Number 4 for me. I don't railroad, but sometimes I have to pull out a non-obvious Quantum Ogre since my players will often do something completely unexpected.
Player: "Actually, how about we just talk to the lich?"
Me: "Well, you'd have to roll pretty high just to get it to-"
Player: "32."
Me: "... he stops attacking for a second."
Player: *incredibly well-thought out and convincing reason for the lich to stop attacking and instead help the party*
Me: "... Roll persuasion..."
I can't make every villain violently insane, I can't prep for everything, and my party always build for combat (except that one guy...) and get frustrated when I don't let them shine... yet they still try and bypass every combat through diplomacy.

I'm definitely 4, but I'll see what da dice gods say:
(It was a 1 but rerolled when I edited it to add my thoughts on the roll. Ugh, I keep forgetting that's how it works.
Edit: Huh, well I do like the social side of things a lot. But it isn't my favorite part lol. What I enjoy doing most is just making goofy but kinda cool stuff and having players that are willing to adventure through it.

What I call my "Off Week Game" is very similar - we've made a joke (they're on a cursed island that has a cloud always over it, so it's perpetually night over the island) - and despite the number of encounters - the only thing they've not been able to befriend were the Sahuagin - so there's an ongoing joke now that the Sahuagin are the most evil beings in my world. Because they've befriended Kobolds (and helped set up a trade route with the town - town gives kobolds leathers, the kobolds give them a plant that grows in the swamp for healing potions) - and they befriended goblins. It's easily my favorite game because of all the RP they do and keep me always on my toes, forcing me to adapt and change the "plans" I had for what they've managed to do. It's incredibly fun.
I’m closest to the first one, I love the social aspect and how loose the game is compared to all the video games I usually play. It also gives me a chance to flex my creative muscles.
I also enjoy reading the sourcebooks and learning about how the game works.
If you had to choose JUST ONE - which would you say describes why you play D&D...
Love the social aspect of it. The RP and rolling dice are side effects. Mostly just like hanging out.
I love rolling dice. I love the chance of it all. RP and social are just effects. Vegas, here I come!
I love to RP. I love the chance of stepping outside of who I am. Rolling dice and non-RP social is just a side effect.
I am almost always the Dungeon Master. But I love weaving new stories. RP, rolling dice, and social is a side effect. Mostly want my victims - I mean - players - to go through what I came up with.
I am almost always the Dungeon Master and I love the ability to RP a bunch of different characters. Story, social, dice are all side effects.
I am almost always the Dungeon Master and I love rolling dice. I love creating challenging adventures. Doesn't need to be heavy story, just a challenge for my players so they can roll a bunch of dice and so do I.
I realize there's some that are a mix to probably better describe you - but wanted to stick with the above for a reason.
For bonus fun - since there's 6 up there, use the d6 in the forum to see what the forum hands you!
I’m 3. Would be 5 if I got to DM more often.

That goes to my “Three Legged Table” premise, which states that all TTRPGs (IRL & PbP/VTT) are played at a metaphorical “three leggende table.” The three legs holding it up are:
The “social” leg/aspect (the enjoyment of spending time with friends)
The “game” leg/aspect (the enjoyment of playing a game, ie rules & mechanics et al)
The “RP/Story” leg/aspect (the enjoyment of the role play itself)
As long as all of the players at any given table are generally balanced over or around the same leg(s) in the roughly similar proportions, the table runs smoothly. Frictions occur at the table when one or more players are proportionally balanced over or around a different leg(s) from the rest of the party. For example, if one person is mostly just in it to spend time with friends, and the rest are all about “the game” and the mechanics and RAW, etc., that’s when disharmony begins to happen at that table. It goes for any of the three “legs.”
Question of the day: What’s your favorite Holliday dinner? What Holliday, and what does it consist of?
Halloween. Candy.

Question of the day: What’s your favorite Holliday dinner? What Holliday, and what does it consist of?
Right up until 2020, it was Halloween. The Pandemic, however, crushed Halloween beneath its heel and it's never recovered (at least where I live).
For example, prior to 2020 - at work - we'd do a major Halloween thing out in the campus lawn. So many people used to dress up. We'd do contests and all that. That has all stopped.
I dressed up this year - and in my building - two other people dressed up. And there's about 200 to 300 people in my building between the two floors.
Since 2020, really it's pretty much been Thanksgiving or Christmas, because I get together with friends (some whom I may not have seen for a long time).
The dinner itself, as in food, has never been important (for Thanksgiving or Christmas), it's always about the company around me that's blessed my life.
Question of the day: What’s your favorite Holliday dinner? What Holliday, and what does it consist of?
I think I would pick Thanksgiving. We usually make cheesy potato soup and some traditional Southern dishes with our family which are pretty good, but we also invite some great Middle Eastern friends over and they grill kabobs, pile plates with pounds of pulao, make mouth-watering mantu, and much more. Those are the best meals I ever have.
Unfortunately some of those friends moved to another state so we haven’t been able to have dinners with them for a while. We have talked about them coming down and visiting us for Thanksgiving so hopefully we will be able to see them soon.

. . . Okay, so mine is Halloween candy. But Thanksgiving is nice too!
(For me, it’s not about the family. It’s about the food.)

Roast turkey gravy mashed potatoes stuffing cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving
