...I actually did a lot of research on plague doctors (bc I'm weird, random, and kinda insane like that and wanted to buy a plague doctor suit (which I did)), and they actually don't worship the plague, they try to stop it. For some reason, people still think it's a bad omen when they see one, though. Maybe because they don't know actual medicine and used to call cancer "ghosts in your blood", which they prescribed cocaine for. They also used leeches a lot. They would have been really helpful if they knew how to use medicine PROPERLY, though.
TL; DR, plague docs don't worship the plague, but they don't know how to use medicine
Yeah, plague doctors are cool. And the suits are cooler. UNTIL YOU REALIZE YOU CAN'T BREATHE IN THE DANG THING!
Ehh, it's easier to breathe in than the regular mask I wear for COVID. The problem is that my breath always fogs up the lenses.

. . . Yeah, I think everyone already knew that.
They had the weird beak-shaped masks because they thought that the plague was spread through bad smells (because disease smells bad), so they would put flowers and other good-smelling things in the mask, because they thought that it protected them.
People in the Middle Ages were stupid.

They just had low intelligence scores. Not stupid, though, as some probably had high wisdom. Also, the beak masks weren't just for holding good-smelling stuff, but also because they thought the plague was spread by birbs and thought that looking like a birb would help them not get infected.

That doesn't really help their case. Because now we know better sort of.

True. They just believed in different medicine that was definitely not as effective as what we use now. They thought sickness was caused because of an imbalance of the humors, four liquids in the body relating to the elements: Black bile (earth), yellow bile (fire), blood (water), and phlegm (air).

We know better, and have access to better knowledge, but instead choose to be stupid. There's a difference between not knowing real science (like plague doctors) and willful ignorance/disregard for science (far too many people during this pandemic).

They used stuff like leeches, superstition, and other stuff we now know to be unhealthy to try to heal people. Although, leech saliva has been known to have medical properties, so maybe they weren't all wrong.

Yep (by "not as effective", you mean "nearly completely useless and often extremely dangerous/deadly to the patient").
They also thought that the 4 elements had a 5th element(Æther), which is what they believed caused light to travel. They believed that if someone could use a Philosophers' Stone to control the elements, they would literally become God.

Well, now we're getting to stuff that my hour or five of researching plague docs plus one class in history that talked about them doesn't cover.
Yes! I knew I could vanquish you in my knowledge of Stupid Science (tm)
I like researching how idiotic people are/used to be. Did you know that the people of Ancient Greece knew that the Earth was a "sphere", but then the Catholic Church decided that it was flat and the Sun orbited it, and then we eventually re-proved/re-discovered that it was round? Or that the Roman Empire had technology as advanced as much of the technology of the 18th century AD?

It's nice to know that in the future we could be Idiotic People for future generations. :p

We probably will be, based on how people are acting during COVID...
