The Upper Planes are the home of Celestials. The Lower Planes are the home of Fiends. The planes in between host their own unique denizens: for example, modrons are Constructs that inhabit Mechanus, and slaadi are Aberrations that thrive in Limbo. As with the Elemental Planes, one can imagine the perceptible part of the Outer Planes as a border region, while extensive spiritual regions lie beyond…

When you take the Attack action, you can replace one of your attacks with throwing a Net. Target a creature you can see within 15 feet of yourself. The target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw (DC 8 plus your Dexterity modifier and Proficiency Bonus) or have the Restrained condition until it escapes. The target succeeds automatically if it is Huge or larger. To escape, the target or a…

Spells Prepared. You determine what spells you can prepare for each class individually, as if you were a single-classed member of that class. If you are a level 4 Ranger / level 3 Sorcerer, for example, you can prepare five level 1 Ranger spells, and you can prepare six Sorcerer spells of level 1 or 2 (as well as four Sorcerer cantrips). Each spell you prepare is associated with one of your…

You came of age outdoors, far from settled lands. Your home was anywhere you chose to spread your bedroll. There are wonders in the wilderness— strange monsters, pristine forests and streams, overgrown ruins of great halls once trod by giants— and you learned to fend for yourself as you explored them. From time to time, you guided friendly nature priests who instructed you in the fundamentals of…

Other Outer City sites include the following. Balduran Looks out to Sea. The mysterious magical statue known as Balduran Looks out to Sea appeared at the edge of the Tumbledown neighborhood after Balduran disappeared for the last time. The twelve-foot-tall statue looks over the city and river to the west. The statue moves slightly each year, raising a spyglass or shifting its gaze slightly.…

The wide spiral staircase continues downward, leveling out long enough to pass by a single door leading east and a hallway leading west to a double door. The space between them has a rounded, cloudy window overlooking a large pool in a natural cavern. A dim orange glow emanates from far below and, with it, a sulfurous stench. The spiral stairs lead up to the fifth level (area E1) and down to…

The Outlands is the closest the Outer Planes come to being like a world on the Material Plane. Adventurers can travel easily from one gate-town to the next, making a tremendous variety of planar-themed adventures possible within the boundaries of the Outlands. Adventures in the Outlands often involve the conflicts between opposing planar influences. It’s much easier for a slaad to wreak havoc in…

The soft strumming of a harp draws the children ever deeper into the dark wood. As they reach a moonlit clearing, they see a beautiful maid dressed in a gown of starlight. She turns her soft gaze upon them at the sounds of their gasps. “Welcome, little ones. Be not afraid.” She beckons them forward with a long, lithe hand. “Step into the ring so we may dance and play.” An elfin man with pale blue…

Etharis is overrun with vermin, but you focus on the pests of the four-legged variety. In the cities these are generally rats and other rodents. In the country, the pests might come in the form of raccoons or other critters that steal food and destroy structures piece by piece. You’ve trained in the arts of getting pests away from people and coin away from clients. You may run an honest business,…

“Hey, Cliffgate, that’s me! Our family lived just outside the gate we’re named for. My folks worked in Cliffside Cemetery. Were buried there too. Later on, I moved them to a Lower City graveyard so I could visit more often. Hi, Mum. Hi, Dad.” Karlach Cliffgate The most dangerous district in Baldur’s Gate, the Outer City is the only place many travelers and citizens can afford to dwell. It’s…

“The sand creeps onto the decking in front of the tavern. A sign reading ‘The Corsair’s Haven’ shows an interlocking tankard and cutlass.” Tarus and Hera have hired the pub that Hera proposed in as the venue for their wedding ceremony. The regular security staff have been given the day off, as Hera didn’t think they’d be able to deal with any troublesome guests.

It begins in the eyes. A glistening veneer of tears that coagulate against the surface of the eye and begins to ooze. The white sclera dribbles in gelatinous rivulets down sagging cheeks. Its flesh is mottled. Browns, tans, greens, and purples color the unseemly visage. One side of the face twists downward in a cruel sneer, the other side, expressionless. Slack jawed, the mouth opens into a…

You touch an object throughout the spell’s casting. If the object is a magic item or some other magical object, you learn its properties and how to use them, whether it requires Attunement, and how many charges it has, if any. You learn whether any ongoing spells are affecting the item and what they are. If the item was created by a spell, you learn that spell’s name. If you instead touch a…
