@Levi: It depends. I'd place money on the Armorer, but Archivist could take longer if they decide to keep playing around with psionics and want to roll it out with that. As for turret options, I agree we're in a good spot, but It's still be nice to have more, especially if they can come up with some more out-there stuff.

I agree with everything said here. I think they'd change the Archivist to not be psionics focused, because Dark Sun (the book psionics will probably show up in) is not known for its artificers.
I 100% expect the armorer and more infusion abilities, but I'm less sure on the Archivist. I want both, but I'd be happy with just one more option.
Also, yes, more turret options would be nice, I just don't think we need them.

Archivist? is that a calligraphers tools based artificer? A sort of author magic by the craft of writing?
Dragons breath would be fun with brewers supplies (the whole fire breath from the alcohol in your mouth). Otherwise it could work for painters supplies as dragons are a common tattoo/artwork.

The Archivist was an Artificer Subclass that didn’t actually make it to print, despite the fact that it was more popular (and balanced) than the Alchemist. You can read about it here:
I'm genuinely surprised to see someone in this sub-forum not know of the Archivist, since the Artificer class had been in UA for quite a while, and a lot of UA discussion was centered on the class.

well the thing is that the effect itself is very broad and could apply to almost any type of tools, if you have tinkers tools you give yourself or one of your friends an flamethrower or an hose that shoots acid from it or a pair of thunder gauntlets that shoot waves of electricity or if your are using one of your infused items to cast the spell you might divert the cooling systems of your armor of fire resistance into something offensive, if your are an alchemist you are making an potion of fire or lightning breathing and if you primarily use wands as your focus then the effect shoots out of your eldrich cannon or you give one of your allies an wand that can shoot that element. There are so many ways to flavour it that make it perfect for the reflavouring of an artificer and this is why i am so seriously annoyed about it not being on the list it fits so dam perfectly it is an touch spell so you have to be near somebody to give them one of your inventions and the spell itself can be reflavoured easily for almost any of the spellcasting foci typically used by an artificer, you can even use calligraphers tools and nonsense rune magic to justify it, it just fits way better than most of the spells already on the list and i am so seriously annoyed like i almost feel it might be a missprint or that they forgot about the spell or forgot the effect or something, the spell says that the effect originates from your mouth but that does not mean you cannot reflavour it to come from someplace else

I agree 100% about Dragon’s Breath, I was honestly surprised it wasn’t the only spell in an expanded spell list for Artificers in the Class Feature Variants UA.
You could argue leomund's tiny hut should have been on the Artificer list too, as it could be reflavored as spending 11 minutes making a makeshift hut with arcane runes in it or something.

So, yes, my current speculation is that they dropped Archivist to just publish the Artificer class with only 3 subclasses so people could get the hang of it while still having a good amount of options. It's probably good of them to wait for the next player options book to publish more subclasses and options.

I honestly would have preferred the Archivist to the released Alchemist. The Archivist needed serious revision because of how potent the "pet" AI and its associated features were, but it was more interesting to me and fit into the whole psionics thing they're working on now.
Alchemist is a quintessential artificer archetype, it would be actually absurd to not have it as one of the original 3 classes.
And yet that didn't stop them from making it the least workable of the three initial subclasses. In other words, I'm not saying they shouldn't have released the Alchemist. I'm saying that what they released was so not to my liking that I would have taken the Archivist over it. There's nothing I can do if you have an issue with that sentiment.
The Archivist was actually fairly popular according to the surveys. It wouldn’t surprise me if they reserved it specifically so they could include it in a future publication to drive sales for that product
Meh, I like it. It's not the best, but it's been fun every time I've played it and the few players I've had try it out enjoyed it as well. I understand if someone were to think it was lame, though.
Unrelated note, but I wouldn't mind a necromancy themed artificer.. Maybe like an old timey grave-robbing surgeon that uses necromancy and medicine to assist in dealing with injuries.

It's ok Ranger, you'll always be cool to me.. Unless druid gets another use for its wild shape charges.

So....Dr. Frankenstein? Or someone like the stitchers in MTG's Innistrad setting?
And while you say it's unrelated, alchemy is very much related to that kind of theme.
Frankenstein would be a good example, yea. I had actually planned on making something similar as a homebrew artificer class for my campaign setting since it's set in the fantasy equivalent of the late 1800's-early 1900's, but the more I think about it, the more I'd like for it to be artificer's 'dark' class.

100% if they were to make a necromancy based artificer subclass, they'd save it for an Innistrad book. I have a feeling these M:tG books are going to be going on for a long time, so it seems like they're going to wait until then to make a fleshmancer.

the pop culture corpse idiot Frankenstein's monster or the Frankenstein's monster from the original book who is much more intelligent and also a citizen of the uncanny valley rather than pure hideous flesh?
and also would be a nice excuse to add animate dead to the artificer tool kit for their expanded spell list, we already got flesh golems at 10th level makable.
Also anyone else miss the whole mechanic of every artificer subclass reducing craft time and gold cost for one type of magic item? I get that they might have felt it was to limiting or too overpowered, and that is why it is an lesser 10th level feature, but i would very much like it if it makes it to a class feature variants because fast healing potions at 3rd level was an major boon for alchemists, as would be scrolls for the archivist, and i just feel like letting an artificer apply this bonus to any rarity of magic item would really motivate them to interact more with the crafting rules
again tho, an spell that lets an artificer create constructs would just be so cool, especially for this archetype and the battle smith

have they even made another M:TG book since like 2017? i thought they just like made a bunch of books in the plane shift series and then abandoned it completely
