Anybody else about to spend the day playing Baldur's Gate 3? I'm hyped, I haven't touched the early access version.
I've not gotten Baldur's Gate 3, mostly because I am not sure the machine I have could run it sufficiently.
I am right there with you.
Same boat here. But that won't stop me from watching other people play it and getting very jealous. It looks so cool!
I've tried to play the first two Baldur's Gates to compensate, but I just can't get behind them. Not because they're 2e, because they're not turn based. Who the hell makes a D&D game that isn't turn based?
Video games are not usually turn based. Especially 3D games that involve fighting. I should know.
Maybe you've never heard of the grandfather of RPGs called Wizardry that was indeed turn based?
Because if you haven't - you should.
I should know. (Because I am old enough to remember them)
So far I've made my guy, a duergar with cool eyeliner and an uninspiring beard. Can't find a voice that's even a little bit gruff, but we'll make do. I'm carrying 120 pounds of junk already, but don't worry, I'm not halfway to medium encumbered yet.
It seems like healing potions are really common and really necessary.

As someone growing an aspiring Wizardly beard (with entirely too much grey and white these days!) - ye should post a picture of said dwarf. :-D
Have you read through the 5e Theros lore? You remind me a bit of the iconoclast leonins found in that setting.
Wasn't thinking of it when I wrote it here or "settled" the matter in the game world, but yeah, the Iconoclast thing in Theros (I forget whether it's a background or a non believer 0stand in for some sort of divine touch PCs in Theros can have, and I didn't know it was a Leonin thing, thought it was general character option) definitely resonates with the agnostics in my games turns. But agnostics aren't on some sort of heroic journey to explicitly defy the gods. Some are definitely d---s about their position, but most treat the divine forces that occasionally reach into their world to be something more like weather or earthquakes.
Video games are not usually turn based. Especially 3D games that involve fighting. I should know.

