I’m new to using homebrew on dnd beyond and would like to know if I can still use my characters that have homebrew stuff even after the subscription expires or am I locked out of those characters until the homebrew is removed, I have a hero subscription and won’t be getting paid until 2 weeks from now since it’s my first day at work on a biweekly paycheck, which means I would be a week without the subscription since it expires next week.
[for now] character limit is completely different than homebrew items, so you get to pick 6 characters, regardless if they have homebrew or not. Homebrew is completely irrelevant to that 6 character limit.
i say 'for now' as there's plans to restrict homebrews to subscriptions

Is that known, or purely speculative in the wake of recent controversies?
Creating, publishing, sharing with those in the same campaigns as you, and using your own homebrew and homebrew from campaigns you're in has always been free.
Adding published homebrew from the community requires the Hero tier subscription. But once it is in your collection, it is available to you.
There has been no word on them monetizing homebrew other than a leaked image from last August I believe and I am inferring that homebrew could cost something down the road based on the scuttlebutt that came out of the content creator summit yesterday..
I believe homebrew is free with no subscription. The subscription does give you the ability to share public homebrew. But private stuff should work fine without the subscription. Unless I’m mistaken

Is a subscription required to create and use my own homebrew content? It could be a good alternative for me for when my subscription expires.

I’ll create a fresh google account and test it
Yes. Anything on your character will remain and be usable after the subscription has expired.

Without subscription, I can make my own homebrew content, just can’t use the public homebrew content
No, a subscription is not required to use your own homebrew, a subscription is only required to add other people’s homebrew to your collection.
