(For the life of me, I cannot recall any instances of someone's lockpick being broken, so...)
Khan shakes her head curtly. "Least you somehow remove other magics on things, that not so good idea. Not even think it so good idea to bother with stuff in case and more... Except maybe book. Might.. be means of reversing what's done."She grudgingly admits, rubbing her throat. Eventually she lets out a defeated sounding croak and enters the room for a closer look at the cases and their lock.
"... An-mm-..."Khan catches herself, then looks over to the green Grung. "B'leep... You still have tools? Think maybe you open that way? If not, mine as well let big dog smash through."She request, assuming the grung hadn't
The group discusses possible alternatives. Saros suggests breaking one of the glass cases from a distance but Khan disagrees. The orange grung suggests a more delicate approach, asking Bleep (and maybe Ang too) to step forward with a set of thieves' tools. Nonetheless, should that fail, Khan agrees that breaking the glass might be the way to go. Should they go with the more brutal alternative, she expects Darrena/Hyenik to deliver the blow.
There is also some disagreement on which case to target first. Saros opts for the case containing the tinderbox-like metal item, while Khan prefers to aim for the thick tome first.
The only people within the Study Library at the moment are Khan and Darrena/Hyenik.
"Khan - that book is what Darrik & I were sent to recover, we have helped you in finding the other grungs, now it is your turn to help us achieve ours, so it would be preferable if you try another case first rather than risk triggering something that might damage the book"

(@Drache: A thieves' tools check is simply a straight DEX ability check for which you get to add your proficiency bonus if you are proficient with the tool. For Bleep, that translates into a 1d20+4+3 roll. You should only roll the sleight of hand check along with it if you are trying to unlock something without other people around you noticing that you are doing so.)
While Saros and Khan continue to find things to disagree on, Bleep follows the received orders and approaches the glass case housing the the thick, upright tome. With one hand, the green grung holds the padlock. With the other, he works the lock with the help of his tools. It takes a few seconds but the padlock eventually comes undone. The motion of removing the padlock from the little door's latch forces the glass door open somewhat, but not enough for Bleep to reach for the book. Noticing that nothing has really happened, Bleep instinctively moves for the prize, pulling the glass door open a bit more so he can reach for the tome. However, upon touching the glass, Bleep simply and suddenly disappears.
@Bleep:
You find yourself still inside the Study Library, although your vision seems a little blurry, or perhaps the walls and objects around you are simply not fully well-defined. You can't move or talk, feeling completely paralyzed. You are no longer about to reach into the glass case, but instead seem to have assumed a sitting position on the ground, lost in your thoughts. Your party is nowhere to be seen but you see two humanoids in front of you. They also seem to be paralyzed. One is a tall, bipedal, black-feathered humanoid who is standing behind the Study Library's lectern. The other is another green grung, who has its back facing you and seems to be positioned as if reading a book.
Everyone just outside the Study Library, or inside it, sees Bleep suddenly puff out of existence. The glass case that he unlocked is now wide open. One could reach in to get the thick, upright tome easily.

Thar said, the grungs djsappearance does get Saros thinking about the conjuration magic on the pictures and he wonders whether there could be any link and he go and look at all the paintings hung looking for any clues that those images might contain.
He will also grab the pendant and see if he can sense the grung...calling out mentally to him to see what happens
Khan is taken aback for a moment. But the moment Ang(or anyone for that matter) gets too close to the case, her words come out sharp, warning them away from the glass. Regardless of whether or not this comes to pass, she at least slowly steps up to the place where the green Grung once stood, hands trembling a little while scanning the stop he'd been in passively.
"No... No, no, no. Not gone." She mutters harshly, refusing the "truth" set before them. If Wierdling had such magic at his disposal, fighting them would've been pointlessly trivial. And while she didn't understand the various schools of magics to a T, having seen the apprentice at least teleport once, she looked for more changes in the rest of the room. If none are in sight, she finally says of Saros after having turned back to the book, "Wierdling... You ask what he value most. Truly most, Saros."She states. And depending on the answer, she'll either follow the gnomes example or test prodding the book by gently lobbing one sling bullet at it. Then another at the glass.

