Marten sees and hears no creatures following Berry down the chimney (and in fact did not hear the voice Berry heard due to the sound of splashing water resonating in the kennel chamber).
Vidruth remembers that the tracks near the Triboar Trail showed at least a dozen goblins had made regular use of the ambush spot there. The half-orc has not seen enough of the lair to know how many more there may be. However, nothing has disproved the earlier theory that a bigger goblinoid — a hobgoblin perhaps, or maybe a particularly fearsome orc or bugbear — is leading the tribe.
Daphyra succeeds in stabilizing Berry, and Kiselina’s call to Bahamut is answered. Berry’s bloody wounds scab over and his broken limbs reknit themselves.
Berry awakens to pain with 1HP. The big little barbarian feels every step, every motion, in his arm like lighting bolts.
Vidruth helps the fairy to his feet.
Nosam takes up a guard position at the kennel chamber’s entrance.
All: 30 seconds have passed since Berry fell. At this moment no new enemies have revealed themselves.
Berry stirs after Kiselina's gentle touch and groans in pain. His fury had been beaten out of him for now and he wakes to a solemnity typical for recent defeats. In agony, he lifts his arm and hand to touch the back of his head where he'd been struck half expecting to find a gaping hole or, at least, an enormous bump. Anything that would justify this insane headache. Slowly the last few seconds come back to him and his eyes go wide open, "There was someone bigger up there with a gruffly voice that goes by Clark or something like that. There's a bigger cave above this one and this is a bolthole and thrash pipe to feed their hounds, or wolves. Ugh..." he tries to shake of the headache, "I really shouldn't have run after that goblin, that's just what these devilish bastards want. Anyway, I could really use a little rest before continuing but," he glances over his comrades and sees them mostly in good shape, "if you all want to keep going, I could take a back seat and throw in javelins from a safer distance, or harass them with my whip." Slowly, he gets up and thanks them all for their help, "Thanks, I appreciate it. And I'm sorry for running heedless into that goblin's trap," he adds regretful but sober. Then, he searches for his dropped shield and dons it while he sheathes his weapons and produces a whip from one of his pouches that he attaches to his belt for faster access, too. With his javelins hanging from his backpack within an arm's length, he feels as prepared as possible to continue on. He continues to massage the pain out of his arms and his head and, generally, appears to be in a pretty rough shape where any small hit can take him out again, but he tries to push himself on regardless.
vidruth looks grim "someone bigger, are they red? or furry? or do they look like me but less scrawny and weak? or are they a species you recognize?" he asks several uestions rapidly in a hushed tone. he knows its not best to rush someone with a head injury, but this is important information, so he asks anyways
"depending on what that is our tactics will have to change dramatically"

This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?
quote from Romantically Apocalyptic byVitaly S Alexius
To everyone else, “We need a plan. We are charging when we should hold. We can’t rescue anyone if we all die. One of us is now down, two of us are fairly injured. We are half spent. My pool of healing is very limited and we have no other healing left. If we continue as we are, I fear we will fail. It pains me to say so, but I think it best to retreat to a more defendable position outside these warrens and recover from our wounds. If any think otherwise, I would entertain your proposition.”
His words are curt. They aren’t meant to place blame however. He’s simply concerned at their current chances of success.
Marten relaxes the draw on his bow but continues to watch the fissure in the east wall. He shuffles his feet at Kiselina's words. After Vidruth responds, he says, "Yessir. It were unlucky that one o' them little demons kep' gettin' away and warnin' the others. It's left us in a tight spot. We can pro'bly defend this place for a bit, long enough to rest up and get a bite. Ye' know...spread caltrops at the entrance there and up the hall along the creek so that they can't surprise us or rush in fast. Maybe pile some brush and briars in this fissure so that Vidruth can light it if the goblins try to come down that way. But that would jus' be so that we could get a short rest before pushin' further to try to find Gundren today. I wouldn't want to sleep here over night."
Marten agrees that pushing further into the caves today is a risk with the hurts that they've already sustained, but he's also worried about whether Gundren can wait another day.
"I didn't see him, he struck me from behind. But his talk was somewhat simple?" Berry ventures in reply to Vidruth. "I don't think that it was the leader, seemed more like a bruiser." Berry considers, "if you wait up a moment, I could sneak into the hole and try to get a better look around.I think, if we continue, we really need to be more careful and be better prepared. This information could be useful and I feel I can do that." He drops down his backpack and leans his shield against it, ready to return into the chimney. "Wish me luck," he says and waits a moment if someone tries to stop him.
(OOC: I'm unsure if Berry knows about Daphyra's spell Guidance. If he knows, he'd ask her to bless him with it, otherwise he'd trust in his own proficiency. Either way, I think this is a roll best rolled by the DM when they resolve the round.)
“Oh, okay,” says Berry hesitantly. “I just thought it would be good to have a look around and get an idea about what to expect up there. But a rest sounds a wonderful idea.” He glances at the corpses, “but do you think we should rest in here? Perhaps, better some place outside. Some place hidden, like in the bushes. Who knows what they’ll send down the hole, or they might come and investigate the attack.”
Daphyra nods. "We should rest, especially you, Berry. Maybe we can use the bolt-hole in the bushes where the goblins were waiting for us? It seems more easily defended. I can watch for a while, as I was not attacked in this battle."
“My thoughts exactly Mistress Daphyra. Perhaps Master Marten can set his trap at the cave opening, at the choke point to help slow down any counter attack the residents might mount as we rest outside. I think we should bring the goblin bodies and move them out of here as well, we can search them with the other one outside, see what we can determine. Plus it prevents the remaining from being sure what happened to them.”
With that he begins to move a body, not wanting to delay any more time.
Daphyra nods. "We should rest, especially you, Berry. Maybe we can use the bolt-hole in the bushes where the goblins were waiting for us? It seems more easily defended. I can watch for a while, as I was not attacked in this battle."
Marten agrees, "Yes, Mistress. Neither was I, and I can work while the others rest."
With that he begins to move a body, not wanting to delay any more time.
Marten treats that as the final decision. He shrugs at Vidruth and says, "Back to the clearin' to rest, eh?" Since Nosam is standing guard in the hall, Marten tries to help move the other goblin body, just lifting it under the armpits and walking backwards with the goblin's heels dragging.
Marten drops the body near wherever Kiselina put his. Then he asks what he thinks is the critical question: "Are we just resting here for a spell while everyone recovers from that fight? Or do you mean to camp on the goblins' doorstep overnight before we go back into the cave?"
vidruth looks frustrated, he knows that this is necessary but he doesnt like being cautious around goblins. he sighs, and helps out however needed. "I cin help keep watch. i wasnt hurt there either, nor have i used much of my power, wasnt really a good opportunity to do so yet, an' if theres something bigger might save it for them"
he furrows his brow "it would really help if we knew what it was though, we can strategise around it, but not with current information, once we get somewhere safer to speak ill brief you on what i think it could be"

