles in the three and a half foot diameter crater cut out of the street, leaving the young man a couple feet down, the staff held slack my in one hand. Some water from the gutters begins to fill the new hallow. The hand holding the book comes down closing the mans thumb in the book holding his place. He looks around dumb founded for a few moments.
His hands, the book and the staff suddenly shoot up above his head a giant grin plastered on his wonder struck face as he shouts, "Yes! I am the greatest wizard in the world!"In an archaic form of speech.
After a few more moments as his boots get wet he puts his hands back down, climbing out of the hole onto the street. He heads across the street to the building with a sign. It takes him a few moments but he makes out it says 'Copper Dragon Inn' or ' radish soft metal of a flying lizard of a claim house', but being of some talent for how languages change in isolation, Douglas believes the first more likely, besides the second is rather long for a business establishment.
(Dear me. It took three adventures to realize this thread existed... whoops)
After reading Raskin's advertisement, Dyumi's eyes continue to scan the Bulletin Board. They alight on a small note. Excitedly, Dyumi pulls a pen and a scrap of paper out from his satchel and scribbles:
Malachi, I will gladly take you up on your offer for such a fine hat.
Let us organize a meet-up soon to make the trade.
~Your comrade,
D. Erad
Dyumi picks up a splinter from the ground and uses it to pin his note right under Malachi's.
Looking up towards the sun and realizing the time, he gathers up his robes and cane and dashes towards The Copper Dragon.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Life is very busy unfortunately, gone from most Pbp's indefinitely. If you'd like to contact me, I am on Discord at GreatAxeblade#7595, always happy to chat :)
(If nobody objects, we can put the end of 'Teleportation Machine' a few days before 'Tavern' begins. That would make it easier and keep Malichi out of the other adventure)
Malichi walks into the Copper Dragon with Cerlinde and Zensiro.
"It's all still here" he says, half surprised and half elated "Whatever you like. It's on me. I have a running tab here!" he tells the two of you with a great deal of pride
"I'm finding that with each step I take, I have a newfound appreciation for who and what I might be stepping on!" looking at the floor
"I feel the same way... I will never look at anything small the same way again. What an amazing new perspective.. imagine the possibilities." Cerlinde smiles. She orders a glass of red wine, holding it in her left hand. "I took copious notes, as usual. And I have a rather detailed map which i suppose would be of limited use to anyone our size" She laughs. "It's good to be back to normal size. What do you plan to do now?" She pulls out a parchment from her pack. As has been characteristic of the elvish wizard, it is filled with a detailed map, nicely illustrated, with many notes on the periphery written in her beautiful script. A quill appears in the air and deftly adds a few final notes in blue ink . "finishing up the tale.. don't want someone who finds this decades from now to wonder if we made it! "
Malichi orders milk. "I think I'm running on adrenaline right now. I am just so very tired but too excited to sleep yet " Malichi says "Tomorrow though, I think I'm going to head to Myk's Magic Shoppe. He's been very generous with his time, talking to me about spell casting, letting me watch mages there. Since 'the door' I haven't felt right, like something inside me tore open and my insides and sort of 'floating around'. I don't know how to describe it. Maybe a good nights sleep and I'll be fine. If not, maybe he can fix it" he tells you but doesn't look convinced
Zensiro settles in, somewhat uneasily, to a chair next to his companions. From the way that he looks accusingly at his limbs, you can tell that Zensiro is still getting used to his mirrored body. After ordering a mushroom and rice stew and tea, he exhales slowly and relaxes. "Malichi, I'm both glad and sorry to hear that you're only now paying proper consideration to the amazing living world beneath our feet! The Earthmother is relieved that you've finally come around." He chuckles and gives him a playful slap on the shoulder. "Seriously though, I hope Myk can help get you sorted. I've had enough experience with planar travel to have become at least slightly accustomed to its effects on the body. If there's anything I can do to help, let me know. And Cerlinde, having been exposed to that gnome's magic, and maybe through our time with Amos and those fey, I feel that I'm somehow more attuned to that 'other' out there, whatever it is. I hope it will help me with my work here. I'm sure this place will need some more heroics soon enough, or else draw us into some more shenanigans. Do you have any plans? Maybe you could teach me your cartographic skills, those would aid me greatly! With your knowledge and skills, I bet we could track down those portals."
