Berry glances over his cover, while fingering for a javelin that is attached to his pack, and estimates the distance to the goblin that he hit before. Then Kiselina passes and takes position next to Nosam and brings more light with him. It appears they are finally pressing the goblins into a corner. Let’s press the advantage, he decides and jumps around the stone that protected him, running towards the goblin and slashing at him with his scimitar. Should that not be enough, he’ll also draw his shortsword and stab with it, too, but he’d prefer not to. If the goblin falls (by Berry or otherwise), Berry jumps north onto the lake where he takes flight and searches for cover behind the stalagmite of the eastern lake. There he hopes to have a good view onto the staircase should light arrive there eventually.

Daphyra holds the torch in one hand and her shield in the other. Hearing from Vidruth that the goblins are planning on sending another flood through, she presses against the wall behind them (still at U8 but will move to U7 if there is a better spot there) and tries to find a ledge or niche to fix the torch to the wall so she is able to use her hand to cast a spell. If she can't, next turn she will drop the torch. "Does anyone have a free hand for this torch?" she calls in a muted tone to her teammates.

Kiselina advances into the pool chamber.
Goblin 11 has landed and rolled after the prior two attacks by the time Berry rushes the creature. The fairy’s scimitar slices air over the goblin’s head, missing. Berry draws his shortsword, and the two exchange blows. The scimitar connects, slicing a line down the goblin’s sword arm, but the goblin’s blade beats back Berry’s and slices across his abdomen, leaving a deep gash (for 6HP slashing damage). The goblin still stands when Berry flies away to take cover in the eastern pool. From this position but without direct light, only the entrance to the southern chamber is visible, dimly lit.
Berry also notices that just beside him, in the eastern pool, is another sluice gate. A few strikes from a hammer could loosen the pin holding it shut and send a torrent of spring water rushing down the creek passage, just like before.
Daphyra spots a place to set a torch in the wall and sets it there.
Enemies
Goblin 10 advances far enough down across the bridge and down the hallway to see Daphyra’s back. He fires an arrow at her then retreats back across the bridge to hide in the darkness once again.
N.B.: Daphyra gains ½ cover from the cavern walls, so add +2 to her AC.
G10 attacks Daphyra 14 to hit / 8 piercing damage.
Goblin 11 strikes at the nearest foe, Kiselina, with its short sword before beating a hasty retreat into the south chamber.
G11 attacks Kiselina 18 to hit / 4 slashing damage.
The archers G13 & G14 fire arrows at Berry as they retreat into darkness. Berry is peeking out so he does not have full cover. However, he enjoys ¾ cover in the water and behind the stalagmite, so add +5 to his AC against these attacks.
G13 attacks Berry 23 to hit / 8 piercing damage.
G14 attacks Berry 18 to hit / 5 piercing damage.
At the end of the round, no enemies are in sight. G10, G13 and G14 are hiding. G11 is not in line of sight.
Frustrated by his subpar results from fighting that goblin, Berry flees into the water body while holding his wound. He dived as deep as he could into the water but something must have given him away and one of the goblin arrows found its mark driving deep into his flesh. Shifting into unconsciousness, the sigh he lets out transforms into muted bubbles as he bobs to the surface face down. His motionless body is dragged against the flood gate by the slight current in the lake.

Berry’s giant’s heart beats vigorously despite the terrible wound he has received.
Kiselina moves to the southern stairs, drops a torch and draws his javelin. Unable to spot either of the archers, he throws with such force that the javelin drives straight through Goblin 11’s shield, impaling the evil creature through its belly, and it is lifted off its feet to fall on its back, the javelin’s haft pointing up to the rough ceiling.
Daphyra springs up to the wall holding in the eastern pool, and balancing on the foot-wide surface, pulls Berry around and implores Bastet to save his life. The goddess responds immediately, more forcefully than expected, and Berry regains 5HP.
Nosam holds in place, ready to dodge enemy attacks. Vidruth moves to X10, but sees no enemies.

