As of today, May 17, Wizards of the Coast has discontinued Volo's Guide to Monsters and Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes, both stopping production of them and preventing players from buying the digital versions on D&D Beyond(though players get to keep digital versions of books they already bought). A link to a discussion about the removal. To replace the content in these books WotC released Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse. Many people have complained about these books for being stripped down versions of the old races and monsters, with removed or completely changed lore. While this may be the intention, as MotM is supposed to be setting-agnostic, should the original versions of the races and monster be lost to new players?
Again, this poll is just to get a solid view of how people view the removal of the books, and possibly get the developers' attention. There are several better places to debate the new book itself, which I will link below.

Clarification. When I put in the poll if WotC should continue producing these books, I meant if WotC should restart producing and selling Volo's and MToF, basically undoing what they did. I'm not talking about books like MotM. Voters might have already understood it, but I am just putting this here just in case.

I didnt vote in the second poll because I dont know if you talk about the books in digital or physical form , and I dont know if you say this books as they are or in an updated version with the new statblocks and the new race trend.

I'm talking about definitely digital, and probably physical. I'm also saying for it to be in the format it used to be, because MotM already has the new ones, so there's no need to print them in that format again.

I don't think WotC should be obligated to continue producing physical books, but I don't like that they took it off the marketplace. That is the equivalent of issuing a recall and pulling it off shelves, not simply discontinuing it.
Over all I think the situation is fine. I didn't see any races hit with an obvious nerf (besides Aaracokra, but they honestly kind of deserved it, and they still gained a spell and increased natural weapon and walking speed, so not strictly worse just balanced). Most races were even buffed.
I do think that the heavily changed races like kobolds, goblins, and hobgoblin don't deserve to lose their original stats.
When did D&D become about playing the game the RIGHT way? Just let consumers vote with their wallets rather than forcing a flawed morality on them.
Pretty much.
If it's unprofitable to sell a book like VGtM, then that's fine, I don't expect a company to be selling something at a loss. What I'm tired of is being told how I can play D&D at my table. I'm not allowed to use this resource, I'm not allowed to have that at my table.
They don't want it to be canon? No problem. Slap a "Legends" sticker on the front and be done with it, like Star Wars. There is no need to try and force a change on people. If people don't like Volo's,.they won't buy it.

This is silly. They're a company and they can do whatever they want with their products. They don't need to lose money because 3 people really liked the older books but decided not to buy them for like 5 years. Things get phased out all the time. It's not like they won't be available secondhand or by PDF or whatever for those who are truly motivated to acquire them.

I agree! Everyone should go out and vote with your wallets right now! Hit those FLGSs and buy a copy of Volo's and Mort's to show them that they are still popular!

Are you honestly saying that it was unprofitable to have them on DDB?
Also, since WotC are so set against PDFs, there is no legal way to get one, so far as I'm aware.

They're against PDFs for current books; they do have them available from older editions, and for certain other supplements like the Tortle Package or the Elemental Evil Player's Guide, so it's not entirely outside the realm of possibility.🤷♂️

Yeah maybe. I think that would resolve some of the concerns. However, I don't know if it will happen, though. Unless the real reason is some guy manipulating sales in order to make MotM seem more successful by removing competition, I think it would run counter to their purposes to release a PDF - at least until 6e when they stop caring about piracy for 5e and release all the PDFs. DDB is just too cheap for keeping and individual books on sale for this to be simply about profits.

I would like to see an appendix of all the discarded lore available for sourcing. There are pirate sites claiming to have pdfs of the original manuals. I do not and dont want to support that method of getting material. Respectfully, I would like to see the lore kept. Sage Advice Ancient Lore Edition would be a cool thing to see.
I dont even know why they got rid of Volo's and Mordenkainens, but since I think their just trying to sell their new book better and not caring about the consequences, I voted "No", then "Yes".

Scarcity of infinite digital goods: probably one of the greatest scams ever invented... thanks WotC for bringing it to D&D...

Your telling me that I can buy the player's guide for AD&D, but Volvo's Guide to Monsters is too outdated?

It's sad because MotM doesn't even have all the races from MToF anyway... the series of Tiefling Varients weren't reprinted and now they're lost.