Jander Sunstar is the thinking person's Drizzt, fight me.
I can’t disappear for even a minute without pure chaos erupting…
I’m excited for Baldur’s Gate, and as someone who’s been away from video games for a bit, that’s a big step for me! I’ve played Dead Cells a bit sometime earlier this year, and I really enjoyed it, but I’ve been so busy… This one looks like quality though!
Heh - was going through the hard drive and found the silly story that was being written... figured, maybe start wrapping that up, otherwise my brain remembering I started this will not be happy... so we begin moving towards a conclusion...
Writer’s Note: This madness is something out of sheer boredom. It all began when AllMightyLordOfDND assigned races and classes to people who were participating in the thread. He was basing it on people’s responses, avatars, signatures (I am not sure what his formula was). But I was bored, and decided to start writing… I can’t even call it a story. I will call it an “Attempt To Curb My Boredom.” It keeps going, and no idea how long it will even go for. I have no plans where this story is going, as the conversations in the thread often dictate where the story is headed.
The Royal Highness The Prince Toadtickler, the Bullywug, Duke of Mud Burrow, Earl of Vast Depths, Baron Murk Eater, Royal Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Coven, Extra Knight of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Frog Elite, Member of the Order of Merit, Grand Master and First and Principal Knight Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the Despair Swamp Empire, Knight of the Order of Fey Wild Dark, Additional Member of the Order of the Coven Elite, Extra Companion of the Mealladh’s Service Order, Royal Chief of the Order of Dark Water, Extraordinary Companion of the Order of Gloomhaven, Extraordinary Commander of the Order of Military Merit, Lord of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council, Privy Councillor of the Queen’s Privy Council for Duskhaven, Personal Aide-de-Camp to Her Majesty, Lord High Admiral of the Swamp of Despair (1) leaned forward and looked at AllMightyLordOfDND. “He’s a deity you say?”
“Indeed,” IAMsposta nodded. “He’s was on the Mortal Plane. I am not sure why he was, or what his purpose was. I am not even sure he knows.”
AllMightyLordOfDND looked stunned, “I am no deity.”
IAMsposta turned, his Satyr eyes focused on AllMightyLordOfDND, “Then tell me who you are. Tell me about your past.”
AllMightyLordOfDND opened his mouth as if he was about to say something; but his memory only had gone back a few months. Everything prior to that… was blank. “I can’t remember who I am,” he confessed. “That much is true, but that does not make me some deity.”
“Don’t you see,” IAMsposta explained. “That’s why both your form has changed from Halfling, to elf, to dwarf, to human, and you seem to encompass the abilities of a fighter, paladin, wizard, druid – it’s because you’re trying to recall who you are. If you were a mortal, you would not be able to do that. Even the greatest wizard who can polymorph themselves can change what they’re capable of.”
“You prattle too much Satyr,” Prince Toadtickler growled. “He knows not if he’s a deity! What good is he to me? Tell the truth, Satyr, why do you and your kind dare tread through my swamp? Tell me why I shouldn’t just hand you to the dreaded green hag, Queen of the Feywild, Mealladh?”
IAMsposta sneered at this. “Do it. We’ve come to find Mealladh and put an end to her. She’s just one chain in the things we need to do. We’re here to restore order to the O'Gee'Elle, and putting her down is going to make that, that much easier. Her foul presence corrupted the O'Gee'Elle and you know why I want to put her down. It’s personal between she and I.”
As IAMsposta and Prince Toadtickler debated back and forth, Theology of Bagels was looking at AllMightyLordOfDND, after being “revealed as a deity” and seemed lost in thought; their mind deep in a trance, when suddenly they opened their eyes wide and yelled, “The Satyr is right! AllMightyLordOfDND is a deity! Or a fragment of one! I was in prayer – and my deity, Biadh, deity of gluttony confirmed! AllMightyLordOfDND is a part of the constellation of the deity of hope! A passing murder comet impacted into the part of the constellation sending large fragments of it spiraling about – one crashed into the world and the impact sent a shock wave that rippled and killed many people in surrounding villages. The forms and abilities AllMightyLordOfDND takes is the spirits that became entwined in their celestial energy and they took form in AllMightyLordOfDND!”
Prince Toadtickler stopped debating with IAMsposta and looked back and forth between the goblin cleric, Theology of Bagels and AllMightyLordOfDND. Theology of Bagels ran up to AEDorsay and shouted, “You must cast Wish and restore him! Do it now!”
AEDorsay thought this was a wild idea; but in the confusion as Prince Toadtickler was barking commands at the bullywugs to stop her; the spidery words of magic fell from her lips her finger pointed to AllMightyLordOfDND and she completed the spell.
A white light burst from AllMightyLordOfDND, sending everyone flying back, blinded. A deafening humming sound followed, that pierced their eyes, and sent the Bullywugs scampering down their tunnels blindly, while the others felt their ear drums burst and blood pouring out their ears.
What came next sounded like a massive explosion.
And everyone blacked out.
At that same time, above the ground, Sirtawmis had just growled that the others must have been captured by bullywugs, when the ground began to rumble violently. The swamp water began to bubble. Sirtawmis shouted, “Thorrison! Get out of the …”
But the warning had come too late; Thorrison who was further ahead in the swamp trying to find evidence of where the others had been taken was suddenly consumed in a white burst that erupted from the ground below – and everyone else was thrown back hundreds of feet as a blinding white light shot into the heavens.
When they regained consciousness, Sirtawmis was shouting for the others – the surrounding trees around the swamp had been knocked down – and Sirtawmis managed to find Amnon_Balderk, Quar1on, ChoirOfFire and BoringBard – but both Drakenbrine and Thorrison were nowhere to be found.
“What the Hades was that?” BoringBard asked, as ChoirOfFire and Sirtawmis pulled a fallen tree off the dragonborn bard.
“An awakened god fragment,” ChoirOfFire explained. “I could feel it,” the Tiefling Paladin explained.
“Well, damn,” Sirtawmis sighed. “IAMsposta told me that the one who called himself AllMightyLordOfDND was some kind of deity – his Feywild eyes could see he was different. I wonder if that’s who it was and how it happened… and,” Sirtawmis helped BoringBard up and made his way to the large hole. “I wonder if we just go down that hole if we will find the others.”
Down in the bullywug caverns below the swamp…
IAMsposta awoke screaming, the Satyr holding his ears. There was still blood, but it’d been dry, but his ears were still ringing so loudly that everything seemed to have a faint echo sound as he heard AEDorsay shouting for others. IAMsposta realized he was partially buried beneath rocks and called out for help.
Slowly, those beneath the bullywug caves, which had collapsed, were able to regroup – however, there was no sign of Theology of Bagels, Antonsirius, The_Summoning_Dark, AllMightyLordOfDND or Stertle09. They tried to recall just what had happened.
“When I cast Wish, I noticed AllMightyLordOfDND was consumed with light – and that as the light went outward, Theology was consumed by the light – and the holy light seemed to have also destroyed Stertle09, who as a Dhampir may have been released from his half-life state. But there’s no sign of Antonsirius and The_Summoning_Dark.”
Several moments later, voices from above were shouting. Midnightplat, whose ears were still ringing loudly managed to hear it and shouted back – hoping it was either of their missing companions, Antonsirius or The_Summoning_Dark; but it was not. It was ChoirOfFire shouting down from the opening that she and the others had climbed down.
They each asked the other group where the missing people were; but each shook their head and explained how they’d vanished in the white light. Together, they helped one another climb out of the cave and return to the surface.
The party moved somberly through the swamp, speaking very little, until they finally reached the exit of the swamp to the east and entered Tallis Wood, where the stopped and set up camp. Each of them gazed into the flickering flames, shadows cast upon the towering trees, the only sound to break the silence, the crackling of the camp fire wood as ashes ascended into the skies…

Welcome to Part 19… Let’s Wrap This Up.
