I don't think there was ever a point where D&D didn't need that.
And yet they keep ignoring it.
Well, I didn't see this until early this week, so i can't put in any survey official opinions.
I will say that I'm disappointed that WotC is missing out on the chance for some "chipmunk" jokes. The Hazodee would make just as much sense if re-flavored as a flying squirrel humanoid with honest-to-Mob opposable thumbs.
Seriously, though, the Plasmoid and the Thri-kreen are the only really refreshing ideas here. For the Plasmoid, I would have gone with nixing Dark Vision to replace it with Tremor Sense, maybe out to 15 feet. It would be fun to replace vertebrate-default vision entirely to get Tremor Sense out to 60 feet, but that would probably be too radical for most players to accept.
Disappointed that the Thri-Kreen lost the standing leap ability. I get that it's one of the few truly Harengon traits, but far more than Telepathy or Darkvision, nothing says Mantis-folk to me more than having 6 limbs and being able to jump great distances a few times/short rest without burning a spell slot/going Warlock. Having 2 additional permanent limbs, though, is a pretty strong feature in the right hands. Or ambidextrous ones. I also think they're likely to nerf the Telepathy and place further restrictions on the 2 smaller limbs.
I think it was because both the UA and the book have "multiverse" in the title. Some folks really want their spellplanejamscape on and while WOTC was clear in its early press that MMM was going to be updates of existing 5e content, not everyone pays attention to the press releases and thought multiverse is going to be never seen in 5e stuff. Heck the book is out for the boxed set buyers now, and some people still think that new multiversal content is the case.

So we have Netherdeep coming out this month and MMM coming out in May. I am guessing the next book after that will have what ever made it through from this UA. I am thinking Campaign Setting Book for maybe August or September followed by an adventure book in October or November.
I just saw that dndnames posted generators for the UA races over the weekend. Looks like they expanded on the history content with a bit of spelljammer.
We should know more next week. They were to have had a presser today, with an embargo until the 22nd. So, there will probably be a pile of articles Tuesday.
And they tweeted out some weird graphic with crystals.

The one that mentions the Ethereal Plane? That made me wonder if they'll decide which model of the three they're going to use, or if they're going to start from scratch.
I wonder what the relationship between Journeys through the Radiant Citadel and Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse; possibly filling out social standard camping stuff.

This UA was never going to appear in Mordinkenin's. Not sure why people keep thinking that it was.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

Jander Sunstar is the thinking person's Drizzt, fight me.
To be fair, the titles are a bit confusing.

She/Her Player and Dungeon Master
Someone has already done a very good implementation of the Plasmoid. I have been using it for months.
Watch your back, conserve your ammo,
and NEVER cut a deal with a dragon!

WotC's latest hint on social media makes me think that we may see a Spelljammer release fairly soon.
She/Her Player and Dungeon Master
Of course there’s gonna be Spelljammer. Anyone who doubts it isn’t paying attention to which way the wind is blowing.

It is the "fairly soon' part that I was mostly getting at.

So it seems the big reveal was the Radiant Citadel adventure book. https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/adventures/journeys-through-the-radiant-citadel?icid_medium=ddb&icid_source=article&icid_campaign=radiant-citadel&icid_content=radiant-citadel

Wonder if we get more vehicle stuff.
