Thank you. You’re not the first person who’s used some of the backgrounds here for NPCs. I’m glad to know it helps some folks. If you need/want some full-on ready to go NPCs I have a bunch published that you can find in these other threads too; (it pleases me o no end when people add them to their collections for use in their home games):
It was a bitter cold day when I met that stranger who started me on this path I now walk. Before, I was a young man alone in the world, and without the means to do much of anything myself. After I met the stranger I have never been alone, for he is always in my mind, and now I have real power the likes of which I had never even dreamed of before.
I was once a poor farmer. Then, gnolls invaded my town, I helped fend them off, rake and sword in hand, but their were to many, only I survived the invasion. Now, I travel round trying to protect other cities and people and make sure they dont have to suffer a similar event like I did.

I study geology. Some people I recently befriended freed an unspeakable evil and now they are trying to clean up the mess they created. They are young and unskilled, so I will lend a hand as best as I can.
There was once a noble called Lord killian and I was a soldier in his service, the commoners in his fiefdom were starving and rioted. I was imprisoned after I refused to lead a charge into the rioters but I escaped prison and swear to return and free them from the yoke of this despot. When I return I will rid the world of Lord Killian but, until then, I am just a man on the run.

The Weave is an essential element of the universe, running through everything in unseen threads. Some creatures, objects, and locations have deep, intrinsic ties to the Weave and can perform extraordinary feats that come naturally to them (a beholder’s flight, a vampire’s charming gaze, a dragon’s breath weapon, and so forth). Creatures with the necessary talent and skill can also manipulate the Weave to perform magic by casting spells. The Weave isn’t magic, precisely, any more than a collection of threads is a garment; it’s the raw material from which the tapestry of magic is woven. The goddess Mystra is the Weave. She is its keeper and tender. Since the end of the Spellplague, Mystra has chosen champions to protect the Weave in material plane from any who wish to exploit it. A sign given at birth dictates those who are chosen. Morgan and Jaren Duskpool are twin wood elves, on the night of their birth the full moon flashed red in the sky, signifying their destiny. Since they were old enough to hold a weapon, they have trained as hunters, slayers of any creature seeking to seize or abuse the Weave. Morgan followed the traditions of his mother, becoming a ranger. Jaren followed the traditions of his father, joining a group of blood hunters and taking the Hunter’s Bane rite. Once deemed “ready” the brothers set off to track and hunt the evil that besieged the material plane. They fought fiend, fey, aberration, and the creatures of the night across the realm. During one such hunt, Morgan and Jaren were ambushed by evil cultists, and Morgan was taken captive. Jaren found him and knew he could not rescue him without becoming something else. He returned to his order and underwent “the Taming”—the ceremonial infliction of lycanthropy. After rescuing Morgan, the two of them continue on their quest to protect the Weave, setting out to new and strange lands to continue their quest.
Kale an almost middle aged half elf in appearance whose barely maintained gear suggest he was once a soldier, but his overall apearance belies the last few decades he spent in remote isolation as a hermit following the collapse of his marriage and death of his daughter under mysterious circumstances.
He has returned upon learning of another veteran from his past suffering the loss of their child and in the process helping his former colleague locate his missing child sadly only managing to bring her body home.
With the help of his current party they located her murderer a demon cultist whose cult has links to the death of his own child, he now has to face his past and know the enemy he bested all those years ago has returned and seeking more sacrifices something he must thwart once and for all!
Forged to fight the wars I was taken in by a gregarious gaggle of Dwarves. They helped repair me and as homage to them I have entered their faith. Somehow I have ended up on the Sword Coast and was able to make some dragons sharing descriptions of monsters to a cheery person of the name Volo! My group has taken on the task of finding his friend and my little time spent in the City Watch will surely help us along the way.
churp chirp, sound of rushing air, angry human shout of "bloody vermin!", sound of arrow in flight, pained chirrup, sound of small feathered creature hitting ground transitions into sound of pained humanoid with arrow sticking out of their chest.
or translating into common.....
As a small pidgeon-esque bird I flew magestically through the air and over the city walls in an attempt to get out of paying the toll to enter the city only to have a guard shoot at me with his bow. I hit the ground hard and returned to my natural form, still bird like but nolonger able to fly. At least I'm in the city and didn;t have to pay for entry.
(and so starts the ballad and adventures of a lvl 2 Kenku Druid)

He remembers the flames - he remembers his arm getting cut off, he remembers his death - and things only got worse from there..
Because, those that died alongside him have never left, and are always calling to him, talking to him, yelling at him - seeking him out as some sort of tiny flame in the blackness that is The After.
They say "dead men tell no tales" but they haven't met V'ratil, or walked a mile in his boots.
The green dragonborn Gormak once fought for greed, but when he found a holy symbol of Bahamut, the god spoke to him. "Spread my will of goodness and peace into the world, do not fail me." Gormak was astounded of the faith Bahamut put into him, and in turn but faith into Bahamut until he was a champion of the dragon god.

Bob grew up in a small pond/village and was once a charlatan of a duck. You might've even call him a quack.
But when his sorcererous powers passed onto him from a great Dracoduck of years past, revealed themselves, he quit his charlatan life and moved onto the adventuring one. As an adventurer, Bob fights for glory, fame, and gold.
Bob's fortune (D20, HIGHER ROLLS mean a better adventuring career by my metrics): 3

I once was a lady who lived in a shoe, With so many children I knew not what to do. Along came a giant who put on that shoe, And gobbled up all of my little ones too. So now I hunt giants with a new friend or two And when I meet him, I’ll run the beast through.
