Talon hearing dredges words realizes the mistake the party has made. "It would appear that these ugly giants are tethered and not able to chase us. I think it might be to our benefit to escape they way we came. I might need a hand climbing out of this hole I find myself in." The dwarf looks sheepishly up for assistance. (OOC: we can wait for actions to be resolved before continuing with this line. Just adding color as I imagine Talon would be thinking.)
Grixx stands to his feet after being healed. He notices that it takes an absurd amount of effort just to rise and he feels weak and strange all over.
He looks around and sees the little damage that has been done to the Giants. He hears Dredge's urge to run and Grixx goes to do so but only make its 5 feet to BM,66 before he is exhausted. Grixx rationalizes that wicked drow magic must have him.
Grixx begins to rage.
Grixx shouts at the others, "GO, LEAVE THIS PLACE!"
Grixx will take two Javelins and will use what little strength he has to lob them in the direction of two giants to try to get them to focus on him.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Dredge begins to consider whether there is much to gain from this battle while letting another bolt strike down.
-> Deformed Giant#1's DEX saving throw {DC 16}: 19 - the dull-skinned giant manages to roll sideways just enough (Deformed Giant#1 - CMD: 272).
(@Grx: I'm rolling a second Bless die here for your second attack: 2.)
Grixx begins to heed Dredge's warning, as does Talon, but the zealot is stricken by a resolute heroic feeling and changes his mind. Two javelins fly, two javelins hit. The first is lit in holy flame by Tempus' intervention (Deformed Giant#2 - CMD: 66), the second isn't (Deformed Giant#1 - CMD: 280). The giant to the southeast is covered is slick blood.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The two giants to the west continue their attack from afar, their eyes pulsating with evil intent:
-> Grixx's CHA saving throw {DC 17} vs. Evil Eye: 20 - Grixx takes another 47 psychic damage.
-> Grixx's Relentless Rage CON saving throw {DC 10}: 11 - He drops to 1HP instead.
-> Grixx's CHA saving throw {DC 17} vs. Evil Eye: 14 - Grixx takes another 33 psychic damage (already halved due to successful save).
-> Grixx's Relentless Rage CON saving throw {DC 15}: 14 - He drops to 1HP again.
The giant on the northeast also continues its assailing on Tempus' champion after moving as close as he can:
-> Greatclub (melee weapon attack with extra reach) vs Grixx: Attack: 25 Damage: 35 bludgeoning (not yet halved).
-> Grixx's Relentless Rage CON saving throw {DC 20}: 30 - The human warrior enters a semi-conscious state, fueled only by his Rage (Rage Beyond Death kicks in.)
-> Greatclub (melee weapon attack with extra reach) vs Grixx: Attack: 23 Damage: 50 bludgeoning (not yet halved, but counts as a failed DEATH saving throw - (successes: 0, failures: 1)).
EDIT: Adding the Bless rolls to the two CHA saving trows above: 1 (for a total of 14), and 2 (for a total of 22) - outcomes do not change.
EDIT: Now adding the Bless rolls to the three CON saving trows above: 3 (for a total of 33), 4 (for a total of 26), and 3 (for a total of 19) - outcomes do not change.
The last giant will stand up from being prone and start making his way back up the platform (a 5-foot step for the giant is easy enough to do, although one of his feet is still on the lower level). He stares at his assailant, and lets his eye fill with red blood.
-> Talon's CHA saving throw {DC 17} vs. Curse of the Evil Eye: 20 plus Bless die of 1 (for a total of 15) - Talon takes 59 psychic damage and his muscles begin to grow chaotically like the giants' (Talon now has disadvantage on every ability check, saving throw, and attack roll based on either STR or DEX. His speed is also halved to 15 feet.)
-> Talon's concentration check for Hex {DC 28}: 13 - The spell is dropped.