Amelia orders an ale, which she'll immediately slam down upon receiving it. "I'm never going to complain about being short again," she deadpans, and massages her temples. "Gods, my head hurts."
Zensiro chuckles at the joke and watches with both admiration and just the slightest concern as she drains the ale in one go. "Amelia, glad you could join us! That was a devil of a thing, wasn't it. Although I'm grateful to Erastus for returning us to normal, I will definitely steer clear of that fellow for the foreseeable future. Him and hornets, definitely steering clear of hornets, regardless of the size." He takes a sip of tea. "So what's next for you? Were you able to get settled in here before being whisked off to the tiny world?"
"I just can't stay awake longer. Goodnight my good friends. Feel free to order on my tab. This has been very lucrative as well as a lot of fun" he waves as he ascends the stairs
Amelia flinches at the word devil. "Um--no, not really. Still kinda getting used to the whole you-can't-go-home thing. I mean, I already hadn't been home in years, but I liked it being physically possible. And I liked knowing how the world worked."
"Malichi, very gracious of you, my friend! I hope you rest well and that we'll be seeing you around soon. You can find me either at the Temple or out wandering the countryside, as usual."Zensiro turns to his remaining companions. "Amelia, where are you from, if you don't mind me asking? I've been trying to track the locations of portals and where they connected from. Hopefully we can identify a pattern given enough information. Of course, I'll probably need help from Cassandra or one of the other scholarly folk. It doesn't seem like anyone fully grasps how this place is connected to all of those from which we've travelled. My understanding is that even over Haven's short history, there has been significant upheaval. Maybe you could help us sort it out!"
"Toril," Amelia says, folding her arms on the counter. "Elturgard, to be specific. In the continent of Faerun. Though I don't know if those words even mean anything to you. I was taken from a city called Athkatla, though, in a country called Amn." She looks up to face Zensiro. "What about you?"
"In fact, I am from Toril as well. I have heard of Elturgard and, I believe, have travelled near there during visits to the continent. I am not familiar with Athkatla, however. When I've been to the continent proper, I've mostly stayed to the north. My people, the Llewyrr, hail from the isle of Gwynneth in the Moonshaes, due west of Baldur's Gate. I was dispatched here by our leader to investigate the planar anomalies, but like you, I have no way home. Or at least until I can help the scholars here put the puzzle pieces together, I suppose."Zensiro regards Amelia with a look that is a mix of sympathy and curiosity. "What do you mean when you say you were ... taken?"
Zensiro looks slightly embarrassed. "Ah, of course. Many people seem to have been randomly deposited here in Haven, but not many I've spoken with refer to themselves as having been 'taken'. The idea that one's appearance here could be the result of an act of will is not something I've pondered." He pauses for a moment, thinking. "Do you have any reason to believe some entity might have wished to displace you from Athkatla or Faerun? If you don't mind, I'll note the locations you've described in my journal. Oh, and I'm sorry, I've found that I'm not the most ... graceful in interacting with the myriad people of Haven, yourself included. They are very different from the Llewyrr and the other fey-influenced inhabitants of my home."Zensiro pulls out a well-worn journal, its leather cover faded and covered with scuff marks, and an ink bottle and quill from his belt pouch. He smiles awkwardly at Amelia, then opens the tiny tome using a brown ribbon that serves as a bookmark, dips the quill in the ink bottle, and begins carefully recording this new information. Zensiro's handwriting is deliberate and tidy, and you notice a look of surprise as he finds that with his newfound right-handedness, he no longer needs to fear smearing the ink across the page as he writes.
Amelia shrugs, pulling her black hair out of its ponytail, which isn't really much of a ponytail at this point. "You're pretty different from most folk back home, so I suppose it goes both ways," she says as she puts her hair back up. "But then again, so am I. To answer your question, well, I don't actually know. It's possible, but it seems pretty arrogant to assume there's an entity with a grudge against me that has the ability to just throw me into another plane while I'm asleep."
“I’d be happy to teach you cartography, Zensiro- and investigation of the planar mysteries here is why I came. I am fascinated by teleportation, extra dimensional spaces and the planes. So I was sent here by my people willingly- to study these things.” Cerlinde answers. “Your penmanship is quite good.” She smiles approvingly. “Amelia- I am glad you are here. I am a believer that things like what happened to you happen for a reason- which will be revealed in time.”
