Camouflaged as rock formations, ropers are aberrant ambushers that lurk in wait for smaller creatures. These bizarre subterranean hunters extend their rubbery tentacles to explore and prod their surroundings, often reaching beyond their fields of vision. Should they encounter prey, these limbs ensnare victims and drag them close to ropers’ toothy maws. If these tentacles are severed, ropers…

From a distance, will-o’-wisps look like lanterns bobbing in the dark. Through the windows of abandoned structures or around the bends of treacherous paths, these spirits tempt the curious into peril. Once their prey is vulnerable, will-o’-wisps feed on the life force of those they lay low. Roll on or choose a result from the Will-o’-Wisp Ambushes table to inspire how a will-o’-wisp imperils its…

North. Ahead through the gates (Into the City). South, then East. Bifrost to the walkway leading to the docking island (Area 3). South. Bifrost to the lightning barricade (Area 5).

Second Floor, Experimental Wing Shelves line the walls, crowded with preservation vessels containing specimens suspended in cloudy fluid. A high-backed chair stands behind a broad steel desk, its surface a chaos of open journals, anatomical sketches, and surgical diagrams. Doctor Belkin (Wormhost Surgeon *) spends his time here when not experimenting or performing surgeries. Dormant Larvae. A…

Southeast. Through the glowing portal in the Yggdrasil leaf to the Well of Urd (Area 4). Southwest. Through the glowing portal to the Jotunheim footprint (Area 2).

The following areas are keyed to the Memory's Rest Sanatorium (Second Floor) map.

The most incriminating evidence is a shrine, poorly concealed behind a curtain. As a Study action, a character can examine the shrine and make a DC 12 Intelligence (Investigation or Religion) check. On a success, the character recognizes it as dedicated to the Elemental Eye, believed to be linked to the Cult of Elemental Evil. Other evidence, a little less obvious, can be found as follows:…

If the lurker is discovered outside the window, it begins combat by using Dark Teleport to appear next to the character who discovered it. If it isn’t revealed in six attempts, the lurker attacks from the ceiling, surprising the characters. Once the lurker is destroyed, the wooden doll climbs onto the left bed and settles in comfortably before becoming inanimate as the soul fragment is put to…

Second Floor, Experimental Wing A heavy metal door conceals a haphazard workshop that reeks of antiseptic and charred flesh. Bloodied instruments and organ jars clutter every surface. At the center of the room, an operating table is shrouded by a stained linen sheet that is malformed by the mass beneath it. If Doctor Belkin (Wormhost Surgeon *) is present when the characters enter, he is…

Armor (ring mail), legendary You have a +3 bonus to AC while wearing this armor. This armor is leather armor with heavy rings sewn into it. The rings help reinforce the armor against blows from swords and axes. Ring mail is inferior to chain mail, and it's usually worn only by those who can't afford better armor.

Spells Prepared. You determine what spells you can prepare for each class individually, as if you were a single-classed member of that class. If you are a level 4 Ranger / level 3 Sorcerer, for example, you can prepare five level 1 Ranger spells, and you can prepare six Sorcerer spells of level 1 or 2 (as well as four Sorcerer cantrips). Each spell you prepare is associated with one of your…

Freylie’s mother, Mags, carves wooden toys, and her father, Pietr, specialises in painting them. In many years of working at the factory, Freylie’s parents have never had to work such long shifts. Freylie’s brother Toma is 18. He was looking after her until he went to visit the factory yesterday. The note Freylie received is in Mags’ handwriting, but the formal wording matches Mr Meville’s ads.…

Deeper into the Camp. Toward intact wooden buildings on the southern mound (Area 2). Toward the Northern Mound. Climb up to the ruined tower (Area 3). Back. Through the southern mound and eventually out (Approaching the Fortress).

You create the image of an object, a creature, or some other visible phenomenon that is no larger than a 20-foot Cube. The image appears at a spot that you can see within range and lasts for the duration. It seems real, including sounds, smells, and temperature appropriate to the thing depicted, but it can’t deal damage or cause conditions. If you are within range of the illusion, you can take a…