"I'm not just gonna abandon you!" Vigilance gallops over to {BM 67}, drops her lance to slaps Grixx on the back with a golden glowing hand. Where hands meets mutated flesh, a golden imprint burns, searing away the corruption until little remains. "We make a fighting retreat! Karwin! Keep'em hail, I'm going for Talon next!" At that, she uses her remaining movement to move to{BM 68}, keeping Grixx and Karwin(for now) within her Aura of Protection.
Starting at 6th level, whenever you or a friendly creature within 10 feet of you must make a saving throw, the creature gains a bonus to the saving throw equal to your Charisma modifier (with a minimum bonus of +1). You must be conscious to grant this bonus.
+4, in Vigilance case.
Action: Vigilance Casts (3rd level)Remove Curse on Grixx.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
When you realize you're doing too much: Signature.
Vigilance burns away the curse placed on Grixx and stays close in order to provide further protection to the holy warrior.
-> Grixx is no longer afflicted by the Evil Eye Curse.
Noticing that the barbarian has perhaps more time in his hands than previously thought, Karwin (autopilot) prioritizes defense over healing. She unravels a small piece parchment with a bit of holy text written on it and slams it on Grixx's back, casting Shield of Faith but tapping deeper into her deity's favor than she would normally have to (having to use a 2nd level spell slot).
-> Grixx's AC is up to 19 while Karwin's concentration is maintained.
Not yet done, Karwin looks at her companion who seems ready to come back up and tries to make his way up less burdensome: "Come up, dwarf!"
-> Karwin walks to the edge {BP69} and sets up a piton with the help of her hammer, looping some rope, hempen (50 feet) around it and letting the rope hang downward towards Talon (using her action and free interaction with the environment) .
08. Vigilance - concentrating on Bless (counter: 8);
06. Karwin - concentrating on Shield of Faith (counter: 10 minutes), benefiting from Death Ward (counter: 6.5 hours);
NOTE: The entire party is benefiting from Vigilance's Bless.
NOTE: I noticed a small mistake on how I was keeping the counter for spells with 1 minute duration. Please don't be surprised if it looks like I skipped a tick of the counter; you are still getting up to 10 turns worth of usage.
CHAIN ROOM MAP UPDATE:
(Nox, Bone, Dredge, Talon, and Grixx are up next.)
(@Superbad: Final damage on the one attack that hits, including Sneak Attack damage, is 27 instead of 39. The damage roll mistakenly interpreted the attack roll as a crit.)
Looking forward to put at least this one giant down, Bone shoots three more arrows out of his magical bow. The kenku knows this is not one of his best performances, as only one of the flying arrows manage to sink into his foe's skin. That is enough, however, as the giant slumps forward with the help of the momentum he was using to get back to his platform (Deformed Giant#1 - CMD: 307 -> DEFEATED).
Talon sees the help offered and dashs to get as far as he can from these horrible monsters.
He grabs the rope and attempts to climb up and move into Vigilances aura as he tries to avoid another attack from these psychic giants.
Athletics check with disadvantage: 3
Talon fails to get up the rope. He will try to use the last of his movement to end at BQ,62 in order to duck down and avoid the line of sight of the remaining giants.
(Move 5 ft to BQ,69 grab rope. Attempt to climb up the rope 10 ft and move another 5ft to BP,68 and then move to BO,69 (within Vigilance aura.)
fail the attempt at climbing and move to BQ,62 and duck down a little, the walls are 5 feet and 10 feet and according to the PHB Dwarfs stand well under 5 feet tall so ducking might not even be necessary :-) )
Bonus Action: move spiritual weapon 20 feet north (up on the map) to BU, 65
Grixx feels his strength return and is overcome with emotion and relief as he thought himself doomed. He makes a note to thank the centaur and wobbles with all his movement to BO,72.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(@Laserwhit: I'm going to have to re-interpret your turn. Your desired move still requires a 5-foot climb. Since you are a cursed dwarf, I'll say that this would also require an athletics check. Since you already tried one this turn and failed, I'll say that instead you are stopping at {BQ68}. Also, what you described basically amounts to a hide action. Since you already used your action this turn on the 'failed' dash up the rope, I'll say instead that you use your remaining movement to voluntarily fall prone in hopes of getting cover from the 5-foot step do your west, and the 10-foot step to your north.)
