Hello, everyone. Name's ComradeSorcerer - been DMing for a couple years now, and been engaged with PbP on and off, but I figured I would give it another shot as a DM. Please know that this thread is recruiting for a Discord basedgame - do not apply if you do not have a Discord account or are not interested in playing on Discord.
The first adventure hook can be found below:
In the not-so-quiet city of Waterdeep, the Dock Ward district, within the famed Great Harbor, is facing an unsettling conundrum. Passerby report seeing strange lights beneath the waves after dark, and sailors that go under the water return with unnatural barnacles growing across their skin. Shipments of food and ore have been disappearing off the docking ports at night, and the seamen grow paranoid. Armed guards hired to protect crates and lockers have fled their posts, later raving of something "appearing inside their head". With the Waterdeep City Watch occupied in other Wards, and many guardsmen too superstitious to willingly investigate, Dockmaster Meikas - an old, wiry, gruff half-elf man - has sent out a call for sellswords to find and eliminate the cause of the disturbances.
Anyways, here are some things I'm looking for in players:
A party of 4-5 level 3 characters.
Quite active - about 3-5 posts a day (more encouraged), but they don't have to be particularly long, and I won't rigidly be enforcing any rules about activity unless it becomes a problem.
Interested in roleplaying - in my eyes, one of the huge advantages of Play by Post is that it allows for much more creativity and descriptiveness during play, making the experience almost akin to cooperatively writing a fantasy novel.
Somewhat familiar with D&D 5e as a system.
As to not make this post even longer, I will share other details in a group DM when the players have been selected. For character stats, rolling in this thread (4d6 drop the lowest), standard array, or point buy are all acceptable. The DnDBeyond character builder, Dicecloud, or an Avrae Google sheet are all fine for making your character, as long as they're shared with me. If you have any other preferences for character builders, clear it with me beforehand.
Application below:

Ability scores: 9125151110
Character Name: Krivrinn Kerrhylon
STR: 20 DEX: 12 INT: 11 CON: 16 WIS: 10 CHR: 16
Class: Paladin
Subclass: Oath of the Open Sea
Race: Dragonborn (copper)
Background: Pirate
Gender/Pronouns: He/Him
Short Backstory (1-2 paragraphs, you can give me more later): Krivrinn grew up a merchant sailor on his father's ship, and watched as the guilds stole his father's love for the sea with rules, tariffs, and taxes so restrictive they left honest people out of work.
The day they came to take his father's ship he swore an oath that he would ensure that the sea is for everyone. And so he became a pirate, taking from the guilds to show them that they did not own the seas. But his last crew were just as bad, taking from anyone with no regard for freedoms, becoming their own kind of oppression on the seas. And so he is back on shore, looking for some coin and a new crew.
Fun fact about your character (feel free to give more than one): Krivrinn gets a new tattoo after each journey. Usually it's something memorable or fun about the trip, a figurehead on another ship, a lightning bolt for a storm. Little things to help him remember the differences between each voyage.
"For character stats, rolling in this thread" Well I would be interested but I lack much understanding of DnDBeyond and how to do that. If a position is still open could you possibly tell me?

I've been looking to jump in to the world of PbP for a while now. I'm currently DMing a Faerun based game, but would love to have some time to play as well, but without the 4 hour blocks (outside of my own game) I can't make "real" games. PbP would be a great fit, and with my own game in the same world, this seems like it could be a good campaign for me to join. I don't have a character fully made up on D&D Beyond, as I don't have full access to some of the races. That said, if the OP/DM is able to share content for the campaign, I'd get one together pretty quick. I'd also be happy to make one elsewhere. I also have enough time that I can get on the forums at least 3-4 times a day, although the weekends might be a little more towards the lower end. I also have a work trip coming up where I'll have sporadic internet, but should be able to get 1-2 posts a day still.
EDIT to add - the game I'm DMing is played using Discord as the communications platform, so no problems there.
EDIT again - Just realised you said over Discord. That should be easier for me to play as well - I'm on Discord quite often with my own campaign chatting plus other servers, so 3-5+ posts per day should work quite well for me.

Background: Criminal (Hired Killer)
Gender/pronouns: They/He (both OK)
Ability scores: 1310971715
EDIT - oof, a 7? yeesh.
EDIT - working on transcribing to an Avrae sheet. STR: 7 / DEX: 19 / CON: 16 / INT: 12 / WIS: 17 / CHA: 17 Hm. After this edit, my rolls reset themselves. Didn't think that was supposed to happen. They were 17/17/16/16/12/7. Re-submitting the post has now flagged as manipulating dice rolls. I can assure you that I haven't.
Short backstory: Growing up on the streets with their brother Bucket, Two Cats learned to survive quickly. A surprisingly nimble duo, Bucket was the thief, and Two Cats the trouble ender. Their skills in attacking from the shadows, leaving no trace of who committed the crime, eventually got them in trouble after attempting a raid on a minor Faerunian noble. Both were publicly "hung" in front of a large crowd. Then Two Cats woke up. The noble revealed the hanging was ruse, and Two Cats now owed the noble a debt, to be repaid as the hired killer. Two Cats can only surmise that their brother was offered a similar deal, but has not seem them since that day. Here on out, Two Cats kills to order, in the hope that one day, the contract will be fulfilled and they will be allowed to go free.
Fun fact about the character: can so accurately mimic the sound of Two Cats, wanted posters have gone out looking for Tabaxis reported to commit the crimes.
Yes it did help. Thanks a lot. The stats might not be groundbreaking but eh I can work with it. Also should I post the full info on the char here or in a private message?

