So, I just found out that apparently I have the exact same personality type (INTP-A) as Tolkien. So that's neat. And apparently Frodo, Arwen, and Johnny Depp also have the same personality type (at least, the INTP part). Just thought that was cool and wanted to share it.
Well, the personality types aren't definite (and are probably less accurate for fictional characters). Maybe she's right on the cusp between INFP and INTP. (Like, 48% F, 52% T or something).
I would be equally skeptical of any "this historical figure was this Myers-Briggs Type". Unless the individual was actually tested, the type is really more of an estimate based often on secondary or tertiary sources, rather than on the individual themselves. Actually, I would be generally skeptical of the MBTI even for tested figures--despite its use by schools, businesses, and individuals generally, it is viewed by academics and psychologists as pseudoscience. I actually don't think I've ever seen it used in as an actual psychological profiling tool.
It's one of those things that is kind of fun to play around with, but really, really should be taken with a grain of salt, and one shouldn't base anything on their MBTI type.
I agree completely. With so many people on the planet, each different and unique in their own way, I'm not sure there'll ever be a completely accurate way to sort their personality types, especially because many would fit into multiple groups. But, hey, accurate or not, it's what we've got. As you said, just take it with a grain of salt, and don't think that it defines you or anything.
Just took the test. ENTJ.
And does it seem accurate?
Yeah. I'm very much a Commander type person, although more IRL.
Nice. Kinda curious what else everyone else here gets...?
I'm Exaos and I'm the most awesome thing in all multiverses. If anyone says otherwise they are either Ao, Solanar or Eris in disguise or my awesomeness is just to great for them to comprehend.
Is there anything about book Arwen that’s better than movie Arwen?
Nope. In the books she just exists to be a love interest for Aragorn. She doesn’t even get a personality.

I would say Neutral Good. Gandalf spends every moment in the story fighting for the benefit of everyone, man, elf, or hobbit alike, never putting himself above what is necessary for others to survive and thrive. This firmly puts him in the “Good” category. At the same time, he does not demonstrate an adherence to any mortal law, strict adherence to a divine law, or no dogmatic internal moral code that would rise to the level of “Lawful.” He clearly is not chaotic, since his every action is carefully calculated so as to be several steps ahead of his opponents.
Now, Wormtongue might try to argue the Storm Crow is chaotic, but it is well-established that Gandalf does not cause the storm, but rides at its edges to bring warning of it.

Sauron vs Galadriel? I know we get the closest thing to an official answer in the hobbit movie, where Galadriel beats him, but let’s see what everyone thinks.

Ignoring the drivel that are the Hobbit movies, the answer is clearly Sauron. It is established in the canon that Sauron is the most powerful entity acting in Middle Earth, with the possible exception of Bombadil. Galadriel might cast down his fortress of Dol Guldur in the canon, but it is heavily indicated that is after Sauron has already left to rebuild his armies and reclaim Mordor.
I think Galadriel could beat him but not kill him. They’re both holdovers from the First Age of relatively equal power, but a lot of Sauron’s power is tied up in the Rings, one of which Galadriel wields uncorrupted.

Curious, where are you getting that they are "of relatively equal power"? I'll admit to not having a copy of the books I can flip through right now (I moved recently so the only copies I have not in a box somewhere I do not like handling overly much) for exact sources and could be mistaken in my analysis and would gladly accept sourced counteracting my memory.
As I see it, Galadriel might be powerful among the elves, but Sauron was among the greats of the Maiar, putting him a fair order of magnitude ahead of Galadriel in terms of power. Even before forging the One and drastically increasing his power, Sauron was sufficiently strong to kill Galadriel's brother, who I believe was indicated to be relatively commensurate with her non-Ringbearer power.
There is not much on Sauron's power after losing the ring, but we can still assume it was rather considerable. The Valar sent five lesser Maiar to serve as a check against the weakened Sauron, so we can assume the Valar believed he was still a considerable threat and needed to send sufficient strength to keep him in check. We know that it took the combined might of two elvish lords with their rings (including Galadriel) and three Maiar (one with the third elvish ring) to drive Sauron from Dol Guldur, again showing that, even weakened, his strength eclipses that of Galadriel alone.

Hmm. Good point. But she beats him decisively in the movie.