Talon's muscles feel stiff and slow. He fails to pull himself up the rope and settles instead for an uncertain attempt at hiding by throwing himself on the floor (i.e. prone). He also brings his floating holy weapon a bit closer.
(@Palfatreos: Because they are coins, I'll say they can all occupy the same space if you want them to. They aren't right now. Also, seven of the ten coins have enough movement to attack the northeastern giant now that the southeast giant is dead. I'll use the first two rolls of the first batch of five and then all of the rolls in the second batch. Also, five crits in ten rolls?! That's insane!)
Nox's coins converge on the northeastern target, although three of them do not quite reach the giant. Out of the other seven, four manage to be so accurate that they hit the giant's eye (Deformed Giant#2 - CMD: 101). The tabaxi piles on the damage with some more of his patron-sponsored blasts (Deformed Giant#2 - CMD: 129).
Dredge begins to move back into the stairwell to signal to his companions that he is ready to move on (Dredge no longer has a visual on the giants.) Before doing so, he forces the northeastern giant to dodge another lightning bolt:
-> Deformed Giant#2's DEX saving throw {DC 16}: 14 - the dull-skinned giant takes the bolt to the head this time around (Deformed Giant#2 - CMD: 145).
Grixx tries to move out of the way, following Dredge's recommendation, but opens himself up for an attack in doing so:
-> Greatclub (melee weapon attack of opportunity with extra reach) vs Grixx: Attack: 31Damage: 32 bludgeoning.
Luck is on the zealot's side and the giant whiffs his Greatclub strike.
(@Grx: Technically, you are still at 0 HP, so you need to roll a DEATH saving throw as described in the Rage Beyond Death text. I'll roll this for you here to keep things moving. Bless still applies, as does Vigilance's aura as this is being rolled at the beginning of your turn. DEATH saving throw: 13 - (successes: 0, failures: 2))
Both of the giants to the west charge their eye blasts once again. One of them puts extra evil intent on it, aiming at Grixx. The other targets the next closest foe:
-> Grixx's CHA saving throw {DC 17} vs. Curse of the Evil Eye: 8 (which is rerolled into a 14 by Grixx's Fanatical Focus - reference) - Grixx takes 64 psychic damage (Here is the additional bonus from Bless, but not Vigilance's aura as Grixx has moved out of its range: 1). The barbarian's shoulders and back begin to bubble outward as his muscles become deformed like the giants' once again. (Grixx is back to having disadvantage on every STR and DEX ability check, saving throw, and attack. His speed is also halved to 20 feet.)
-> This attack also counts as another DEATH saving throw failure (successes: 0, failures: 3). At this point, Grixx is considered DEAD and stops rolling DEATH saving throws, but can continue to take his turns as normal because of Rage Beyond Death.
-> Vigilance's CHA saving throw {DC 17} vs. Evil Eye: 26 (already accounts for Bless + Aura of Protection) - Vigilance takes 31 psychic damage (already halved to account for the successful save).
The remaining giant swings it's enormous club at the foe who took Grixx's place:
-> Greatclub (melee weapon attack with extra reach) vs Vigilance: Attack: 25 Damage: 50 bludgeoning.
-> Greatclub (melee weapon attack with extra reach) vs Vigilance: Attack: 29 Damage: 43 bludgeoning.
-> This should force Vigilance into an unconscious state (i.e. should start rolling DEATH saving throws).
-> Concentration on Bless is dropped as Vigilance is also incapacitated.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

-> This brings back Grixx from the dead and Vigilance from her unconsciousness.
The cleric then uses her tortle power (kawabanga!) to pull Vigilance out of harm's way as best as she can (spending her action to do so). Karwin ends at {BP70} and Vigilance at {BO69}.