Charged with babysitting duties, Ghee proposes that a less-scared Gnator an a now freed Celest join him in taking a stroll. They agree and, curiosity taking the best of them, suggest that they look around the other rooms in this floor as they never had a chance to do so before. Ghee nods and takes them to the nearest room, which happens to be the Study Lab. Upon seeing the hanging bodies, the girl and the gnome let out a synchronized yelp, moving to Ghee's back in fear.
(@MB: If you'd like a refresher on what this room looks like, check out this post and maybe this other one too.)
(OOC: Hmmm... Many folks looking around but @Grimnir was the only one who rolled a related check. Please roll you dice, folks.)
Bleep's disappearance catches everyone by surprise. Saros and Darrik quickly confer to see if they can deduce what happened, though the hyena can do little but point around with his muzzle and pat with its paws. Meanwhile, Ang enters the room to look around but Khan tries to deter her, possibly for her own safety.
@Saros & @Darrik: You reckon that the trap had a conjuration nature to it similar to that used in simple teleportation spells. You doubt it was powerful enough to take the green grung to a different plane of existence, but that is all you gather from what you were able to observe. Mentally reaching out to Bleep while holding the periapt results in no response.
@Khan: A general look around the room reveals little. Your spatial awareness is quite well developed, but it picks up no major change in the room around you. When you reach out to Saros, he is busy trying to telepathically reach Bleep, so he doesn't immediately respond to your request. Gently throwing a sling bullet on the upright tome produces nothing but a low thud. The bullet bounces off and comes to a stop on the ground. Gently throwing a second sling bullet at the case produces a faint crack on the glass, although the piece of ammo disappears immediately afterwards.
@Ang: The urge to find out what happened to Bleep leads you to disobey your commander, just a little bit. You avoid getting close to the glass cases so that Khan doesn't get mad at you, but you still enter and look around the room. Once you are deep enough in the room, something picks up your interest. You remember Bleep mentioning after your first search about the room that the painting in the far wall, the one that faithfully reproduces the Study Library itself, showed two humanoids in there. Interestingly enough, you notice a third one there now. A closer looks reveals that two of them are shorter than the third. In fact, the two short ones have green colored skin. Wait, are they grungs? Bleep! Bloop! And...a tall Omen wearing clothes?
(@MB: Meant to ask this way earlier, but is Ghee ushering the civies or trying to get everyone else in the room to leave?)
Khan flexes her fingers as if readying to do something perhaps unwise, only to hesitate at Ang's shout. Looking towards the painting, she has to get up close to be certain, before her eyes then grow wide in surprise. "Not just B'leep. But other brother as well. Bird... too?" She cocks her head to the side at that, only to then shake it rapidly and look to Saros. "Trapped they are. Trapped good. Will tearing work? Maybe smash glass?" She asked without the usual edge of hostility to her tone.
If the answer is anything less than a helpful one, Khan expression turns storm for a moment, before she then looks back to the book in the case, if none had reached in to snatch it up. If so, and if it looked possible to grab it without touching the glass, then she'll reach in to grab it. If not, she'd load up a slingshot bullet and ready to fire as many shots as necessary to break the case if Saros or his cohort didn't come up with an alternatives quick.
Ghee directs the gnome and the girl (the 3Gs, if you will) over to the next closest door, which is also opened. They see a very comfortable bed chamber. The four-post bed could easily support three large people based on how wide it is. There is a small desk, a coffee table, a pair of comfy chairs, and a large wardrobe in this room as well, all very well made. A skin of familiar jaguar-like pattern adorns the floor. It is not hard to discern that this is Lord Weirding's personal bed chamber.
Celest smiles a bit and says:"I haven't seen this room since my mother passed. She used to let me jump on the bed." She seems comforted by the memory.
Ghee notices that the bed and most of the other furniture pieces seem like they haven't been used in a long time.
Ang calls everyone's attention to the painting on the back wall. Khan confirms the purple grung's finding and ponders how to free the three prisoners. She refers back to the arcane expert in the group but doesn't stay idle while waiting for a response. Instead, the orange grung takes advantage of the fact that Bleep managed to open one of the glass cases' doors open before disappearing. Khan thinks she is able to grab the book without touching the glass, and as such, reaches for the upright tome. She pulls it out without any additional complications.
The book's cover is hard and tinted in a dark blue color. Intricate golden designs adorn it in strange angular but abstract shapes. There are no words on the cover or the spine of the book, but the first page reads: "Brain Dead, a Psionic’s Guide to Necromancy"
(OOC: If anyone would like to examine the painting more closely now that Ang has pointed it out, please roll an arcana check.)