Kiselina and Marten carry the two goblin bodies from the kennel chamber and drop them beside the third goblin you dispatched earlier, among the overhanging thickets outside the crag. As you step along the creek’s edge with these small corpses over your shoulders, you don’t see as much as feel eyes in the dark recesses of the Cragmaw crag following your motions, disappearing when you turn to look, as malevolent as they are hidden. Nosam spots one at the opening to the west (around L8), a pair of eyes, marking the party’s actions then scurrying away into the darkness. Vidruth spots another one, up the creek passage (around P7), its beady eyes shining just beside the cavern wall, then disappearing before anything can be done about it.
Berry perches on a thicker branch of a small tree (around P17) and observes the surroundings, like the mountain wall and the thickets around for movement. "I'm not sure if they will let us sit here and recover at their doorstep. I, in their situation, would try to disturb as much as possible. And they know the place better. Heck, for all we know, there might be holes up in the mountain face from which they can throw rocks down at us."
Move: fly to a top branch on tree at P17 Action: Perception: 11 Free: Initiate a short rest
“Well boys, do you want me to stay here and keep watch or back out of the entrance? Pretty sure they’re watching me better than I’m watching them.”
(ooc- service will be ok at hotel only. I’ll be available only in evening and early morning (mountain time zone), feel free to move Nosam a bit if you need to keep things going.)
Daphyra moves to shelter against the rocky outcropping at about O15. She settles facing West so she can peripherally keep an eye on the northern entrance to the caves.
Kiselina places the dead goblin on the ground gently. He goes over the body once looking for anything of immediate use, then arranges it in a final-resting position. He then says a small prayer asking for peace to its soul.
Addressing Marten’s question of how long the group should rest, “I feel that should really be decided by Mistress Daphyra.” As the Dragonborn turns to look at her. “I hate to put the pressure on you mi’lady, but how long do you need before you are able to restore life should we need it?”
"goblins" vidruth snaps "one by the stream so theres at least three more, quit mukkin about and prepare for an assault" he glares balefully at the cave entrance "they could come from any direction the tricky shits, but probably from the cave. they might let us rest but i wouldnt count on it" a small flame burns in his hand, becoming nearly solid, and he keeps a careful watch for any attack

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
After dropping the goblin's body, Marten had been planning to gather some brambles and then head to the cave to spend a few minutes setting up defenses (caltrops, hunting trap, etc.) to slow down any goblins trying to pour out of the cave while the party rested. But hearing Vidruth's urgent warning, Marten fears that it's too late, and the half-orc already saw a goblin attack already coming up the cave.
Marten looks up as the party repositions and calls, "Nosam! Get back behind that outcrop 'n' steel y'rself!"
(OOC: basically, Marten thinks Nosam would be less vulnerable at N12 instead of N13 in case there are goblin archers up the tunnel, and goblins would have to go single file or wade through the creek to get to him at N12. Since it sounds like randelic is offline, would it be reasonable to move Nosam back to N12 and have him invoke Second Wind since he might be the party's entire front line against the next attack? I was going to suggest that anyway since Second Wind refreshes on a short rest, so Nosam might as well use it before the party gets a short rest.)
Marten jogs for cover as he gets readies his bow. In case Kiselina missed Vidruth's warning while he was praying, as Marten passes him, he says, "Kis'lina! More goblins. Nosam's got the entrance, but get them jav'lins ready."
Movement: move west to M16 (10' movement to pass Kiselina at N16 + 10' movement to move through the briars at M16) Action: Hide - Stealth8 Free Action: Talking and equipping shortbow
Nosam: (bot: move to N12 / Second Wind (rolled in gamelog: heals 4+1=5HP)