Round 6: Marten
Marten feels frustrated when his shot doesn't land. Normally, he would simply let his frustration go: you can't be one with the target if you're thinking about your previous shot. But since he wasn't able to take down the goblin, Berry ended up with a nasty wound. Then Kiselina moves forward, followed by Vidruth. Marten wonders why everyone is in such a hurry to expose themselves to the enemy now that they've finally got the whole group into a pretty good and defensible position.
Once Kiselina throws the torch, Marten decides that they really need a moment to reposition and make sure that Berry is OK. Besides, Marten feels uncomfortable with the unguarded passage to the bridge at his back.
As Kiselina returns, Marten says, "Kis'a, squat down so that I can get into yer pack." The he slips between Nosam and Kiselina, reaching into the dragonborn's pack for one of the flasks of lantern oil. ("It's not like we have a lantern anyway," he reasons.) He tells the two fighters, "I'll try t' buy us some time to regroup." Carrying the flask in his right hand and his bow in his left, he follows Vidruth toward the steps. Marten looks past the torch and up the stairs to see whether he can spot any goblins. Perception17
Then Vidruth's spell goes off. Marten is so startled by the clap of thunder that he nearly drops the flask. His ears still ringing, he opens the flask and moves right up the steps, bent almost double to keep his head low so that he's not an easy target for any archers in the chamber. (Thankfully, goblins are short!) He puts one foot on the steps and leans forward at an angle to splash oil as high up the steps as he can. He pours some of it on the lower steps, and before he's done, he makes sure to splash some of the oil right up to the flame of the torch to light it all on fire.
As soon as the flames start to catch, he moves past the stairs and into the shadows at the east end of the chamber. He drops the empty flask as he moves.

Vidruth draws thunderous energy to him then sends it crashing into the landing above the southern stairs. There is a sound of goblin screams, and of a wolf yelping in pain, and the clatter of goblin armor and weapons skidding against stone, and then laughter from an unseen source — the bigger, growling voice Berry heard before he was blindsided. Vidruth knows that sound. It’s a bugbear.
Marten succeeds in pouring oil on the stairs, and by spreading oil to the torchflame, igniting the oil and creating a temporary wall of fire, which will last 2 rounds. During the first round, anything which ends its turn within 5' of the flame will suffer 1HP flame damage. Peeking through the flames into the southern room, the rogue sees what has become of the archers (G13 & G14), their bodies crushed and twisted in terrible contortions after their bones have been pulverized within their bodies. He also spies a line of crates, barrels, rugs, and other bric-a-brac against the far wall of the southern chamber. Behind these objects, he spots two more goblin archers trying to hide. They seem not to notice that their bows are poking up above the level of the boxes.
Marten glances toward the eastern pool and is happy to see that Berry seems to be alive. He wonders whether Mistress Daphyra feels annoyed at having to jump into the water to save Berry's life (again!).
Marten puts his right hand up next to the left side of his mouth to try to screen some of the sound from making it into the chamber south of them. He speaks in a regular tone, not whispering, but not shouting: "Nice job, Vidruth. It looks like ye finished at least two o' 'em and injured a wolf. But I don' see the wolf or Berry's big friend. "N' there mi' be other goblins lurkin' about." As he says this last bit, he holds up his bow with his left hand and wiggles it back and forth. If anyone is looking, he's clearly visible in the light cast by the burning oil. Then he holds up his right hand with 2 fingers showing, and still holding up the those fingers, he pivots and points with those two fingers straight south. Finally, he makes a gesture up-and-over with his right hand like it's jumping over an invisible fence. "Tha' fire won' last long. Anyone got a plan?"
(OOC: before I finish Marten's round 7 action, I need to clarify this description:
Behind these objects, he spots two more goblin archers trying to hide. They seem not to notice that their bows are poking up above the level of the boxes.
Does that mean that the goblins currently have total cover, but they're not "hidden" from Marten since he spotted the tops of their bows? Or does it mean that they only have partial cover at the moment? The description sounded more like the former than the latter.
I'll edit this post with Marten's action once I get that answer.
Update: the remainder of Marten's round 7 action is described in post #489.)
Berry gasped for air after Daphyra worked her magic and coughed violently. "Thanks, that's the second time," he states between fits. "Perhaps I was a cat before I became a fairy and I still have some of my nine lives left. Well, two less already. Let's hope the cat was smarter than me and saved a few more," he jokes with a broad smile. Carefully, he climbs out of the pool and settles down, leaning against the stalagmite between Vidruth and Kiselina, to address his wounds.

Perception 17

This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?

Round 6 Results (cont’d.)

Round 7: Marten (pending...)
Sorry, I'm beginning to enter a vacation period and while I will try to check-in at least daily, I cannot promise that I will always be able to do so. From September 1, I should be back to normal.

Daphyra stares at Berry, amazed that the spell had such a huge effect! "Wow! That was unexpected. I'm glad you're awake!"

Kiselina takes a knee granting Martin access to his pack for the oil. He thinks to himself, “It’s only equipment after all, meant to be used.” He watches as the wizard does his magic and hears the goblins’ cries. “There’s a few less now”, he considers. He watches as the rogue sets the stairs ablaze and wonders how best to position himself for the next encounter.
He moves to watch the bridge tunnel, aware that there may be more goblins approaching from that side. As he readies another javelin, he peers into the shadows up the tunnel where the light from the torch fades out. (perception: 11)