Sorry for the late reply but I figured I'd say something to clarify - while I don't have the sources available to share on D&D Beyond, I do have all of the physical source books, so we should be able to figure something out with your sheet later on.
I would also like to mention this game will be run as an "asynchronous" PbP game - we won't be playing during set sessions, but more similar to the forums here with posts going up throughout the day. I'm sure most of you assumed that, but it can't hurt to make sure.

Yeah, same here. I have physical copies, but don't really want to pay again for digital copies!

Character Name: Alyona Meliamne
Ability Scores: Ability scores: 171214161412
STR: DEX: INT: CON: WIS: CHR:
Class: Cleric
Subclass: Forge
Race: Tiefling
Background: City Watch (Investigator)
Gender/Pronouns: She/her
Short Backstory (1-2 paragraphs, you can give me more later): Alyona was born to two humans in a keep in Waterdeep. As a child, her father mysteriously disappeared which left the mother, unable to care for a tiefling child on her own, to give her up for adoption. After spending some time in a foster home, Alyona was adopted into an elven family, the patron of which was part of the city guard of Waterdeep. Through her adoptive father's influence, Alyona grew up learning to defend others, stand strong and brave, and have good values and morals. Spending time with the smithy of the guard, she learned her passion of forging as well as the discovery of Gond. During her teenage years into adulthood, Alyona spent a lot of time in the House of Inspired Hands, the house of worship for Gond in Waterdeep, all the while assisting the city guard who would commission her services to help with armor and weapons, namely armor.
Fun fact about your character (feel free to give more than one): Alyona's skin tone would be spring green which I believe is fairly rare for a tiefling.
Backstory: Wyatt is currently a ward of the state. He discovered the use of magic and because of its wildness it back fired killing the only person he's ever loved , his mother. Now he's sworn off using most magic and is running from the law as he is doing whatever it takes to get by. He's a a rather unhappy lad who lives by himself . He manages to evade capture by boarding a carriage and heading to Waterdeep where He's looking to make more money for himself.

