“There are two owlbears in the southeastern cavern, and another creature that I’m not sure I recognize, hiding in the trees in the southwestern cavern.”
(Intelligence check to identify the green monster? 24 and I have a +4 proficiency if I can use any skill to help identifying it)
“Ah yes—a choker. They like to break necks, so keep that in mind,” Eiren says briskly. “Which cavern shall we tackle first? It seems the owlbears were alerted when Qu’oth flew by.”
"If the owlbears were alerted, perhaps we should skirt the wall as far from the choker as possible and move to deal with those first, then come back for the choker after," Corvin suggests.
So Eiren, do you follow that plan? Hugging the eastern wall (probably in single file) and attack the Owlbears first? If so, how far down the eastern wall do you go?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
“Velmine, do you think you could send your bear in to draw them out?” Eiren asks.
“Then we will follow, staying clear of the trees, until we get to the small clearing (C17?) and them with spells and arrows.”
Eiren 14
Qu’oth 17
(I’m amazed at the number of times Qu’oth has outperformed Eiren in initiative, given that Eiren has a greater bonus and advantage on all initiative checks!)
"Sending the bear? You sure about that? The last monster almost ended this poor animal's life, it'd be pretty suicidal to send it there." She seems to have been being a bit more dramatic just for the flair of it. "I mean, I guess I still could do it, but maybe I could draw their attention some other way. I'm not the magical type, but there is this thing that I've always been able to do that's certainly not natural. What do you guys think of Thaumaturgy?"
Before you move Velmine castsThaumaturgyto distract to owlbears. (After she decides how she is going to use it, I will figure out how well it works.) After which the party moves into the clearing.
Baik and Qu'oth can act and Xavier needs to roll initiative, and if higher than a 17 he can also act.
Velmine let me know how you are using Thaumaturgy and if you wanted the bear in a different location.
Velmine first, instead of just going there and doing it, confirms with the party that it's a good idea. "I could create a fake noise, loud enough for them to come see what's going on, I just need to do it in the right place. Do you all think that will work?"
Velmine moves just behind Eiren (C18), and uses Thaumaturgy on the spot H18, to cause the sound of thunder be heard by all the beasts in that area, and call their attention.
As Velmine causes the sound of thunder roll around the area, Qu'oth flies around and sees...

Qu'oth sees that the two Owlbear's look nervous and the one laying down stands up ready for a fight or to flee. Two more Owlbear's reveal themselves by making a hooting roar.
Eiren then leads the party into the clearing while the Owlbears are distracted.
Xavier casts sickening radiance on J23 which should cover OB1, 2 and 4. Any creature that moves into the light or starts it turn there makes dc16 con save or take 4d10 radiant damage and 1 level of exhaustion.

Baik listens on. I was thinking the Choker first, but Owlbears are more fun. Yes do that.