Character Name : Zinhorn Kote (Zin)
Class : Bard, College of Lore
Race : Half Elf
Background : Urchin
Backstory :
Zinhorn grew up in the town of Luskan, a poor half elf who grew up on the streets. He initially tried his hand at stealing when needed, but found out quickly that his singing voice, his ear, and his talent with the viol gained him more coin than his slick fingers ever could. And he got to keep his fingers, which was a much better deal, he thought. He played for crowds at first down by the docks and then his fame and notoriety allowed him to play at a nicer tavern, One Eyed Jax. He could spin a tale and weave a song that was seemingly magical to its patrons. At times he would recite poetry in between his songs.
He was gaining in fame and feeling on top of the world until it all crashed down. He got a little too close with the barkeep Serena and she apparently had a most powerful suitor that wished to eliminate him from the equation. He fled Luskan and went south, to seek his fortune and hopefully escape the long, powerful arm of some knucklehead named... Jaraxle? Really? How could she pick him over me? He heads south to Waterdeep, anxious to leave Luskan behind so that he can keep his head squarely on his shoulders, where it should be. Little did he know that he had headed out of the frying pan and into the fire, after he learns that he has headed in the wrong direction to get away from trouble.
He is in between gigs and looking to save enough money to get out of town when he hears the call for sellswords down by the docks and some disturbance there. He heads there to meet up with Dockmaster Meikas and hopefully make a little coin. "Likely a simple job, in and out, right?"
Fun (?) fact : Zin once had to pay a penance to Lathander and perform a quest for healing after an encounter subsequent to one of his best performances of his life. Yep, there's a story there. He is a master with the viol, he likes the flute though as well. He always seems to be looking over his shoulder and keeps an eye on every entrance and exit to a room, but he is very charming.
Welp because of something weird im going to just do point buy cause it rerolled my stuff after i the post.
Character Name: Markus (Mark)
Str:10 Dex:17 Con:14 Int:10 Wis:15 Cha:8
Class: Drakewarden Ranger
Race: Wood Elf Background: Outlander Backstory: An orphan from an age not even he can remember, Markus chose his name himself, from one of the many books his "father" had. Markus was raised deep in the woods, behind a waterfall by a Gold Greatwyrm. But seeking adventure from a young age Markus constantly left the cave in search of adventure. He would even spy on a nearby wood elf village that saw him as nothing more than a monster. The reason behind this, is a massive scar that covers most of his face, ruining his Elvin features. Many times they would chase him away, and many times her would return. While spying on them he slowly learned how to fight, honing his skills more while hunting. Honing his skills he eventually became known as a tracker, helping those that got lost in the forest out. Yet despite the freedom he had, he still longed for more. One day, his "father" handed him an egg, and told him it was time to leave the forest, and learn of the world beyond it, and so he did. character sheet: Markus
Pronouns: They/Them
Fun Fact: He learned how to play the flute to play music for his "Father". Despite having no official teacher, his father, who had heard many songs played throughout his long life taught him the basics of how to play. Extra Fun Fact (cause I want to): Mark hides his face from the world, making it hard for people to determine his gender, even when he talks. To those who know and don't know him, gender is something he considers useless. He believes that it allows people to make unfair assumptions about people, so he doesn't use them.
Short Backstory (1-2 paragraphs, you can give me more later):
Sara shakes her head. Another underwater mission. Coincidence that the one aquatic elf, well half-elf, working for Force Grey keeps getting assigned these shit side jobs by the harbor? Sara'ele Deeptide longs to serve and defend, or perhaps counteract the true powers in Waterdeep. Instead, Vajra Safahr, the Blackstaff, had first sent her into the filthy water to inspect the undersides of the three ships, of all things, belonging to Zardoz Zord of the Sea Maidens Faire. Then to parley with a Zelifarn, a young bronze dragon that had been harmlessly swimming around a barnacle-covered underwater wreck looking for treasure. Well, perhaps that one made sense since Sara could not only swim well, but speak draconic fluently as her father had taught her.
Still, this was hardly the work she had envisioned when she signed up with Force Grey as a scout with some arcane flair to boot. She had pictured herself sneaking into mansions and spying on Waterdeep's rich and powerful who were up to no good, or scouting for those who were more worthy. But no, of course the blue-haired, blue-eyed, green-skinned aquatic elf (half-elf) has to be the one go down below the scum-lapped waves by the dock ward, searching for what likely were ghost stories this time. Posing as an adventurer looking for some quick coin. The Sending spell from the Blackstaff had been clear on that. Nothing for it but to prove herself yet again in what was apparently her type-cast role...
Fun fact about your character (feel free to give more than one):
- Sara'ele wears a simple bracelet of small white stones, which are actually sanded-down fragments of teeth from a rampaging Hunter Shark that she had helped her father, a full aquatic elf, defeat when she was still a teenager. She still touches it for good luck. - Sara has blue eyes, though at times one appears more aqua-green-tinted than the other. Strangely, which eye that is changes from day to day. - She once was able to sneak into Vajra's study at the top of Blackstaff Tower for a few minutes alone, just seeing if she could do it. There she glimpsed the spell-book belonging to the the Blackstaff herself and read it long enough to learn the Mage Hand cantrip, starting Sara on the path to becoming an Arcane Trickster. She's pretty sure Vajra must have found her out somehow, though. Perhaps that's why Sara keeps getting stuck with these bilge-worthy jobs.
Short Backstory (1-2 paragraphs, you can give me more later): Puddle is...not the best at much of anything. He took to the sea because there was nothing much else to be done. As for before this adventure, he wants to make something of himself. He believes the only way to do that is through something heroic. He expected that would happen on the open sea. But, all his voyages were uneventful. Curse his good luck. If only there was some sahaugin ambush, a pirate raid, a massive kraken that destroys the entire vessel leaving them stranded at sea on some flotsam. Well, there's always next time...
He was the doctor for his ship, a merchant vessel sailing out of Waterdeep. Puddle's crew were among those affected by the mysterious happenings around the port, so he went to investigate. Maybe this is his shot to finally become something more. A unique opportunity to use his person, the least remarkable thing about himself (as his family might see it), as an advantage.
Fun fact about your character (feel free to give more than one): He could be destined for greatness, but is generally quite clumsy.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Welp because of something weird im going to just do point buy cause it rerolled my stuff after i the post.
Character Name: Markus (Mark)
Str:10 Dex:17 Con:14 Int:10 Wis:15 Cha:8
Class: Drakewarden Ranger
Race: Wood Elf
Background: Outlander
Backstory:
An orphan from an age not even he can remember, Markus chose his name himself, from one of the many books his "father" had.

Class: Rogue
Subclass: Arcane Trickster
Race: Aquatic Half-Elf
Background:
Faction Agent
Gender/Pronouns: she/her
Short Backstory (1-2 paragraphs, you can give me more later):

Character Name: Puddle
STR: DEX: INT: CON: WIS: CHR:
Class: Cleric
Subclass: Twilight
Race: Genasi (Water)
Background: Sailor
Gender/Pronouns: He/Him
Short Backstory (1-2 paragraphs, you can give me more later): Puddle is...not the best at much of anything.
